Yes. I pay the same price even if the cover is unchanged. The price of a book is based on the perceived value of the product in relation to other alternatives, it's got nothing to do with how long ago the book was written or how much money the author has already made. Those factors just seem completely irrelevant. I don't see your one-man crusade for a different approach to pricing, going anywhere, because there's no market reason for the price of a product to depend on how many copies of some other version were sold in the past.
now that you mention it, for some reason i misconnected battle academy as being similar to their other games, which have been out for a long time... i'm barking at a non existant tree.... for some reason i thought battle academy was like say legion gold...which i shouldn't have, as the graphics alone should have made that connection unlikely, guess my brain was out of sync with my mouth... sorry, carry on.
Lol I've just paid 5 quid for Market Forces by Richard Morgan (one of the best novels ever) on iBooks even though I've had a dog-eared paperback copy knocking around for years (although it's new jacket is made of pixels).
Can you guys give us any more info like ETA and/or anything else like what type of content,etc.. AWESOME NEWS!! Man that game looks amazing! Any ETA on when you guys would like to submit after the beta? Pip and Iain, you guys are doing fantastic work and thank you for making me take gaming on my iPad seriously. I have spent HOURS playing Battle Academy multiplayer and have only played through part of the first campaign. Needless to say its been "trial by fire" but I am learning quick and what a great experience it's been! Did I mention how effin' pumped I am for HISTORY GREAT BATTLES MEDIEVAL??!! Could you guys start a thread in the "upcoming games" section so we can get the hype train rolling?!!
Hi. My first post about this a few days ago never made it past the moderator for some reason. Since others have since posted on the subject I'm not sure why. Anyway, first I want to congratulate the debs for bringing such a full featured strategy game to the iPad, and having success doing it! My point was to bring a perspective from someone who likes strategy games, but has never heard of this or similar types of titles. In other words, I didn't know war strategy games were a niche audience and I'm not part of it. One of the great things about iOS as a platform is that it can reach so many people who otherwise wouldn't buy your game (much less any game for that matter). I would never have even known this game existed if not for being an iPad user, for example. I know pricing is a very sensitive issue for the devs. Truthfully, I am sure I would enjoy this game, but I believe given the iOS marketplace, it is overpriced even for a premium title. There is a very well established 'sweet spot' for premium titles, and that is $10. I am positive this game and many others which sell for less are 'worth' more than that. Right now I can only think of one publisher (square enix) that seems to be successful at a higher price point. My only point is that the devs ARE missing out on a potentially large untapped market by going over the $10 level. If that is how they want to handle things, that's fine. I think the baldur's gate example is a good one; I for one am going to consider it (based on reviews/user feedback) because it won't be more than $10 - if it was higher, I wouldn't. There are just too many other quality titles out there to choose from at this point, plenty at the 5-10 dollar price points. I am pretty sure there are many people that feel that there are many non-niche gamers out there who feel the same way. I also think at 10 dollars this title would get more reviews. Regardless of how the devs decide to price this and future titles, I wish them the best of luck!
I think we're a couple of months away from the next expansion but we're being held up as we're doing a lot of tweaking on the base game for iPad. We should probably focus on producing more content but we can't help ourselves...
For anyone still on the fence we compiled a list of reviews. It's pretty awesome when you see it all on one place! PocketTactics 5 out of 5 - In price, content, and execution, Battle Academy is a proud game from another time. And worth every penny. DigitallyDownloaded.net 4.5 out of 5 Stars - Really, when you buy this game, youre buying into the excellent, competitive, online environment, and it looks like a healthy community at this stage. NoHighScores youd be hard pressed to find a richer, more satisfying turn-based wargame on the platform. TouchGen 4.5 out of 5 Stars - Battle Academy is a welcoming but challenging experience. StrategyPrime 4.5 out of 5 Stars - Probably one of the finest strategy games you can find on the iPad just about now, and definitely a must-have. FortressAT Battle Academy is a real game, a proper game Esquire - this is the best game weve played yet on the iPad. Plughead.net 82% - A proper wargame! On the iPad! PCDome.hu (Hungarian) the ideal tactical casual wargame for iPad. BoardGameGeek 3 of 4 Stars - Hands down this is the most impressive war game yet on the platform. In addition Battle Academy has made it onto the iPad Quality Index's Top 10 games list of April 2012!
