Yeah, a single mission can take up to several hours, and there's (in the latest development build) over 210 of em. And that's just the core story, too. That's not even looking at skirmish or multiplayer modes, or the community downloads either.

Apparently :) the most time I've ever put into a game was 120 something hours on Elder Scrolls: Oblivion. Hope Wesnoth can beat it :) lol

Well, I think the number of hours really comes down to how much you want to play the game. With all of its content, downloadable content and random map generation, it opens it up to potentially many hours of game play.

Heh, I've put over 80 hours into the game Gemmed! from just replaying it. I continue to play it.

Thats if you JUST play the story, and once through only on normal mode. Some campaigns have plot-branches from choices too, so you'd have to at least load a save from before the branch if you wanted to see the other route.

And that's not even counting any of the downloadable stuff or multiplayer. There's more content here than anyone realistically get through, simply put. Thus, it's pretty much as long as you want it to be. So long as you're having fun, there's always new stuff to see.

If the iPhone version gets updates along with the PC one, you should see major additions every 3-6 months too. The current development build of the PC version adds yet another 23-mission campaign to the main plot arc.

Top of page 16! Time for another screenshot...

After probably 10 hours and multiple attempts, I finally beat a challenging level in the "Descent Into Darkness" campaign, the "Beginning of the Revenge" level.

The campaign story casts you in the role of a young mage who turns to the dark side after his father is killed. This level was particularly challenging, as you had to defeat two orc leaders and protect your hero as he moves to the far side of the map in just 36 turns.

There were many strategies involved in my eventual victory:

    - use the terrain: there is "thin ice" on the lake in the middle of the map, and you can trick enemy units to stand on the broken ice and they will fall in the water and die the next turn. I love how many Wesnoth maps have great scripted features like this...
    - use fast units like bats to annoy the enemy teams by capturing their villages. This keeps their income down, plus serves as a diversion so they all don't overwhelm your main force
    - grow your undead army. Once your leader is on the move, you can't recruit any more units. So make sure you have a sizable zombie force, that can turn enemies into more zombies when they are killed

I like playing as the undead because when zombies kill dwarves they are turned into cute little zombie dwarves, and when you kill mounted units they are turned into zombies riding zombie mounts! :p Unfortunately the undead don't have any healers, but several units do have drain attacks that replenish their health.

Anyways I am just so happy to finally beat this level after so many attempts, now work can continue on the port :D

In a later mission, I zombified a troll, and got a cute little pet zombie troll that I always keep next to my hero:

When I said there are 200+ unit types in the game, I wasn't kidding! :D

It's just a suggestion and I don't know if it's possible Kyle. But could you for future updates give people the option to buy and collect additional 'hero' characters to use in the the game ?

Although 200 is plenty to be going on with.

I'd imagine that in order to keep multiplatform play valid between the desktop and handheld versions, the iPhone port will just keep to the same content as the PC build.

That said, the PC build adds new content and features every couple of months, so you've got stuff to look forward to there. New campaigns, new units, new races, and yes - new heroes.
