Hmmm - I will take a look. To be honest there isn't really supposed to be any feedback from a hidden tile on whether you have suppressed a unit in it. So maybe I should remove the SFX... Cheers Pip
Quick question: In a PBEM game, is there a way to replay my opponent's moves? I can see them when the turn begins, but in this scenario, there are a lot of units moving, so it would be nice to be able to replay the turn so I can analyze what's going on. Thanks! --DotComCTO
No no, the sound actually makes a lot of sense! I mean, if you shoot at an enemy which you see and you can hear them making noise, then if you supress an enemy you can't see and by chance you hit it, you expect a voice cue as well and therefore probably also some visual cue... (for those with the wife asleep...) anyway it's a nice gameplay element in my opinion.
I added the sound effect to give a hint as to when units became suppressed. It doesn't tell you the tile they are on though so for any weapons such as mortars where you have an area effect you don't get exact info on who was suppressed. If we made the feedback more explicit I think it might be too helpful. It's a tricky thing to balance.
Perhaps only when you supress one tile then and leave aoe supression sound only? I tend to just drive a tank next to rocks now when i cant use sound. lol
I agree about the mortars etc but you could write "suppressed" in the same manner that you write "ambush" i.e. it doesn't reveal the exact tile and people with sound off are happy. Question: when you do hear them shout, does it mean they are indeed suppressed? At times I'm not too sure and I keep pounding the position, maybe needlessly (although I do get a "routed" message eventually which is good news!)
The difference is that with Ambush you know someone is there somewhere, with suppression you might be shooting at nothing. Cheers Pip
Just bought, really looking forward to playing this. Out of interest, what would people say is the best DLC?
I don't think you understood what I meant so I'll try to be clearer. For example: when you shoot a specific tile with a tank or infantry as suppressing fire, if you hear the shout, then you know you hit someone then you know the tile is occupied and writing above it "suppressed" could replace the sound. Still, as Iain explained, if you bombard an area, you don't necessarily hit the tile you were aiming for and the shout might come from a different tile, in that case writing "suppressed" is the same as "ambush" as it doesn't reveal the exact location and where the enemy soldiers are located. If you hit nothing then there would be no shout and so the "suppressed" label wouldn't be displayed. What I mean is, that the label "suppressed" in all these cases doesn't give you more information than the shout sound does. And then all people who's wife is asleep would rejoice! I'll also repeat my question, maybe someone knows for sure: when you fire blindly and try to suppress an area, when you do hear the enemy shout, does it mean they are indeed suppressed? At times I'm not too sure and I keep pounding the position, maybe needlessly.
Thanks for the tip. I shall do that... Then immediately write a scathing review in the app store that the app has grown in size and delete it in a fit of rage.
Hi all, I'm loving the game so far but struggling to win on many of the levels. Are there any walkthroughs of the campaigns ? (I can't seem to find any) Also is there any chance of anyone who knows the game inside and out able to produce some video walkthroughs on You Tube of some of the campaigns as this would be a great tutorial for myself and I'm sure many others new to the game. Many thanks
I think walkthroughs of the campaigns would be a pretty major undertaking, there is a lot of content there! I know there are threads on the Slitherine forums about specific missions which might be useful to you. The guys over there are pretty knowledgeable about the tactics for winning. Combined arms seems to be the one-line takeaway. I wish I could be more help myself, but I just make the game. My playing is of the "killed by his own men for incompetence" level... Cheers Pip
I fully understand, maybe not the 'whole' campaign but it would be great to see other players tactics on one or two levels on You Tube. Many thanks for the heads up regarding your forums, I will certainly head over there. Also Many thanks for making a great game.
I found this video to be excellent: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qGrtv4fSce4 This is part 1 of 3. It really helped me get started.
