"Cross-platform multiplayer" means that you can play live games against other users on PC, MAC, Linux, or iPhone. There is a game lobby where you can create a new game, browse through games to join, or even observe games in progress. On the desktop version there are always hundreds of players online, so it should be no problem to find a game to play. If you haven't already tried the PC version, you can download it for free at http://www.wesnoth.org
Thanks everyone for the baby congrats! My wife is 4 months pregnant now, the due date is end of February. I was so happy to find out that the baby is a girl, because I wanted to buy lots of cute dresses heheh
Oh, that's great! Are you already buying some clothes? I have two girls. It's sad when they no longer fit their cute dresses. But it's nice to go back over old photos and remember how much we liked seeing them in certain clothes. And they enjoy seeing themselves and hearing about our favorite outfits we had for them.
I don't have a daughter but older cousin used to dress her kids up as adults and its so cute...especially when they wore her heels ><
Hi everyone, I'm the lead developer of Battle for Wesnoth. I thought I'd come here to clarify a couple of things: (1) Kyle is doing a great job on the port, and we are very excited for it to come to fruition; (2) His work and distribution model is officially supported and endorsed by myself and the Wesnoth development team. We are very interested in ensuring that Wesnoth remains a piece of software that anyone can contribute to and modify. However we do not have a problem with someone charging to distribute Wesnoth through a certain medium -- especially for a nominal fee such as what Kyle will charge. Regards, David
Hi David, hopefully this collaboration between Kyle and yourself (and the rest of the team) will be beneficial to you both and generate further interest on both the PC and iPhone. I'm looking forward to playing your game (thanks to Kyle). Regards.
*curses thinking that I'd never get in the beta anyway* Hey Kyle, is it too late to get in the beta? I like the Dwarf Ulfserker because... the battles with an ulfserker are so decisive But yeah, I'm just hoping you're happy enough about the baby (congrats) that you'll let a late joiner in.
Hi all, while everyone is waiting (with baited breath) for Kyle to put the final touches to the beta. I thought we could keep this forum moving (thus helping to promote the game). As I have never played the game (just dabbled with the PC version waiting until the iPhone version is out). I just wonder if anyone has any tips/tactics that they would like to share ? Or what campaigns they recomend and why ?
Alright - here's one: Use your high level characters to help level your Level 0 or 1 characters. While its tempting to use the high level chars to just tank through tons of bad guys, if you do that, you won't have leveled up any lower level guys. Instead, use the powerful chars to knock the enemies down to a few hp and then finish them off with the low level friendlies. The XP will go to the low level ones and they'll quickly grow. If you can level up a badly wounded character, do it. They'll get all the benefits of the advanced character rank AND they'll get instantly healed. Use healers in a core position and surround them with other fighters in the immediately adjacent hexes. The healers will heal each friendly +4 or +8 each turn and will keep them in decent condition for sustained combat. Note that healing doesn't stack, so don't surround one badly hurt unit with 3 healers. It will only get the benefit of one. Instead, spread the healers around where they're needed. Protect them. Use terrain bonuses. Pay attention to day/night. It will make or break your battles. If you are good aligned, hit the enemy during the day and fade back at night. You can use a wounded enemy leader to provide constant fodder for training your troops. After you've conquered most everything, take your time with eliminating him. Take out most of his cash flow by capturing villages, but leave a few so he can constantly spawn low level troops. Pounce on them with your guys and get that XP. This is sort of underhanded but helps when you have a few guys that are just on the cusp of getting levelled. I don't like to do it, but it did help once or twice. Recalling a unit costs 20gp. Recruiting costs the value of the unit. Make a judgement call with level 1 units as to what is more cost effective. Guard loyal units. Why? They're free for upkeep and are somewhat rare! If you promote them as far as they'll possibly go, they'll STILL be free. There's TONS more tips - these were just a few off the top of my head.
Thanks Farnsworthiness, I'll definitely bare all that in mind. Once a character is dead, do they stay dead or can you resurrect them?
Indeed, so do take care to preserve your high level units. It's also okay to have some cannon fodder. You'd rather the enemy killed some low level unit of yours than a higher level one (and taking some casualties is pretty inevitable), so go ahead and use low level units to protect high level units. Fight in shifts. Have a force of sufficient size that you can pull back wounded units to heal, and send full-strength units to the front. Terrain is huge in this game, so do your best to create situations that take advantage of it, like forming a line of elves along a forest edge. Also, don't be afraid to explore the map! Many maps have unique events or effects triggers in different places, some of which can give a unit a powerful weapon or other nice bonus.
i played this online in a flash version or something. it was pretty good but seemed to lack something. im interested to see the iphone version