Iain, that's great to see you guys getting the well deserved recognition for Battle Academy and hopefully it will bring more attention and sales to the "non-PC" crowd of iPad gamers because this truly is the BEST game out right now. People need to realize how much value they are getting for a full PC game on their iPad with all the single-player content, great AI and computer model as well as the cross-platform play. I also appreciate the fact that you guys are focusing on making the base game better while trying to balance developing new content.... OK- I will shut up about "History Great Battles Medieval" after this but I can't help but notice that it seems that you guys are avoiding addressing the previous posts about that game. I was just hoping you guys could give us an ETA for the beta and/or when you would like to submit to Apple. On a side note I had no idea that it was available for consoles so I am going to pick up an XBOX copy today...
I've never been into turn based games that much and never really played war games, but was very interested in this game from the great reviews. I was hoping to find something more engaging and thoughtful than most the games I have, something I could sink my teeth into whole drinking beer. Guess what? It did exactly what I wanted it too. Completely won me over. Finished the first campaign, just started the second. Since Im not a "Grognard"(am I saying it right?), it took some restarts. It feels like a real victory finishing a mission, and each one occupys me for what seems like hours. I tip my hat to you sirs, thank you for making me a fan. Can't wait to try out the multiplayer!
For GBM - check the Touch Arcade upcoming games section. I did exactly what was suggested! We just had a user review come in. He downloaded the game which is about 350MB, maybe 500MB when uncompressed. He must then have downloaded every single user created map which adds about 1.5 GB "Avoid. Instant buy, instant delete. - The full game, fully downloaded with all the scenarios, took up to close to 2GB of my 16GB iPad 2.Developer, I did not buy an iPad 2 just to play your game. Please reduce your installed file sizes.B of data. He then wrote a review" It's the first time I've heard of anyone complaining a game gave out too much free content! I am at a loss for words as to what to say to this type of comment!
LMAO wow... Guess he has nothing else to do. There a 2 groups of people that are always bitching.. 1. Wow.. the file is huge, I have no room, can you make it smaller.. (And... if it's smaller, then they complain, why there is no content etc..) (even it's > 100 Mb, they are already complaining) 2. The file is small, so it's probably a piece of crap. You can never win with those people.. They just should have bought a bigger Ipad.. I wish for those people, that the games are all going to be around 1-2 Gb. (yay.. Upcoming baldurs gate, might be even 3-5 gb hahahahaha) Can't wait for that one..
I wouldn't mind if he hadn't gone out of his way to download the additional GB's of free user content that you don't need to play the game....
Welcome to ios and all of its joy. I however, love this game and bought the 64 gb just for gems like this.
It would really be useful if there was some visual way to tell when the supress is hitting troops besides just the cryout sound for the times I am playing with the sound muted so as not to bug the wife, right now without sound on you can't tell if the supress hit anyone or not.
But there isn't always someone there. If there were any feedback then you would only need one shot to know if someone was or wasn't there. IIRC you will always do some suppression, you just don't know how much. Are you saying it plays the suppressed SFX even though it doesn't show the text - or something else? Cheers Pip
I seem to have to wait for the specific moan to reveal my troops or they get destroyed. without sound there is no visual queue of when sufficient suppresion has occured. One shot doesnt do it. P.S. No sounds are a tactic designed to prevent suppression from the wife unit.
Why not play with headphones plugged in?, that way no suppression fire from the wife unit and everyone's happy.
Because with headphones, you can't create the illusion that you are listening to your wife when she's talking to you.
