Kyle, it is starting to look like the standard that is understood is "Skirmish" means a quick game against the AI. You then can modify settings to meet your taste at that moment. So yes, I think "Skirmish" would be best understood. Munkie!
As long as the Wesnoth project gets proceeds, and this port is authorized, I'll pay up on day one. I asked for an iPhone port on the Wesnoth forums before the AppStore was even out. The game is brilliant, and the controls / gametype well suited.
wow missed that 200+mb, that's huge for iphone, the content must be rich.. any update for the releasing date?
Yes, of course this is the "official" iPhone port with support from the Wesnoth team and a good chunk of the proceeds going back to the project. The project is still under active development, with the latest stable version at 1.6.4 and development branch at 1.7.2, with new releases every month or so. Currently they are hosting a "google summer of code" -like summer art scholarship, in which students are creating new art for the game. The iPhone version will keep up to date with the improvements of the desktop versions, and remain compatible with the downloadable content and cross-platform multiplayer. There is so much content to this game, that it would be a shame to cut anything out just to port it to the iPhone... Plus tons of more downloadable campaigns and maps. If you haven't already tried the PC version, go ahead and pick it up for free from http://www.wesnoth.org
**** me, this will be the best game ever for iphone,i love the pc version, hope it wont lag though i'm a little worried about multiplayer too, MP wesnoth games literally take HOURS and i dont think iphone's battery could last that long
Is this on the lines on UniWar / viceversa ? EDIT : Darn... forgot to check tht quote reply in message...
Yes it is a turn based strategy game but with a fantasy rpg-type theme. See here for more information about the original game available for free for pcs, macs and other platforms.
finally Minigore is out, don't know when that game gonna release. just keep checking this thread 10 times a day... I must be crazy.
I must admit that this looks pretty nice, one of minority of "big games". I agree that iPhone is great for fast-to-pick-up casual games but big projects like this are always welcome by me. Even more when they have something to do with RPG on my list now...
The game will actually be fairly good with battery life, since the framerate and processor usage is far less than for a FPS for example. In addition to the live multiplayer, planned for the first update is an extra offline multiplayer mode, where you can take one turn and then wait for your opponent to move and be notified when it is your turn again...
My only concern is when is the release date, hopefully I don't need to wait till the end of summer @_@
There will be a brief beta period before the game is released, so you shouldn't have to wait too long!
Hey guys, thought this looked interesting so dl'd pc version, omg what a truely amazing game, been playing 5 hours a day only stopping as my gf shouts at me!! Can't wait for this on iPhone, and would love to part of any beta testing that should come around!! Thanks will
I downloaded the game too. First impressions are fantastic ! This has the potential to be a huge hit and will appeal to all those who love games like Advance Wars etc I'm really looking forward to this game ! My only concerns would be the screen size and the speed of the game. Is the YouTube Video the PC game running ? Do you have any video or photos of the game running on iphone ? Keep up the good work !
The video and screenshots I posted is the game running on the simulator. You can play the video on your iPhone to see that it fits perfectly. The speed on the phone will be about the same, of course this is a turn based game so framerate is not that much of a concern. Right now I am working on reducing the load times by pre-caching everything for the iPhone, since the user can't modify the configuration files on the device there is no need to keep it in xml form that has to be parsed...
