I tried the pc version but i had no clue what to do. So i just deleted it. Maybe its because i didnt read the tutorial or something but, right when the first mission started, I had to go to some place but i had no where to go to.

You should probably have tried the tutorial. There is a lot of depth to this game so I think it would be hard to jump in like that without having a a little bit of a run through.

Isn't BfW open source? So you will have to release the source code? Even if you charged for the game, I believe 1 person could buy it, download the source, recompile, and upload as a free game?

That's a valid point, it should be clear what you have to do, particularly for the first campaign mission that you play. But it does have starting dialog text such as "we must escape to the northwest", it scrolls to the top left and flashes the signpost, and the mission objectives are "Move Konrad to the signpost in the northwest".

In addition to that, I can add a popup reminder to play through the tutorial if you try to start a campaign first. I can also add some more dialog text on turn 2 and 3 to remind you that you should be heading to the signpost in the northwest...

I personally found no problems with the tutorial, from first impressions of the PC game you do have to pay attention to the game and cannot expect to jump in and play straight away. However I also agree that the game needs to be accessible to as many people as possible.

My suggestion would be a 'mission status' page somewhere in the menus (if there isn't already one) that you could access to remind you of your objectives. The player could be informed of this as the game/level is loading.

On the Battle for Wesnoth website, there is a 'getting started' help page as well as a manual. Again Kyle, players could be directed to this page in the iphone version if they needed further help.

I have only briefly played the tutorial level and deliberately chosen not to play the PC version, so I can enjoy the experience of the Iphone version without comparing the two (although from the impression I get it will be practically 100% identical).

Issues/suggetions like this could be resolved in either the Beta or first update of the game. Although I assume the team of the PC version of the game has had suggestions and feedback over time and fine tuned the game.

At the very beginning of any scenario you are given your objective and if you check in the menu you are able to view the objectives again at anytime.

Thanks for the reply Kyle. Save system sounds perfect to me.
If I knew the days I'd be counting 'em.

I do have one request for this game. A feature I feel that should have been added a long time ago. In the multiplayer section where you choose what fraction you play just before you start there should be a 'back' button if something is needed to be edited real quick instead of hitting 'cancel' and it bringing you to the main menu

Also will this port include bluetooth support? (sorry if this has already been answered)

Hi, I thought this thread needed bumping up a bit to the front.

Hope everything is quiet due to you putting in the finishing touches to the game Kyle :D

Also just wondering if the game will have all the animations running when the game is idle, like the flags flapping, soldiers limbering up etc.

I was struggling how long it was going to be before this made it to a mobile platform. I must admit that I'm a bit shocked it never saw the light of day on the Pocket PC, though, since there is a Windows version. At any rate I'll be looking forward to giving this a go on the iPhone.

Hopefully those animation will still be there because I believe it's the little things that make the game so great.

However I do know that Kyle plans to cut languages out and reduce some of the music and sound effects.

Hopefully he can at least make them optional for those of us with 3GS's - there's waaaaay more memory and a somewhat faster processor in the newest model, so you could probably cram everything in there without losing any performance.

More games need to start offering 3GS modes that crank detail up or uncap framerates. It's a beast of a machine - easily equivalent to a decent-spec laptop.

That's a good point, I'll see how difficult it is to fix that.

I might look into adding bluetooth multiplayer support for a future update, if there is enough demand for it.

All the idle animations are still in there. I agree that it adds a lot to the charm of the game. Plus I like when the skeletons take off their heads and play with them! :)

I'm still working away, but the beta is delayed a bit until the game is more optimized. Shouldn't be long though...

    Kyle,

Did you also do an adventure game back about 10 years ago that was published? I cannot remember the name of the game, but your name rings a bell.

Also, I was doing my nightly check BFW update, hoping to see that you were submitting, or something crazy like that. But delayed... <sigh>

Yeah, I know, make it right and get it out how it should be.

    But still <le sigh>

    Munkie!

You might be thinking of Kyle's Quest (KQ) which you might be happy to know is available (at least the engine including a few various stories for it) for the iPhone. :)

I did a lot of games back in the day, but my claim to fame is "Kyle's Quest" for PalmOS. As SSquared mentioned, it is also now available for iPhone. More recently, I was the lead developer on Reign of Swords when I worked at Punch Entertainment. Now I'm on a permanent vacation in Vietnam! :D
