☺️ I'm pretty sure it's more complicated than that.. But I don't know much about this sort of thing either, but I'm very curious, as I do feel the touch interface up until now have been serviceable, but a long way from optimal...
It's certainly playable, but it's also definitely not as comfortable or fun as playing it on the bigger screen. All things considered, I'd still recommend it.
Mini Feels like it was built for the full sized iPad, but if you have never experience Baldur's Gate, just get it, it is a true classic
I'm on the fence. Rly want to play BG on my iPad. But with BGII coming it's hard to decide. BGII was sooo much better in every way. I know, if i buy BGI and BG2 will be released a week later, i would delete BGI and probably never play it again :/
I thought thw stories in Baldur's Gate I & II are linked? So it is unlikely that you will abandon the first game once the second is out. I am holding off on Baldur's Gate in case there is a sale when II is released.
+1 I think you should play both, because the storyline is different and they are linked. You won't get bored of BGI when you buy BGII. I recommend that you play the first one (80+ hours of gameplay) first and then get on to the second one.
They're also going to release a patch for BG1 soon that will allow for transferring a character into the sequel-- the reason bg2 has been delayed on the iPad is because beamdog wants to have that functionality in place for the first one before they roll on to the sequel port.
I would disagree. The first one is just as good as the second one IMO. If one have played the first game, the story in the second game is much easier to undress and appreciate. Besides, it's possible to import the character from. BG1 to BGII, at least it will be once the patch is released.
Guys, i've played both on my PC years ago (i'm an old school RPG gamer) and i know the story is linked. But for me, BGII was much better and bigger. But that's just my opinion ofc. I just need an adequate RPG for my Pad now (it's cold outside), that's it. I wouldn't miss any part of the story cuz i remember very well whats going on there. I would take BGII over BGI every day, that's why i'm on the fence. I think they were already using the new render engine in BGII. Heard there's a problem in BGI when using certain spells on iPad, sooo i wouldn't have to mess around with that, though, i dunno how bad it rly is. Sadly, Beamdog didn't put out a release date as of yet...
Nope, they didn't. That's the major part of the next update we're waiting for now.. They fixed it in the PC version, but not yet on the iPad version. Most spells works fine, but area of effect spells still put most iPad's to a crawl. I haven't yet played the game on my iPad air, the power of that device might be able to overcome this issue, but on my iPad 3 I mostly tried to avoid that kind of spells.
They slashed the price in half back in October, so while I'm slightly disappointed at the lack of a BF sale, I'm not too surprised. On the other hand, the day's still young, so who knows...
No use slashing Baldur's Gate's priece in October when the iAir and retina Mini is only out now. Customers just did not have the space to buy...
I'm going to answer my own question... I found this info posted on Beamdog's iPad forums, posted by one of the developers: "Here's another tidbit to help you with the wait: by using the native input routines, we are letting the OS tell us what a tap is, a tap and hold, a tap and drag, double tap, etc. The old way, the BGEE code had to take the raw input and interpret those taps and gestures. Turns out that Apple is better at reading and parsing their touch screen than we are This change won't introduce any new functionality, but it has eliminated a few annoying bugs and should make the UI more responsive and less likely to do something unexpected. Here's one example of a bug fixed by this: Before, if you clicked on the right side of an open container button, the container would open then immediately close. That is because that part of the button is on the same part of the screen as the "Done" button, and so the game would register a tap on the Open button, and then the Done button. Sure, we could have spent some more time working out the correct timing to debounce the tap without making the UI sluggish, but Apple was so kind to do that for us "
Sounds pretty awesome. Thanks for the update, Bytebrain! Now, of course, the patch just needs to come out-- and then BG2EE, oh yes.
Quote from Trent Oster, found on Beamdog's message boards, presumable gleaned from a Tweet by Trent: "TrentOster: tennyson1842 iPad patch is in Release Candidate testing right now. If it is good we'll submit to App store." I'm hoping the quote is legitimate and the test will run without major errors. If so, we might just get the patch for BG:EE before Christmas. Remember, this patch is a pretty big deal. They've complete re-written the renderer, a massive task, which should eliminate the horrible slowdowns when using area of effect spells. Crossing fingers and toes we'll get the patch sooner rather than later.
