I paid $4 bucks for this and I've played tons way more than any other game even though the game is free on pc the effort to ut it in the iPhone is great. This game deserves all the glory and Kyle deserves big kudos for his work and continued support (free updates) for the game.

btw Kyle any iOS 4 features that you're working on ?

well i know that except it just seems like not enough people know about this amazing game and if you make it free for one day it would give it the attention it deserves and would easily launch it into the top 25

I bought advertising here on TA awhile ago, but there is such a long waiting list... Still about a month to go...

Yeah, I paid $4.99 for it, best $4.99 I've spent.

I've tried to pimp this game to as many people as possible, and it's got a permanent place in my sig. I don't understand why everyone who has an iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad doesn't have it by now consider it was 99 cents for so long.

If I were stranded on a desert island, this is the one game I'd want over all others.

Anyone try this on the new iPhone 4? I'm curious to hear about load times and how it looks overall

    Hi Kyle,

Any plans on adding the 4.0 multitasking functionality?

I am enjoying BfW so much! All my other TBSs and most other games are abandoned and forgotten. If there is going to be another update, I'd love to see a few more adjustments:

    1. Mini-map, when opened, taking the whole screen, so that hexes can be counted and villages are more visible

    2. No dimming of the screen during load times or AI turns

    3. Not sure if it is feasible, but still shorter loading times. They have become vastly better, of course, but one can dream of perfection...

Also, I am not quite certain, since it is not in the original game, but how about being able to see my zone of control? As an option perhaps? I know that gurus are able to estimate it at a glance, but I personally I am not quite there yet.

I'm pretty gutted I missed this when it was 59p - is there any chance of another sale in the near future?

Are there any planned updates? I've been away from TA for a good amount of the summer and just noticed there hasn't been much Battle for Wesnoth talk. I love this game and am always excited about the prospect of more updates.

To be honest, this is literally the only game I DON'T look forward to updates. Why? Well, let's see:

ETA until I finish the current 5 episodes: 1,134,634,324,123,345 years.

Besides, they've been hard at work with the TCG game called Shadow Era which has turned out to be great so far in the beta, so I don't think BfW has any updates in the works at all right now.

TCG like Magic the Gathering or something similar? I've never played one before but I've always wanted to try one out. If it's the same dev I'll have to look into that.

Shadow Era is definitely a TCG similar to MtG, I'm doing beta for the game and I love it so far. Definitely keep tabs with it in the Shadow Era thread in the Upcoming iPhone and iPod Touch forum, it's a really great game.

Any chance of this game getting retina support?

That and pinch zoom is probably the only thing left to fault this game =P

    Not for the actual graphics

Battle for Wesnoth on iphone is a port of the free desktop version done by a different developer.

New graphics would mean that the original team and the users that created some of the other campaigns (which include new enemies) would have to redo all their artwork.

Then you have to take into account that it would take away from the retro aesthetic that the original devs try so hard to achieve.

Pinch to zoom would be pretty difficult cause zooming out means the detail on the units gets smashed together and they would look terrible. New lower res unit art would have to be done which brings up the same problem as the higher res art

hmmm, but they could do it like on the comp in which the resolution is pixel to pixel, so more of the screen is displayed no?

Basically a native res mode kinda like how they did it for that recent Castlevania xbox arcade game.

Current UI elements and what not are a tad big imo, so a 'HD mode' for the iphone game would be nice =)

Just started getting back into this game :) (On the Mac, actually—but I have the iPhone and iPad versions too.)

Question: can two iPhone users be playing this against each other, then exit the app, and easily resume their game later? I had been wanting asynchronous multiplay with Push, but really, as long as it’s easy to resume later it doesn’t matter. I mainly play friends, so they can just IM or email me when they’re ready to resume.

Related question: if you both exit, but it’s your turn to play next, can you resume taking your turn without waiting for your opponent to be connected too? (Then they’d see your move when they do connect later?) That would be a kind of pseudo-asynchronous play.

I’d like to see that too—just for the play area, not the UI: ideally a toggle like Words With Friends, where you two-finger tap (or double-tap?) to toggle 1x vs. 2x. Sometimes you need to see clearly, sometimes you need an overview that’s still functional (unlike the mini-map) for moving units around.

Then no new art would be needed.

    Fast app switching

    Hi Kyle,

I've been playing a lot of War of Eustrath recently and my favorie feature was fast app switching. Any chance of supporting it in Wesnoth in a future update?

    Thank you,

    Metaldream

Is this really as great as everyone says it is and worth the high (for an AppStore game) price point or is there another (cheaper) game of this genre worth getting?
