The frame rate still drops rock bottom when using aoe spells, which is disappointing. I wonder will they ever fix this...
The reason they've been taking this long for the patch is because they wanted it running on the iPad 1. It does run! Check the official forums for testimonies if you don't believe it. Now, the fact that the original iPad have very little memory, is abandoned by Apple and most game developers make it a small miracle they've made it work, albeit with the caveat that it will almost certainly run out of memory often, hence the need to save often. A small price to pay for the privilege IMO, especially considering the uproar and rage from iPad 1 owners when it wouldn't run before. As far as I know, the only thing not included on the iPad 1 is the ability to zoom, as it uses more processor power than is available on the device.
Seriously, you could know this from the beginning and that's why i did buy the first iPad. I mean, it's big screen with as much memory as iphone 3GS, seriously. It was just like the iPad 3 with his underpowered GPU for retina display. Unbalanced from the beginning. I can understand that people without knowledge of hardware can be trapped but no excuses for thhe others.
Well, I have an iPad 3 and have no issue with Retina, although I know there's a few select demanding games that had to cut a few effects to make it work with Retina. Not a bit issue, for sure. What I was responding to was your statement that BG:EE wouldn't run on iPad 1, which isn't true at all. It starts, it runs, but the risk of frequent crashes are bigger, that's all.
They're apparently rewriting the whole rendering system, so yeah, they want to fix it. A fix like that is liable to take a while, though. https://twitter.com/TrentOster/status/294560070392483840 To those who dare to run this on an iPad 1: Don't forget to give your iPad a reboot after installing.
So ... any word on BG II? I'm getting close to maxing out my core party w/respect to their experience ...
I said it before and I'll say it again: Dorn is a wrecking ball. Probably the most damage output of any NPC, but not the toughest warrior. I tend to gear up a warrior with better dex/con for tanking and send Dorn in second targeting whichever enemy I want him to demolish with his 40 damage crits. Comparing Dorn with Misc when you first get them, he trades 1 hp per level for -1 AC, and packs an extra +2 to hit, +4 damage, and double critical hits thanks to strength, weapon spec, and magic sword. He trades Berserk and lame ranger abilities for a superior set of blackguard tricks. Dorn's quest line is also the only way to get elven chainmail in BG1. Neera is a fine mage and just fun to have around. As long as you can handle her volatility, I'd even say she rivals Edwin. She has extra spells like a specialist, but no forbidden schools, and Nahal's Reckless Dwoemer promises to be very powerful (albeit dangerous) at high levels. Yes, I think I would Even if you don't keep her, she comes with a gem bag and a +1 staff. Honestly, in BG1 at least, the paid NPCs kick Rasaad's ass.
So I just finished the game, and I'm grateful for the devs who brought this game to the iPad. It was a blast to play, I last played it when it first came out years ago. Did anyone get very far with the romance quest with Neera (the new wild mage)? I was talking to her quite a bit, we did her side quests, I got the journal entry, "I think she likes me" after I gave her a compliment, and then... nothing. It just stopped. Hrmm. That last version update was great. Way easier to click on loot, and it seemed like I could see doors and stuff like that better. I did have some small bug issues here and there - opening containers in my inventory was a huge hassle. I had to click "open container" like 6 times before the gem bag or the potion bag would open. Also the game crashed if I was re-loading a save after my main dude died. And even after the update, it still crashed on my iPad 2 about once an hour. But overall... it was a great game and I would recommend it to anyone. I'm looking forward to BG2! (and saying nightly prayers for Planescape: Torment at some point.)
I have stopped playing this. I'm at the mines trying to beat the leader, the first boss fight if you will. My party are just too bloody weak. It's a shame as I was enjoying the game but I can't keep fighting the same battle over and over :/
Yeah, neonbible is right. There's lots of places you'll get your ass handed to you if you visit them before leveling up a bit and/or getting some better equipment and spells. Also, it might be that you're not using good tactics in the battle due to inexperience at the game, or a bad combination of party members, or a combination of both. It's a good idea to do a lot of smaller side quests to get experience and strength before moving on to the main story (of which the Naskael Mines are a part of), and you might miss out on a lot of great stories, encounters and quests if you don't.
The romance possibilities with Neera in BG:EE is just the beginning, I believe. They intend to expand on it in BG2:EE, the same goes for the other new characters. Consider your experiences Neera a "Prelude" of things to come. Regarding the bags of potion and gems, just tap the upper left corner to open or close. Or is it the right corner? Can't recall. It's a bug they haven't corrected yet.
