thanks for the heads up.I already deleted it but i'll give it another try now. edit:framerate still disappointing and far from the old version. It's definitely not"smooth"on my Air 2.Just fire up Desert Fox or DoM if you want a comparison of what's REALLY smooth...gonna delete it again. But it takes only 430MB of space now.I'm sure it was about 800 before.Probably the App thinning kicked in...
What's different with the iPad Air 2s display soft/hardware from, I keep seeing people having big problems on it ever since os9 rolled around (and I realize you may or may not be able to answer). I can read PC specs on Wikipedia but it looks like an overall improvement. I was gonna wait for the next iPad Air to get released in march(?) to upgrade from my 3, but now I'm kind of nervous. Problem is I can't play most new games on the 3, and I'm worried about old favorites like this one not working, but it looks like it's either not play at all eventually (iPad's too old) or play with constant problems (iPad Air series). Has this been your experience with the air2, constant performance issues? It sucks to hear, cause the new update literally made the game as smooth as Moscow is for me.
To be honest,I don't know what you mean. That's the first time i heard from"general performance problems"of the Air (2).There was a bug on Air 2 regarding the apple scrollview (taking more CPU than necessary and interrupted audio)but that was back in iOS 8.2 and fixed in 8.3.I'm on iOS 9.1 now and pretty much everything i throw at it is playing very well and smooth. So,do you have that more or less solid 60fps in BotB like it is in DoM or Desert Fox?I can't count the frames but i still have the feeling BotB is running at arround 20fps maximum.Definitely never smooth.
Yea, sorry bout being vague, I had a feeling that was the case. I mean along the lines of in generally reading TA news and forums, a lot of the high profile games seem to have frame rate issues and game breaking bugs specifically on iPad Air 2s, a lot of people complaining about it, but I'm glad to hear that's not your experience. And you're right, it might have been fixed by 9. I don't own desert fox, but BoB and DtM "feel" (sorry, can't count the frames either lol) about the same in terms of not being choppy, but maybe it's cause I have a device that doesn't fully use 9. iDOS was giving a lot of folks problems after a compatibility update except for people with older hardware. Someone with more coding know how than me realized it was because of OS 9 features the older devices didn't use. Thanks for the reply though, I appreciate it. As I'm typing though,I'm thinking I'm gonna pick up desert fox, it's been gnawing at the back of my mind since the BoB update came out.
I just gave DoM and Desert Strike another shot and it's still silky smooth. What i love most about this games graphics is the supersmooth map scrolling .Like you push it a little in one direction, lift your finger then and it scrolls to the map boarder from alone. That's a totally different feeling from how it is now.Of course it doesn't make the game unplayable. But it does feel very cheap.Like a bad PC port (i assume that's exactly what it is now). They just screwed it up in my opinion and while i appreciate that they try to improve it,i have the feeling it will never be like before again
Appears that they have updated MP to include possibility of playing a game in "real time" in the sense that you do not need to close out of the game and then re-enter if your opponent is playing simultaneously. There still is no GameCenter based notifications but in the game I just started I did receive the email notification when it was my turn. Does seem to be a meaningful improvement on the MP system since the app was re-released by Slitherine so props to them for listening to the feedback that was received.
Thanks for the feedback. So by notifications they mean email right? Not native iOS notifications (even if not by GC).
Finally bought the bundle. Based on the posts here I'm getting the feeling I should bypass BotB and go with the next one Drive on Moscow. Is that correct or did any of the updates fix the problems posted? I'm ready to dive in but don't want to spend time on this one if I should just move onto the next. Thanks in advance!
Since you're my board game guru # would you suggest skip it & start with the second game of the three?
i haven't played any of these games for a while. I don't have any intention of installing BOTB any more given how bad it is now, but I'm up for playing DOM if anyone fancies a game? I'm friends with Curry on GC but not Mzinn, if you fancy playing send me an invite GC: Scarypharaoh
Yeah - Desert Fox and Drive on Moscow haven't (yet) been gimped by Slitherine. I'm hoping that they stay as their old builds after reading all the BotB heartache...
Mutton: I have a reputation? (in Fox Mulder's tone) Curry: Okay, you have a serious flu and it is not wise to stress yourself too much. Mutton: I used to play this a lot until the developer tries to "out-do" herself. Curry: Turns into a rather nasty mess Mutton: Moreover due to the nature of the game map design, to veteran players, even human player moves become very predictable and losing interest real quick. Curry: If you really want to get into the series, I would say "Desert Fox" title. Well, please read mine with a large gain of salt for I have some real bias for N. African campaign. Mutton: If you want more traditional hex-based wargames, try titles made by David Kershaw. The UI is clean, the game rules are simple to understand, runs on low-end devices, and you really can exercise blitzkrieg/air-land maneuver with them (depending on which book you read). Too bad it has no multiplayer of any sort and looks like he has stopped making more titles. Curry: I suggest you get some rest now. Bye.
I just picked Battle of the Bulge up today, and for the life of me, I cant find the supposed iap that iTunes App Store says it contains. It looks like they might be all contained in the 9.99 base game.
