Advice: play it on your PC/Mac instead. A game as good as Baldur's Gate deserves to be experienced properly.
Can't agree; the ipad experience is fine. The tutorial for BG:EE is poor because of the problem selecting the particular character, but in the game proper it's fine.
It might be 'fine' as in playable, but if you are coming to the game as a new player who has never played BG2 before, I cannot think of a single advantage of playing it on the iPad rather than PC/Mac. The usual advantage of the iPad is portability, but that doesn't make much sense for a game like BG2 which is geared towards long, intense playing sessions rather than 10 minutes here and there on the bus or in bed. The iPad port might be good for people who have already played it before, but if someone is coming to it from scratch them imo it makes sense to experience the game in the best way possible.
I understand where you are coming from; gamers from the BG PC era definitely had/have a longer attention span than many these days. I have played BG:EE on the iPad for many hours without a break, and will do with BG:EE2. It's not a game for a 5 minute fix. But it is a game for a long haul flight, more convenient on the iPad than a laptop, with a much longer time between recharges. Plus the portability We may have a different view on this, but we both agree they are great games.
if you guys are talking about UX on iPad, well I admit it is a little pale before "bigger screens" but definitely it does not forbid you very much from experience the contents. This comes to how much I appreciate the port of KotoR and XCOM which are pretty smooth from the very start. (Please do not argue on the graphics details)
I couldn't get into BG1 when it came out earlier this year and was on the fence about getting BG2. But I'm finding it a lot easier to get into, really loving the game this time around.
Nobe / lazy dude So I'm started but can't figure out how to see hidden doors, chests, loot etc. I'm trying the traps icon but nothing seems to be highlighted? Not sure how this works except to poke at everything in every room.. Any tips would be great
If you look at the page he linked there is a hot space down near the bottom (it says Baldurs Gat Enhanced Edition) to touch to take you to the Baldirs Gate 1 manuals... Just follow the links at the bottom of the page and then the bottom of the next page will have the link for BGEE manuals...
Tap and hold the 3rd icon from the bottom on the RHS to see loot etc. Select the thief and the 5th icon from the left on the bottom toolbar to deetct traps. Once detected click the eye mask to clear trap, one at a time. The thief can be set to detect traps when not in combat, at least she could in BG:EE1
I actually did not unfortunately. Sent another pm but plz don't trouble yourself on my account. Checked inbox and junk box, will look into it further tomorrow. Appreciate the effort and gesture regardless
For what it's worth, to provide a more balanced and fair assessment of the initial stages, BG2's initial dungeon is very tedious and unexciting compared to the whole game in general, so much so that there are mods that people use to completely bypass it. Now, once you get past the initial dungeon though, a HUGE world opens up. BG2 is also better than BG1 in that your characters will eventually reach near-godlike levels towards the end (which is why it is so much fun), and godlike levels in TOB; but the game is balanced enough that the enemies will still provide more than a challenge (something that cannot be said of The Elder Scrolls series).
The official manuals for the enhanced edition might be better for everyone. Beamdog have a link on their homepage, and I do believe there's a link to these from inside the game somewhere too. BG:EE Manual BG2:EE Manual
Those games are good, but they're not RPG's. If anything they're Action RPG's. A very different genre.
For those struggling with importing Characters from BG:EE, here's a comprehensive guide: First, open BG:EE. Load your latest save. Go to the Character Screen of your main Char. Select Export. Select the relevant Character. You can rename the file, but it's not necessary. Press "Done" and the following screen appears: Choose "Open in BG2:EE" That's it. You'll be transported to BG2:EE. Start a new game and you'll be able to choose your exported Character: Remember to shut down BG:EE, as you don't want that to use all your memory while starting a new game in BG2:EE.
Those are in the selection I have, plus I think I linked to them as well. There maybe a link in the PC/Mac versions, but I can't find one in the ipad version.
