Help!! I'm really struggling The game is still running fine and I'm managing to play it but I suck. I'm in beregost or however you spell it, I have the quest to kill the spiders in this persons house but wow, is it tough I have 6 in my party and they all die very fast and I can't even kill one of the damn spiders. Help?
Hi Mene, I am certainly no expert in the game, since I am yet to start playing it. That being said, there are several tips in the many pages of this thread, one of which that I remember being to use ranged weapons while your character is weak. Another thing I remember someone mentioning somewhere was to read through this spoiler-free guide, which apparently does a good job at introducing the basics to newcomers to the series: http://www.pocketplane.net/volothamp/bgguide.htm Hope this helps. I have it on my reading list before starting the game. Cheers!
Thanks for the help! Sadly even after reading through that, my party still cannot even kill 1 spider, let alone all 4. Some party members are dying within 2-3 secs of entering the building. This has been a great source of frustration and anger. I spend weeks trying to get the game to work and when I do, I come to a complete brick wall within 2 hrs of playing. Needless to say, to save my ipad flying across the room this game has been deleted. Stuff it.
I think the issue is that you're trying to do this quest too early. There are lots of other side quests you can do. Or you can even just wander around and fight random monsters. Anything to help build up your party. Most of the game does not need to be completed in order - the exception of course is the main story quests.
That's just a side quest, so not being able to complete it with your party's current level is not a brick wall by any stretch of the imagination. Just skip it for now and come back when your party members are higher level and have better equipment.
Don't give up that easy. Like others have said, save the quest until later, where you'll be stronger. One thing in particular in that quest that is helpful is to use the spell "Sleep". It's very powerful in many instances when you're low level. Put those critters to sleep and stomp on those mofos... It'll do the job for sure. Other than that, I'll recommend using the official forums, there's a very good section where newcomers to the game can get help with general strategies and specific quest help too. Don't give up so easy, you'll miss out seriously. In this game it's very possible indeed to go up against foes you have no chances to beat, you'll soon figure this out, and realize that sometimes retreat is the best solution in a given situation. Then solve a few other quests, level up, learn a new spell or skill and come back. It's very satisfying to kill something with easy that you struggled with earlier. That's the charme of the game, there's nothing restricting you, you can go anywhere, and anywhere can often get you killed. That's why the quicksave button is there.
Thanks for the advice guys, I assumed that was the main quest, not a side quest. My mistake. I'm downloading it again and I'll restart and I think the best idea is, I'll wander around fighting random mobs and try to level up a bit. Thanks!
What!! You mean it gets harder than the whole party dying in 5-6 secs and not even killing one mob? *runs away screaming*
The quest labeled "Important Events" is the main quest line. Everything else in your quest log is optional. So go nuts on all the other stuff!
It does get harder, but you'll also become much more adept at the game, utilizing the large selection of spells and skills in the game. You'll grow with the game, I promise. This is a huge game, and you haven't even scratched the surface yet.
Yep. I remember the hardest battle I had the first time I played back in the 90s - it wasn't the end battle. It was a stupid little skirmish in a maze with some skeleton warriors. I must have played that battle like 10 times before finally beating it. In that case though, I didn't have the option to go do other stuff first - there wasn't really anything else to do because I was on my way to the final scene. I simply had to stick with it and try different strategies until I found one that worked (don't remember what it was). Because you have such complete freedom (unlike the more simplistic JRPG style of combat), there are infinite ways a battle can take place. A simple difference of a few feet in the positioning of one of your party members can mean success or defeat. So if something's not working, in addition to the other suggestions, you can also try just going about the battle in a different way. And yes, the quicksave is awesome. I use it any time I know I have a big battle coming up as well as saving after I've been in an area for a while (no need to save upon entering an area since the autosave will save right before you leave any area).
Just laughed so much at this. I'm out exploring the landscape and killing random mobs when it starts to rain. Fine, no problem its only a little water right? Then 2-3 mins later my mail wearing warrior gets stuck by lightning. I almost dropped the ipad I was laughing so much. Lol!
I know it's a big ask but can we get it on iPhone! I know it's a squeeze but my iPad has popped and having to make do at the mo!
To go along with some other peoples' advice, I accidentally killed off half the town with this encounter. I left most of my party at an inn, and sent a single character into the house with a potion of invisibility in her inventory. After walking in, the spiders, of course, saw me and moved to attack. I ran out of the house door. The spiders, giving chase, followed her into the streets! My idea had been that the city guards would then do the dirty work for me while I drank the invisibility potion and watched. Unfortunately, there were no guards around so the spiders roamed the streets mauling fleeing villagers until they finally ran into some guards powerful enough to kill them. Interesting side note - I remember making decent money from the dead villagers. After laughing for a good twenty minutes at the whole ordeal, I wondered if my good party members would complain. They seemed oddly okay with me unleashing a group of lion-sized poison spiders on civilians and then looting their still warm bodies.
