Here is a vid of online multiplayer. I am only testing two devices. Its Macbook Pro vs iPhone 5c. The vid is from the iPhone. The video is unedited and roughly 3 minutes long and plays a bit slow. Its challenging switching between phone and a keyboard and mouse. Also, I kept getting slaughtered in my own game so I finally wised up and spawned in and equipped my characters with Terminator like weapons and armor. You can see me panic for a second as the zombies close in as I fumble with my inventory. It actually works pretty good and has a few glitches. I rented a dedicated server and uploaded the network files. Its really easy to setup. And I'll explain later. You won't have to rent a dedicated server to play unless you want to setup your own 24 hour server. I am very excited about the performance. Its pretty hard to do and they're aren't any games like this on the app store. Let me know your suggestions and thoughts.
Wait so I can use my iphone and mac to play multiplayer with friends??? So 1 friend uses the mac and the other uses iphone??? That would be awesome
Interface/HUD is terrible. It's far to close to the center of the screen and takes far too much space. Why is that? Please move it closer to the edge on each side.
Finally!! I have been literally dying for a multiplayer zombie/apocalypse style game... The only games with a similar formula were utter crap (example: cod black ops zombies multiplayer) I can't wait! Like SirHanet said, if there's a beta I would love to help out! I'm super excited to get a game like this released on IOS
Yes. Thanks!!! Your right. It is terrible. You should have seen it before. It's like that because I need the buttons to press for testing and need to see the indicators to make sure everything is working across all devices. If you notice in the vid, I broke the shelter indicator (house looking button at the top right) somewhere because that stat should be decreasing when it rains. And it doesn't. I didn't think I was going to get online multiplayer working for when I launch. But, as you can see it works pretty decent. In my excitement, I just made a video of where I where was at the time. There is no doubt, the game needs much more polish. Thanks for the suggestions. And keep them coming!
Wow this game looks amazing!!! Can't wait to get it, but just 2 FAQ. Any Release Month estimate, and If there is a beta, I would love to be a part of it.
Excuse me if this has been already addressed but the graphics need ton of improvement, foilage, lightning and lot a of other things.I get that graphics don't make or break a game but in a survival game immersion is very important and graphics are absolutely important,I'm sure you guys are working hard on them.
I must admit I've only just noticed this thread and should have posted on it before. Anyway, I can only wholeheartedly agree and reiterate it. I've never seen anything but honesty and approachability from this dev. From previous experience he always listen to criticisms and works to improve the product. But enough fanboyism. The game looks great idea-wise and I have plenty of confidence that it will improve visually, especially considering it's one of the later priorities after game mechanics. I've always wanted a Day-Z styled game on iOS so I'll be watching this one like a hawk
Honestly, the IOS has absolutely zero multiplayer survival/zombie games right now that are even halfway playable and 3D. In my opinion, if we can get a multiplayer survival game that has good gameplay (which Barren roads has a lot of potential for) graphics aren't as important to me, and can always be improved on in the future
I'm not certain about the release date yet. I rather not give a release month, and have not polished it and disappoint. I haven't thought about a beta yet either. But, I have got it in the hands of some publishers and a few other guys on here I really like. I can add that. At this point, you can see from the vid, its the same model who can only change some clothes and armor. I'll do my best. I had to make some sacrifices to be able to get what I got, particularly on mobile devices. Foliage and lighting are huge framerate killers. I think multiplayer games are super fun. And I hope that will allow players to forgive the graphics a bit. Right now, I force resolution and graphic settings, dependent on the device. Otherwise, the game won't even start on 512MB devices. But, I'll eventually allow players to choose the settings they want. I prefer performance myself. Thanks Bad_trip! Its a matter of when, not if. And your correct. Graphics will get better as devices evolve. Thanks! I'm pretty knowledgeable about iOS devices. I'll be the first to tell you what I can and can't do.
Voncarp, you are an awesome developer! It's great to see a developer personally communicating with the community rather than a social media / community manager type person. I'm honestly more excited for Barren Roads than any other right now. I've been wanting a multiplayer coop game for ever! do you think version one will be released this year?
