It's a safe bet you're confusing the original Baldur's Gate with the comparatively short action-RPG spinoff Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance, considering that there's no way any non-speedrun of the first game would clock in anywhere near a mere 10-12 hours. As others in this thread have noted, players are looking at multiple tens of hours for the first game alone, and that's without even taking the Sword Coast expansion and new EE content into account. You're correct in that BG2 is considerably longer and more involved, but the first game is still pretty hefty on its own.
I've got the game on PC so I can probably answer these : So any early impressions? Can't say for iPad, but if you've played BG:EE, you'll feel at home. The interface is better than in BG:EE, and a new option has been added to help you pick up loot much more easier without having to click on every loot pile on the ground. IAPs? : Same as BG:EE, new NPCs & their quests are available through IAP. There are 3 IAPs characters : Rasaad (Monk), Dorn (Blackguard) and Hexxat (Thief) Neera (Wild mage) is available by default. (I could be mistaken, it could be rasaad that's the default, since IAP are directly integrated in the base game when you buy on PC) New content/Class Kits? : Same new kits as BG:EE. New content is tied to new NPCs, each new NPC bought basically grants you 3-4 new zones to visit (2-3 SoA, 1 ToB) and some new items.
It is in the file sharing box, but when i exported my BG1 character it didn't show up in itunes. had to email to myself. I tried dragging into itunes BG2 Documents but no joy
While BG2 continues the plot of BG1, it's also a much better game and RPG. I really liked BG1 back in its day, but in hind sight, if you don't have a lot of free time (or money), I don't think that skipping BG1 to go directly to BG2 is much of a mistake. It's a much better and less linear game, with interactive and interesting companions (in 1 they were more or less with a backstory and a few audio lines), much better plot and an insane amount of side quests and areas to explore. Its pretty exciting that games of this complexity level and length have reached the iPad.
Just saw this now... I could break my budget for this, but i shall prevail! Resist le temptation! I'll get this with my Feb budget on feb1.
Hell no I don't want them anywhere near torment... unless they add ZERO new content and just modernize the engine / fix the bugs. Torment has such a quality writing that they'll never, ever, ever match the original quality from what I've seen them produce for BG:EE/BG2:EE.
Wow, that's makes the IAP worth it then. Don't know if I'll get around to doing an evil run through though so I might as well skip Hexxat and Dorn. Any idea if I'll miss much doing so?
Oh please let them bring Planescape over next! I missed the kick starter for the sequel Brian Fargo is heading but I will be all over the new Torment when it comes out on various platforms! Check it out if you didn't know! Torment: Tides of Numenara is the name!
I want this so hard, but I haven't finished the first. I'll clear some backlog (and space) before I get it.
bg2 hi all - i heard that this release also includes a big "final" fix to the BG1 (which I have waited to start) - is this true and thus now a great time to start BG1? thanks
