in this case, the bug is such that they do damage regardless of whether you make them "real" or not. on the BG forums, it appears that you can get past this if you transfer your save to PC. But of course not everyone owns double copies.
It sounds like the solution in this thread about altering the werewolves weapons Briggs up a possibility. It suggests that the werewolves have one weapon attached to them before you attack that is supposed to be harmless, but is vorpal instead. But when you attack the weapon gets replaced with one that does regular damage. What would happen if you attack them all? It seemed to me that when a party member attacked one, it stopped instant killing my party. Not the best alternative answer, but interesting thought to try out. I agree with the other reviews on this. If you haven't bought it yet, wait. If they end up not fixing things, you will end up with a broken game. When they fix it, then maybe.
Thankfully I skipped the circus tent completely in favor of gearing up and never went back. Found another big bug in the fighter stronghold quest line that prevents you from getting the flail of the ages. It's also in the PC version but is not game breaking like the circus quest. No crashing so far, although path finding is just as poor as the PC version, and targeting enemies that are bunched up makes me want to play with a stylus.
The werewolf bug rubs me the wrong way for all the reasons mentioned above, to the point where I'm considering filing for a refund. The fact that one of the very first quests in the game has a showstopping bug, coupled with how slow Beamdog was in updating the iPad version of BG1 gives me absolutely no confidence in BG2, even if I am somehow able to get past this circus tent.
Are there tool tips in this version of the game? There's an option for tool tip delay in the settings menu, but I don't see any tool tips in-game.
I have finished the tent quest, killed the baddy gnome, found the boys mother, and left the tent, all without coming across the so called "game breaking bug". Used ranged weapons and the hold spell, with plenty of saves between battles, died a few times but hey, that's why we save often right??? Love this game, even more than I did on the PC years ago. The problem with today's "gamers" is short attention span, the need to have their hands held the entire time, and giving up when the going gets tough. That's why Angry Birds etc are such big earners. Welcome to the real world of gamers: explore, experiment, and enjoy a superb port of a brilliant game.
Also frustrating is the fact that on the buy screen everything scrolls to fast to look at it's almost impossible to see the items because they are moving too fast. - And items are not labeled you have to hold down to just see what they are. Really annoying.
Also hard at times to target no visible indication or placing spells on certain area of map. They should be some kind of highlighting around items that are selected. There is plenty of empty UI space to put text Why push a game out when it's not ready?
That's not a bug. There's never been any spell indicators in this game! Not 10 years ago, and not today. It haven't been a problem before, and it isn't a problem today. Where you place your finger or mouse pointer, that's where your spell will be cast. How big of a space the spell will fill is something you'll know after you've cast the spells a few times.
I haven't played BG2:EE yet, except for a quick look at the first dungeon, as I want to finish my current run in BG:EE first, but if there's a bug in the circus tent, it's hardly a game breaking bug, unless you're running a hardcore game where you refuse to save to add challenge to the game. That's a valid way to play. Most people don't restrict their game like that, and it's prudent to save, and save often. If you follow that philosophy when encountering a bug like this, it's pretty easy to load an earlier save, skip that quest for the time being, and continue the game. It's a huge game, and there's hundreds of quests beside that one. There's bound to be a patch at some point that'll fix it. All I'm saying with this, is that it's not nessecarily a "game breaking" bug.
Never had a problem with the buy screen. All items are labeled, with price and number of. Touch and hold will give you more information if required. As far as not being able to see what they are because they scroll too fast: that is crap. If you tap the scroll bar the item at the bottom will become the item at the top ie page up, or down as is the norm for windows. Too many of these moans are unjustified. Try and enjoy the game for what it is; one of the best RPG's available on any platform. As an aside, I have yet to see any piece of software that has been released, without the need for patching down the track.
Well, i've managed to get through the tent without loosing party members. I've used Dispel and Hold on the werewolf right next to the entrance in hope his first hit misses out on my main which needed a couple of attempts. Only Hold and distance attacks on the werewolf in the middle of the room which will attack as soon as my party crossed the stairs, easy. The werewolf on the 2nd floor wasn't bugged for me and therefore an easy kill. Thanks for the advice guys, though, i still think it's not okay if someone have to play the game in other ways then he did years ago or the original game was meant to be played.
What's the diff between this and baldur's gate enhanced edition? Can I just play this without the first one?
Is a bug because the scroll bars should not be nessecary to use, they're for the PC version. The behavior prior to the patch, and anywhere else in every menu of the game, you can tap a selection and just scroll up or down with a finger. The scroll bars are very small on the iPad, so it's not easy to use, nor is it consistent or intuitive when it's the only place in the game you have to use them. As I wrote Beamdog acknowledges it's a bug that was introduced with the latest patch, and they intend to fix it. Other than that, I agree that there's a fair amount of overreacting here about "game breaking bugs" and such like when there's no such thing.
You can play it without playing the first game, the backstory is explained in a cutscene, but you may be a bit overwhelmed in the beginning, as you don't start as a level 1 character, and will have access to a lot of spells and powers very early in the game. Also, BG:EE is a great, great game too, and it will ease you into the universe a bit more gentle, as you start as a level 1 character. That being said, a lot of people prefer this game, and would advice you to buy this if you only have the means to buy one of the games. My advice? Buy and play them both. Weeks and weeks of entertainment.
Is this game affected by the new bug in Baldur's Gate: Enhanced after the 1.2 patch where item descriptions don't scroll anymore when in shop lists? In the inventory they work fine, just not in shops.
