On iPad 3 it's not perfect. It's kinda low res compared with Steam version, long loading screens and framerate issues sometimes. But no serious problems like crashes.

It will eventually. Windows Phone too. But how soon I don't know. http://t.joystiq.com/all/2014-06-25-the-banner-saga-coming-to-ipad-android-windows-tablets-this-su

Game runs great on iPhone 5s, no hiccups or slow downs. Text is readable, only one minor problem as mentioned before, some text bubbles block your ability to select tiles bit if you zoom or reposition screen, it fixes the problem.

If you like king of dragon pass, you will love this, same style of story telling and choose your own adventure mixed with combat tactics and strategy.

And I thought this was a weak week :)

Does anyone have any idea of how many hours of gameplay this provides?

Wow, just wow. Speechless after seeing the first tutorial battle, the art and animation. I am sure it will only get better from here. Thank you devs for this!

Dunno mate but I played it for 3 hours last night on a flight and it feels like I'm still in the very early stages (like the bit on a TV show before the episode actually starts lol). It's gonna be a loooong game.

    P.s it's amazing

P.p.s if like me you normally play games on mute, don't. There is lots of voice over / narration with no subtitles

yeap, doubletapping in Card Dungeon makes the cards readable, but general story / dungeon descriptions and the menu/help are too small and untappable.

But from what people say here, Banner Saga seems to have much more readable fonts.

This is a kinda depressing approach for a developer to take to iPhone ports, especially when the viability of a port has been called into question in the first place (Stoic questioned if Banner Saga would work on such a small screen a few years back), and when the game in question represent this kind of pricing experiment.

With an interface like this, Stoic has increased the risk that the game will not be well received, and that it might not sell well at the 9.99 price point, and thus skew the results of the pricing experiment. Which in turn might influence both their and other devs’ future decision whether or not to support iOS and the iPhone screen in particular (in particular if those developers only look at sales numbers).

It is hard to arrange a more probable self-fulfilling prophecy than to question how feasible a port is, and then release the port with a non-optimized PC interface. I'm curious if the developers themselves found the port comfortable to play, and what their reasoning behind the interface is.

Compared to excellent small-screen remakes of PC titles in general, such as KOTOR, Bastion, Skulls of the Shogun, XCOM (partially; I still find the interface clumsy), as well as native iOS titles who prove that TBS work excellently on iPhones (the Ravenmark Saga, Ace Patrol: Pacific Skies, Naval Tactics, Warhammer Quest, Breach & Clear, the War Game series, Mangomobile games, and many more. Turn-based strategy games in particular might one of the easiest genres to implement interface-wise, in my experience), the Banner Sagas, Star Realms and Baldur’s Gates of the iOS world might represent a serious road bump, or even a step backwards, for the perception of the platform as a home for any sort of game.

Has somebody played this game on the ipad 4,since even the ipad 3 doesn't seem strong enough to really enjoy the game.

I don't believe this to be true, iphone works great on this game. I am having no trouble seeing any text or graphics and I have old/bad eyes

Perhaps there is a misunderstanding somewhere in the chain of communication :) I'm not referring to readability or visibility (though there have indeed been reports in this thread of players who find the text too small for comfort).

I'm playing on an ipad 4, and it's very playable (not perfect, it's a bit slow sometimes, and loading times can be long). In general, it works like a charm, and it's an incredibly good game. The more i play, the more i appreciate it. It's not so easy, i feel i'm a real noob, but the story is well written, and strategy is challenging a lot.

There is always going to be disagreement about what constitutes too small since everyone has different eyes. There have been several other games made available on iPhone which other people were really happy about, but which I thought were way too small on a phone to be enjoyable, including KOTOR, XCOM Enemy Unknown, and Warhammer Quest. Especially since the iPhone 6+'s release, I suspect this will get even more common, since apps which developers previously would have thought wouldn't work on an iPhone will now work reasonably well on an iPhone 6+, so they'll make them universal, even though they're hard to use on smaller iPhones.

Both KOTOR and Warhammer Quest feature interfaces optimized for the iPhone. Even Firaxis, for its occasionally surprisingly clumsy interface work, did not simply port the PC GUI over to the mobile version of XCOM.

This is what makes the example of Banner Saga (and the recently ported Baldur's Gate and Star Realms) so notable; the developers simply ported the desktop/tablet interface, with no concessions made for the smaller format.

So yes, disagreement there will be plenty. But there is little doubt that optimized iPhone interfaces will generally be more comfortable to use than minimized desktop GUIs, and that less disagreement will arise as a result.

(And the assumption that a game with an optimized and comfortable interface will review better and sell in larger numbers doesn't seem like a far stretch to me. Which leads back to my initial point, that Stoic might have affected their own pricing experiment by porting the interface directly. And that this, in turn, might dissuade both them and other devs from porting to the platform in the future. Though I must say that the game in general is so extremely good, and the port so supremely well done in all other regards, that I happily find this unlikely.)

How's it graphical on the ipad 4?

I'm just not sold on using this on the 5s - although appreciate it will be superior (with processing) than the ipad 4.

The only thing that bothers me in this game until now is having to tap in the bottom middle of the screen to advance text. It’s kind of awkward when playing on ipad. I wish it could be anywhere on the screen.

Hmm,had my eye on this when it was out on steam for PC ... but a lot of the user reviews said there wasn't much to the gameplay, and there was long sections where you were a mere viewer ...

For my preferences Warhammer Quest actually didn't change enough in the iPhone port. The text is often really tiny, with no way to zoom in on it. KOTOR was a little better I think, but I know I still decided after trying it for a few minutes that it wasn't much fun trying to play it on a phone. Both games seemed clearly to be designed for larger screens, and it seemed like somewhat of a gimmick to put them on phone. I realize though that others do actually find it fun to play them on a phone, so obviously my view is not universal. It does sound like this iPhone port might be a little more buggy, but several people on this forum have already said they do like playing it on the iPhone, so it seems like it might just be the same situation as with WHQ and KOTOR.

This game is awesome! Wasn't the happiest about this week but card dungeon was cool and then this monstrosity came out. This game is awesome. I wish I had pledged on kickstarter! I pledge 300 to the guy making tiny trek but never have I even received anything for doing it...... Just ignored and brushed off. I think I'm done with kickstarter. Almost every pledge ripped me off. Tiny trek was the worst cause I was in constant contact til I sent the dough... Ah wells. Live and learn. Lol sorry about the derailment there. Back the banner saga.

This is a pretty good game so far and by pretty good I mean really really good. Lol.

Was going to get this on my Mac. For anyone who may have played both should I stick with getting the Mac version when there is an eventually price drop or get this version instead?
