I thought it was a bargain at the price I got it when it first went on sale. @macplash do you have it? I can’t remember if I’ve seen you on RPG pages or not. macplash Well-Known Member Apr 17, 2014 2,645 1,103 113 Male 3D artist Munich, Germany #3 macplash, Apr 16, 2020 @ste86uk no, I don't have it and I'm not planning to. It says in the description: "BATTLE - Use classic turn-based combat tactics!" which is something that goes beyond me. I don't play this kind of turn-based games. Never got into X-Com or anything similar. I'm fine with RTS or RPG, but turn-based is a no-go for me. I don't understand the genre or its mechanics, it has no appeal to me. ste86uk Well-Known Member May 9, 2012 6,774 1,003 113 #4 ste86uk, Apr 16, 2020 That sucks your missing out, this has to be the best RPG on iOS. But I understand everyone likes different things and tbs is something I do really like if it’s done well. I’m only like 7 and a half hours in and it says for a completionist maybe 60 hours of gameplay but averaging between that three story said nearly 30 hours and then going up to 40-50 with side quests etc. macplash Well-Known Member Apr 17, 2014 2,645 1,103 113 Male 3D artist Munich, Germany #5 macplash, Apr 16, 2020 @ste86uk interesting. I don't really remember playing any turn-based combat game. But again, as I already wrote, that might be because it has no appeal to me whatsoever. You know what? Let me check a gameplay video of this game... ste86uk Well-Known Member May 9, 2012 6,774 1,003 113 #6 ste86uk, Apr 16, 2020 What puts you off with them? The quest and exploration on the world map and in dungeons is all normal, the map is tap to move and exploration areas you control with a thumstick. The battles are turn based but it’s not overly complicated or anything like xcom can be. But at the same time it’s unlocking more and more options as I level up. macplash Well-Known Member Apr 17, 2014 2,645 1,103 113 Male 3D artist Munich, Germany #7 macplash, Apr 16, 2020 Last edited: Apr 16, 2020 @ste86uk WTF did I just watch?! As I have no experience with the genre I have no idea what's going on in the middle with all that icons and stuff, the burst bar and whatnot. I also watched some iOS gameplay (where the UI is different like those middle screen icons are in upper right corner and stuff), but Jesus F***** Christ, this game looks GORGEOUS! The exploration seems like a great fun. It has full-voice narration from what I've seen. And those battles are actually nothing like that stupid X-Com. Now I'm just pissed at myself for being prejudiced. INSTA-BOUGHT! ——- EDIT: this might come a bit too late to ask as I already bought it, but does the game crash a lot? I’m just reading reviews on US App Store and it has like 3.5 out of 5 stars with complaints about the constant crashes. Should I go for Steam version? It’s 30€ in comparison, but IDGAF, I just want to play the game immediately without any issues. So? ste86uk likes this. ste86uk Well-Known Member May 9, 2012 6,774 1,003 113 #8 ste86uk, Apr 16, 2020 @macplash the game had issues in the early release period but I haven’t had a single problem playing it. Surely they patched it all by now as I know the bugs when it released put me off. As for all the gauges and things the game will explain it all as you start off quite basic and gradually get more and more so it should be an easy learning curve. But basically that bar is the turn bar it shows who’s turn it’ll be and when so you can chose who to target to stop them getting a turn next or see where your attacks will be. When you use skills some take different amounts of time to use so can move your place down the turn list waiting to use the ability. I don’t want to say too much because I’ve probably already made it sound more complicated than it is. But hold down on the buttons for attacks and things it tells you what they do, the party menu is great when you start getting gear and more skills to see what they do while out of battle also. Lots of tabs and menus. macplash likes this. macplash Well-Known Member Apr 17, 2014 2,645 1,103 113 Male 3D artist Munich, Germany #9 macplash, Apr 16, 2020 Thanks for clarifying! I read some complaining about the crashes even in the latest version (1.0.16), but I guess I’m about to see for myself. Still keeping the Steam page open on my laptop though - in case of a crash during my first gameplay attempt. Because I hate it when apps has a tendency to crash. It’s too distracting for me. Anyway, wish me luck! I’m about to dive right in. ste86uk likes this. ste86uk Well-Known Member May 9, 2012 6,774 1,003 113 #10 ste86uk, Apr 16, 2020 @macplash good luck, hopefully you have no issues like me. From the logs it sounds more like it’s older devices struggling with memory regarding crashes. So I guess if yours is new and you close the multitasking all down it should be fine. It’s always good to try new things and things you never use to like again occasionally because our tastes change I find for myself anyway. Plus at its price and being such a premium game built for consoles it’s an amazing deal too and very cheap to try something of this quality. bx59 Well-Known Member Dec 2, 2016 238 116 43 #11 bx59, Apr 16, 2020 Thank you for this almost manipulative conversation gentlemen, here goes my 3 bucks. I mean, what different strategy would you choose? If you're not strong enough to kill the enemy with the first strike, you just need to defend yourself by using shields and mitigating the negative effects, healing yourself in between. What else is there to do? I don't see it as something bad. And I assume, in this particular case, you have different characters to play with and skills to use to mix things up, right? I hope you enjoy it though I am. @edbrannin Well you can say that about all tbs games really where a lot of battles are similar but you learn new attacks and abilities and get stronger. Enemies have different abilities and it’s always about tactics and assessing the situations and making decisions on what your best course of action is because it isn’t always just doing the same thing over and over again in each battle. But of course there’s some of that but I wouldn’t call it a game where you have to grind a lot or anything like that. bx59 likes this.
