Battle for Wesnoth is exceptional I've never been a huge fan of this style of game. Enjoyed Warcraft 2 back in the day a bit though, never finished it. Definitely didn't enjoy turn based games however. Battle for Wesnoth is the game that changed all that, and made me appreciate the genre. I have since got into RPG's (played the original Diablo and Diablo II recently for the first time) Dungeon Hunter which is great but shallow, Underworlds which is deeper but the joystick sucks. Anyway, I wanted a game like Wesnoth on the iPhone since the launch of the AppStore, and I can't wait, and will buy this, on day 1. I just found Wesnoth so much better than things like Uniwar, or .. umm... can't remember it's name... an early iPhone turn based strategy game. Not strategic assault, something better... anyone remember what game it is?
Haha almost gave him too much credit But it is still difficult doing the port, and I believe that the price that he's placing on this game is very, very reasonable. Yup, it's good for everyone.
One thing I do mildly worry about - it looks like by the time the iPhone port is out, a new stable release of the PC version will be out, which will mean Kyle will have to update the game to keep that multiplatform online play working. Wonder how long it'll take to get each update in place?
After downloading and playing the computer version of the game, all i can say is..... wow. This game is amazing and absolutely huge! So my question is, is the ipod port a carbon copy? Because i find it hard to believe all the things on the pc version could fit into the ipod one!
Yes, fully intact, nothing cut except the editors (although you can still download new fan-made content from ingame). Confirmed many times.
Still getting ready for Beta - there are some niggling memory issues that you don't want in the iPhone version.
I'm afraid the news is quite bad. Kyle was eaten by a Grue. Really, the news is that the Beta should start any day now - hopefully within the week. Given the sheer size of Wesnoth and Kyle's meticulous attention to coding details, I wouldn't expect to see this released before Halloween. On the plus side that attention and effort should pay off - he's really been focusing hard on optimization so that this massive game runs well on the iPhone.
As much as I hate that I have to wait longer I'm glad to hear it when a dev is committed to delivering the best possible experience they can
He should have kept the light on I really wish people (not directed at you, Comassion) would stop with the "any news" junk every day. Personally, I'd rather think Kyle's busy on the port instead of wasting his time patrolling threads just so he can reply to satiate some people's impatient hunger. I'd love to see this game come out as much as the next guy, but I understand a great deal about what goes into developing such a beast, and I know a constant deluge of "is it done yet" type banter doesn't help any. I'm pretty sure Kyle will be excited enough that he won't be able to hold back when some major milestone has been met (unless that Grue gets him again, of course).
and don't forget he's expect a baby coming at the same time... he may be super busy... testing.... hum, not BfW beta... but practicing change diaper
I just want Kyle to have a Twitter and a Dev Blog that he updates every five minutes. Is that too much to ask?! Although really I wish he had a Dev Blog. I have nothing to stare at if I want news about the thing.
