A great feature in Wesnoth is the ability to view replays of completed games. You can relive your glorious victories, or maybe learn from your epic fails. Here is a video from one of my favorite games so far. The co-op multiplayer map "A New Land" makes great use of the Wesnoth scripting system to create some unique gameplay. Peasants can create farms, build villages, flood fields, and plant trees to change the landscape. The objective is to survive for 25 turns, and after a few crushing defeats, I finally found a strategy that worked. After managing to survive for 25 turns, you are given the option to continue playing to see if you can turn the tide of the battle. After a few failed attemps to raid the enemy keeps, and feeling the pain of losing some high-level units, I managed to regroup my my forces and clear out the map by turn 75. I probably spent 5+ hours on this map, and will likely try it again
I'm going to assume it's going to be a port but not a direct port there wont be any key commands like the debugging feature or a map editor will there? and will we receive push notifications on dlc updates?
I think your being very mean, showing off the gameplay when the release is still many many weeks away ! (yes i know i could play the PC version but it's not the same ! ) This game cannot come soon enough ! A couple of quick questions: Can you play multi player maps against the computer AI ? Is the game still looking like it will be released in September ?
There will be no key commands, debugging features, language translations or map editor in the iPhone version. No plans have been made for push notifications, but that may change in the future... Hehe sorry, but if you play the videos on you iPhone, you can imagine you're playing the game! The project is still on track, and the beta phase will start in a few weeks. I'll make sure that the active posters on this thread get invited... As for maps, you can't beat Wesnoth for content... There is a huge number of skirmish maps available, and each can be played against AI, local hot-seat, or online multiplayer. 42 maps are included with the game (as well as good random map generators), 20 downloadable map packs (5-20 maps in each pack) and 45 downloadable scenarios (special single-map scripted games like survival or RPG functionality)
This game looks amazing! Thanks for porting it over to the iphone. I'll be downloading the mac version after work today
Really nice surprise. I'm a big fan of Wesnoth so this is going to make a one happy camper. The only thing I hope is that you really add the offline multiplayer option (maybe using some fancy push notification system). All in all, this is going to be an instant buy for me.
I've been watching this thread since it started, and i used to play Wesnoth back on the computer. I AM EXCITED!!!! if you need another beta tester, i would be glad to help out...
Wow this looks awesome.. love the mac version. Used to spend hours playing this. I would love it if i got a chance to beta test this game. Gonna be awesome
I personally don't see any reason why this shouldn't cost a higher price. I think the developer is sharing the profits with the games designers, so to ensure both parties make enough money to encourage further development and updates, I'd be happy to pay it. When you see the amount of features and levels available, it will be more than worth it (I'm still hyped that you can even build moats etc against the enemy!) I still can't understand why this isn't hyped more ! if you add Battle for Wesnoth (Advance Wars Type game) to this threads title I'm sure it would get more interest. Although the more I find out about this game calling it an Advance Wars type game is doing it an injustice !
I'm very excited to see this. Anytime a proven "classic" or retro game gets ported to the iPhone, it's a huge win. Games like this are usually SO much better than iPhone-specific titles due to feature depth and just being thoroughly tested. Definitely keep us up to date on the progress of Wesnoth. Now, if I can just convince someone to port StarControl2/UrQuanMasters I'll be really happy
I tried, but I can't change the thread title now heheh. It needs to be featured on the touchArcade main page for it to get some hype... If you think this will be an awesome game, everyone click on the submit button at the very top site menu and tell the admins to feature it!
I've tried to do this but for some reason it's not doing anything. I'll keep trying, although I've no doubt TouchArcade will cover it when it's a little nearer to completion (and you possibly send them a preview copy of the game). There are other sites to consider getting in touch with as well, IGN would be a big one too. I suppose you don't want to get the hype machine going too soon, maybe start just before your about to submit it ? Keeping this forum thread going and drip feeding us with info and where you are up to is also helping. Slowly more people seem to be finding out and posting.
Sorry if this has been asked and I just missed it, but will the extra level packs come at an additional price, or are they just being packaged individually for the sake of space considerations?
The extra level packs are all user created content, and will be free to download from within the game.
