want to buy, so the game is 80 hours with a lvl 6 cap? somthing dosent seem right? is the story good? tons of loot? dialoge choices to change the story? replayability?
I can't confirm the level cap, but this game comes from the time when RPGs had very strong roots in D+D. And in D+D, it can take a very long time to level up. MMORPGs and JRPGs have largely changed this. I for one far prefer the BG/D+D way because it makes a level much more significant. Nowadays leveling is a dime a dozen. It's the breadcrumb trail to lead players every step of the way rather than the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. And now I'm done with all the idioms. And to answer your questions, yes, yes, yes, and yes! You can't really have a game this huge without all of that - it would get incredibly boring.
Your dialogue options can dramatically alter the story. Everything from party members, to enemies, to quests available to quest outcomes. Every time you play through the game it will be different. I've played through about 5 times in my life and I still see new stuff every time!
I interpret Markku's query in light of how does BG compare to later story-telling RPGs - most notably Bioware's KOTOR, ME and DA. BG is a massive game with lots of content, but it isn't predominantly dialogue driven. Conceptually these gameplay elements are on a sliding scale, as opposed to black and white choices. There is an over-arching story in BG, but you are given considerable freedom in how you approach it. As LCDDreams stated, BG is based upon Advanced Dungeons and Dragons (AD&D) rule-set and uses a small area within the 'Forgotten Realms' as the setting. Whilst you can recruit party members of all different stripes, choose various quests and plots in a sprawling open-world setting, BG is principally - at it's heart - choosing one's party composition (in terms of classes and alignment), killing one's foes, and gathering as much loot as one can. There are no massive dialogue trees as in KOTOR or ME. Don't conflate a vast wealth amount of content with a story-telling, cinematic experience. FWIW, I *love* BG due to the sheer amount of content, ambient sounds, funny and charming NPCs, bickering party members, and the sheer amount of choice in party formation and tactics. Not to mention the difficulty. From the get-go, you're thrown in at the deep-end - partly, because the AD&D rule-set is punishing at low-levels. That said, I absolutely detest AD&D 2nd edition on so many levels. Don't get me started on THAC0! Again, with games that were originally released many, many years ago (the golden period of 1998 for gaming), you cannot go wrong reading customer reviews on Amazon.
Is there a short and to the point guide for the user interface? I'm finding it hard to get started when I can't figure out which character is what class, along with other little things. The guides I've found are all way more involved than i need or have the spare time for unfortunately. I'm an old school gamer, but I missed he BG era of games.
I'm looking for someone to 2-man (or 1-man 1-woman) this game with. I remember how stoked I was when I got this when it came out. Bg2 is my fav but I love all the infinity engine games. They are all worth more than they are asking for. Any wants to take me up on my offer pm me. Tablet, PC, idc. If its PC I can host a vent.
Well this sucks: http://forum.baldursgate.com/discussion/19376/announcement-baldur-s-gate-enhanced-edition-has-been-temporarily-removed-from-sale "Hi Friends. Please read this announcement from Trent: Dear Friends of Baldur's Gate, We recently removed Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition from sale on Beamdog and the Apple App Store. We've taken this step at our publishing partner's request as we attempt to resolve a number of contractual issues. Unfortunately, until this matter is resolved, we are unable to release the latest Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition patch or Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition for Android. This also prevents the launch of Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition. I sincerely apologize to the series' fans and promise we are working diligently to remedy the situation. Regards, Trent Oster President, Beamdog & Overhaul Games Baldursgate.com has additional information in a FAQ. Believe me when I say we're extremely unhappy about this. We didn't have confirmation of this until today, and it is indeed sad news. We will work through this issue, but we don't know when." Apparently it's gone and who knows when it will return... Also bodes ill for the Android release.
Ouch, that does suck. And did you see what's listed for the upcoming patch that they can't release? Well hopefully they work things out soon. I doubt the resolution will take the game off the market - it's probably just a matter of working out some details that will take some time.
and i just deleted this today to get room for xcom.I have to redownload thru the past purchases and back this bad boy up. Hope it works out quickly, I was looking forward to the sequel.
The "can't comment" part of the official statement makes me think that things won't be worked out soon...
I did the same thing! I don't have a computer to back up the download either. Pants. Clear room to redownload, I guess.
thank god for purchased section of app store. and as a bonus, i see they finally set it up so that that section loads nice and fast heh. if you've previously purchased this game its still there for you to download from the purchased section.
Lucikly I have it on my ipad already but very disappointing since I was looking forward to the next update and also for BGII and maybe eventually even Icewind Dale being released. Getting ports of X-com and KOTOR have been as important for ios gaming as losing BG is disastrous to it.
