That will happen if your journey is broken by a random encounter in which a short battle takes place. Check on the map to see where you are. That area is a "hostile area" and you will have to leave before being able to save.
Patient: "Hey, Doc, it hurts when I do THIS..." Doctor: " Don't do THAT." Your suggestion is not a solution; it's a workaround, and about as helpful as the Doctor in the above joke.
It seems like you've missed the writer's point. The author didn't say that he personally thinks that games like BG should be left in the past, and it seemed clear the author did like the game. What he was saying, is that games like BG have been left in the past, because they're less "approachable" than modern games. That's just a statement of fact, or at least what the author sees as a fact, not an opinion about how things should be. It definitely is true that games like BG aren't being made anymore for the most part, and I think the reason probably is what the author said. If you go back and read past that sentence you stopped at, you'll see that virtually all of the author's complaints are about the experience of playing the game on a touch screen, not about the game itself.
Sorry, I wasn't clear. I am in a dungeon, fighting, looting, etc., when suddenly, I can't save or rest, even if I travel to a different floor, or to a tavern in town. It only resets when I leave the zone.
Haven't encountered that yet. Invisible enemy? Have you tried pause and look to see if there is a red circle? I reckon I would hide in a corner#
Nah, nothin' No music, no enemies, and even if there were, they wouldn't be following me to the tavern and preventing me from resting. I suspect maybe the Level 4 Mage Spell "Spirit Armor" is bugged because it started shortly after I started using it. It lasts for 2 hours which is why traveling may reset it. Going to play a bit without it and see what happens.
You are most certainly correct, good sir or Madame. I shall strive to play games within the faraday cage (constructed within my bomb shter), in order to gain the proper experience intended by the developer. Clearly this isn't a bug that should be fixed, and should be considered a feature designed to improve overall immersion.
The portrait bar has a button on it to expand and collapse. So does the bar on the other side. You must have mishit it.

If you get any popup notifications, or switch apps (I switch to Chrome to check for item locations to ensure I don't miss any hidden objects, from time to time), there's a chance the game will essentially lock up. Annoying. Originally posted by eugenemcardle Why is this a problem? If your life is so busy that you can't miss a notification perhaps you shouldn't be playing games.. Of course, you could always switch do not disturb on, a simple enough task, from the bottom of the home screen prior to play time. You will admit though, it's a pretty big cage Also, many developers put in the rider "it is reccomended that all background apps be shut down before playing this game". Perhaps if Beamdog had said the same......, multitasking is a funny business.
You know, sometimes it's best to just admit you made a mistake. Are you really going to argue that it's not a bug for an app to lock up if a notification pops up while the app is running? It's fine to point out that disabling notifications is a workaround, but saying it's not a bug because there's a workaround is just silly.
Mr bilboa, if you had read the posts you would have noticed; I never once said it WASN'T a bug; we are NOT arguing, merely having a bit of a laugh. Go back to your burrow in Middle Earth or wherever it is. I have taken the time to highlight some of the next in the post. Hopefully it will be of some benefit to you. The purple text is a play on words, as used by characters in the game, albeit with an american accent even though the game is set in medieval times, before America was even a thorn in Columbus's eye.
Okay, finally I have finished all ongoing games (Dragon's Crown for PS Vita is just too damn awesome), so I have jumped headlong into BG2. It's no surprise that I love it. I have not played it in the past, so it'll be a new experience, and with this much content I'll be occupied with it for monthes. I've encountered a bug (sorry if this was mentioned): When I have imported my savegame from BG1, the hero's voice was disabled, so I had to enable it via the customize option. It's no big deal, since I've missed two shrieks from the beginning, but hey, every bug is a bug. Also, is it just me, or are the character voiceovers recorded in worst conditions then BG1? I got this strange distorted feel when the characters are talking (especially Imoen). It was clearer in BG1, though I think it has to do something with the sound compression of the older era.
Are you saying your "why is this a problem, why do you need notifications while gaming" comment was just a joke? If so then I apologize for not picking up on that.
I am saying what is so important that you allow it to interfere with your gaming# Time to move on I think.
'what is so important' is completely irrelevant. Multitasking is a core feature of iOS and works flawlessly with 99 percent of games. The warning to close background apps is for older devices with slower CPUs, not buggy software that doesn't meet minimum quality standards. It doesn't need a workaround or a lecture on how we should spend our gaming time, it needs fixing. Everything about your last few posts is just pointlessly argumentative and shows a real cognitive dissonance. Go sit in the corner and think about how silly you are.
Bugs I've dealt with so far: -game has a chance of not recognizing touches after a notification, being minimized, or waking from device sleep. It doesn't actually lock up-- animations still work-- you just can't do anything. can only be fixed by closing and restarting the app. This happens A LOT. I would estimate 50% of the time. -minimizing the app and then returning sometimes causes it to have a blank space at the top where the iOS status bar used to be. All touches then register a few cm off as though the statusbar were there, changing the screen size. -scrolling through shops is a nightmare -cannot move ammo stacks except one by one (wow even in bg1 you could do this by tapping a bunch until the window popped up) -touch cross hair sometimes disappears for no reason -touch sensitivity prioritizes doors and chests to such an extent that you can tap directly on an enemy and your character will instead run to a chest. happens about 75% of the time. especially bad when fog of war is around a corner or obscuring a room. -standard attack script randomnly changes targets for no reason (worked fine in bg1), causing fighters to run across the room for a new target, or leave near-death targets to move on to uninjured ones. -shadows insta kill you in circus tent quest one or two of these bugs would be understandable...but this many? it reeks of a very rushed and lazy beta testing stage. what's even more baffling is that they are using the same exact engine and it worked fine in bg1. at this point I'm only still playing because of nostalgia and a deep love for this game. If I were a new player I would be very very frustrated.
I should have reposted my original where I described the bug. If you travel to a new area, building, etc while the portraits are minimized, the tab to bring them back up disappears completely. Try it for yourself, but make a few save game backups first. Also, I can confirm that the Spirit Armor does indeed prevent you from resting or saving on occasion. Oh, and sometimes you can't target enemies. And the game can freeze if you let your device go to sleep with the game running. And the ranged script will default to a melee weapon if you are using a ranged weapon that makes its own ammo. Shall I go on? I am loving this game but this is a shabby port as it stands right now.
Was able to clear the circus tent with hasting to second floor, focusing on the visible wolf first once at the top. Then profit. Onward!
