I would like to have a "Light Version" or Demo for this game on iPad... I know there is one for PC, but I would like to see wether I like to play it on iPad or not. Would be very nice! THX!
Great to hear! I have been recommending BA to others but with the caveat that it's $20 so you REALLY have to like TBS strategy wargame! Having an iOS demo may win you some more converts
Wow, that are very good news! I just installed the PC demo and will give it try now. Especially the damage model concerning armoured vehicles/tanks and how fog of war is handled is very important for me. I play World of Tanks and there you have very detailed damage modifiers e.g. angle, used shells (HighExplosives or ArmourPenetrating), armour thickness and shell penetration etc... What goes for the fog of war, I will have a look now how you handle it Edit: Ok, FoW is cool. Units are stopped when they encounter an enemy unit. I have seen several games where this is not the case. Which is more or less a gamebreaker for me. What goes for the tank combat, the damage model is not so detailed (no destroyed modules, no tracking as it seems etc) but that is ok for me with this game. I only played half an hour, but overall I would "dare" to say, that it could be a very good one. Apart from BA I would like to see a non pay2win game on iOS where you can battle with (a) tank(s), fill your depot with new tanks, unlock/research new equipment, train your crews, trade tanks (and equipment) with other players. What goes for the battles, maybe there could be two modes, an action mode AND an turnbased, strategic one and/or a mixture of both. But ok, I am drifting off here
I've no problem with pricing models like this but... if im going to pay a premium price for a premium title I'd like to expect there to be gamecenter, leaderboards, achievements, etc. You know? I expect the game to fully utlize the device in my hands.
We looked at implementing Gamecenter for BA, but we didn't think that there would be enough interest to warrant the fairly large amount of work that it would take to add every achievement that exists in the game. I think that Gamecenter is more focused on meta achivements rather than the 4-5 per map that we have. Leaderboards are something that is double edged for us. Some people enjoy being competitive, others prefer just to play for fun, and so we haven't given MP scoring a high priority on our (pretty much endless!) list of improvements we are making or want to make. It's an interesting question though - for anyone following this gazillion post thread - how many people use Gamecenter and would like to see us making use of it? Cheers Pip
GC is absolutely not important for me and I do not like it very much. The style is ugly and looks like a cheap online casino. Apple should take a look at Steam, that is the way it should be done. One application for the whole thing with a friendslist which is a real one and shows you who is online of your friends right now. I do not care about the achievements, because they are only "cosmetic". In my opinion it is a good thing for players, who play mostly casual games. I prefer leaderboards which are on the servers of the dev of the game and serve a purpose like that players which achieve certain goals/places win something
The other problem with Gamecentre is that it will only work for the iOS version and any players on PC/Mac wont work and as people play from multiple devices you'd end up with a real mess of results with some going into game centre and some not depending on which platform you were on when you completed the battle. All in all I think it would be a very unsatisfactory experience. We'd really like our own version of game centre that is cross platform but its on the long wish list...
Full Ack! My wishlist for this game: +persistent Upgrades +Research +Choice where to aim at when attacking tanks. Example: Shoot the tracks so that it cannot move/run away, when it is in open field. Or shoot at the turret, when the enemy tank is surrounded and therefor cannot run away. +Choice which type of shell you use. HE or AP I do not know if some of these are implemented, but I only played the demo mission Maybe later more
Not sure those items make sense for BA. For example, persistent upgrades and research are more often seen in RTS games, not TBS games; choosing where to aim when targeting a unit would probably add more complexity without adding a lot to the overall game. As for using HE shells, I believe there are certain tanks where you get that option. Just my 2 cents. --DotComCTO
Thanks for the ideas . With regard to HE and AP, we make units use the appropriate ammo - so HE when targeting a truck, AP when shooting at a Tiger. We felt there would only really be edge cases where having a choice would make any sense. We looked at (and someone actually implemented a mod for) track hits etc - although I think they were a random outcome in combat on occasion. Cheers Pip
Guys Im thinking about getin this one but one question-how much graphics "suffered" compare to pc in this "translation"-new ipad? Thank you
We actually use the same data files on PC and iPad (other than some compression of the unit animation data, and the textures are in iPad format). There are no shadows on the iPad, but other than that it looks pretty much identical. Hope that helps! Cheers Pip
Just finished pc demo.Great game I think its perfectly suited for ipad. Gettin it. Thanks PipFromSlitherine
There are thousands of games ongoing at any one time. And a posted challenge is usually snapped up very quickly. The MP community is very active. We even have some people organising tournaments, including one modelling an ongoing campaign, with a game master actually building new maps to mirror the results and progress of the games that get played in the prior round. It's very very cool - check it out here: http://www.slitherine.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=87&t=36734 But, to cut a long story short, the MP system's ease of use, coupled with the ability to play at your own pace, means that it is very active. Cheers Pip
