Not the brightest advice, mate, so don't get upset if I ignore it! My point really is this is quite shoddy and half-done. It doesn't feel to me like it's been properly tested else any half decent tester would have reported all the PC-centric references in the text etc. Tutorial is poor. Awkward to know what spell does what. Sure - if you are an experienced player you may already know these things but honestly, why should I know which red and grey spell blob is which? No - can't make excuses for this that hold water - it's been rushed out before Xmas and forget those excuses about iPad-1 issues causing delays - I think they played for as much time as they could, realising this wasn't quite right. Needs a really good update to get this back on track, I think...
The very first thing you see, with the UI minimized (by me). Around the same area, more characters on-screen with the UI up. Same spot, zoomed out to the max (the above is the default). iPad 4th gen.
Ahh, ok, yes, I see the spell descriptions now after holding and releasing on the spell (don't know why I didn't think of that before ). As for what you were referring to, what confused me was when you said select the spell icon - thought you were referring to the spell button on the left instead of the one at the bottom. That help screen just shows the spell names, no descriptions, but that's fine because those are spells I've already memorized and know what they do. Anyway, thanks for the info!
@LCDDreams You're right, it just shows the spell names, no description. I remembered it wrong when I wrote otherwise...
Man, Dungeon Hunter 3 and Glu's Eternity Warriors just a so much better RPG than this premium junk, I mean, DH3 is free when this cost like a whole $10. Crazy. And DH3 has way better graphics dude. It's so much better. This needs to be .99 or free, then I'll think about it if it gets a 5 star review, updates and no IAP. Oh and it needs a first person mode for battles like Skyrim. And multiplayer.
I went with the Monk as my main and am not too far into the game (liking him a lot so far) so I don't mind restarting if needed. Any general tips for Monk use (stats, etc)? I chose the two ranged abilities (needles & sling) in the beginning for my bonuses but don't see myself needing them because it says using no weapon is the class' strength. Should I have picked two other starting skills instead? The needles/darts are cool I guess just to have something ranged... I have a Paladin file going as well that I can play in the mean-time but I'd rather lead a game as Monk.
The monk is seriously difficult to play in BG. He wasn't in the original vanilla BG, but was "imported" from BG2 because the game use the engine from BG2. The monk is great at higher levels, he becomes very powerful, one of the most powerful classes in the game, and he was in BG2 because you start at a much higher level in that game. In BG:EE you start as level 1, which is, for me, more fun, but also more challenging, you have no access to higher level spells and abilities until very late in the game. The monk will be a great class to try out if you're an experienced BG player, he will make the game more challenging, but as a newbie, I would stay away from using him as your main char. The monk is really fragile at low levels, can't wear armor, and doesn't really gain powers until late in the game. He's very, very weak in the beginning. The Paladin is a great class to start your first game of BG with. Just remember, you have to play as a seriously Good Guy, and keep an eye on your reputation. If it becomes too low, you'll loose your Paladin Abilities and Spells, and will become a "Fallen Paladin". As long as you don't kill the innocent and be sure to help old people over the road (watch the chickens), you'll be fine though.
LOL Unless you want to start a flame war, I'd suggest you use a /sarcasm on /sarcasm off In comments like this...
Thanks Bytebrain, I prefer the challenge and haven't played BGII so I'm eager to go the distance as a Monk on the main game, then The Black Pits. All of my starting stats are at 14 and STR is at 15, is that ok? What I wasn't sure of was the two skill points? I just figured picking both the ranged options were the best choices as all of the others were weapon related. What do you think?
the stats you want are: 18 str 18 wisdom 18 dex as much vit as possible the rest is optional. int and cha can be set as low as you want. dex and wisdom will both give you bonuses to your Armor Class. Strength adds to your attack rolls and damage. dex will give a bonus to ranged damage. My suggestion would be to get to the Friendly Arm Inn and get Khalid and Jaheira in your party to tank for you while you attack with the sling from afar. Khalid has good charisma if i remember right-- put him in the first party slot as leader. Minsc in Nashkel is also a good tanker. In the unnamed area south of nashkel, you can fight a guy and get Bracers of Archery, which adds +2 to ranged throws and damage. you can also buy a +1 sling at the blacksmith in Beregost. your melee attack is pretty weak until you get to level 5 or 6. Darts are a bit weak early, bur you can find some good magical ones later on.
I got two options for my Monk: - Strength: 18 - Dexterity: 18 - Constitution: 14 - Intelligence: 12 - Wisdom: 18 - Charisma: 12 Or I can go: - Strength: 18 - Dexterity: 18 - Constitution: 18 - Intelligence: 10 - Wisdom: 18 - Charisma: 10 Not sure if INT and CHA are that important to Monk or if its better to just pump CON?
That annoying mage keeps saying: You havent had me learn a spell yet, then gives instructions I cannot understand at all. which buttons, where? Can anyone take a minute to explain which icon, how it looks, where I hit what to continue? I wan't to play this and like it, but so far it has been one of the worst tutorials I have ever experienced. Edit: Okay it was the inventory button. Why didn't he just say so. Damn this is so confusing.
Yeah, the tutorial can be confusing. The blurry interface is hard to deal with. I feel like I need to clean my glasses constantly. I wish the interface was sharper.
con will be a lot more useful you dont really need int since you only have three skills to spend points on, and charisma can be handled by someone else like a paladin
Anticlimax is how I'd describe my experience so far with this, after waiting so long to play it, plus enjoying other similar games like the spiderweb RPGs I was sure I'd love this but I find it overly complicated where it doesn't need to be. It's complicated because every instruction is so sketchy not because of any dificult battles. I didn't even get through the tutorial, god knows why there are no spell tooltips, I eventually skipped the tutorial got 10 mins in and a small wolf kills both me and my partner even though she has a bow and me a sword. The characters just do nothing apart from stand in front of the wolf and get murked. Now all I see on loading is a black screen. Garbage! blurry backgrounds and pixelated sprites, not feeling this so far. Spiderweb RPGs seem a lot like is but with clear direction and instructions easy to play. I was expecting the same with balders gate but, gotto say I'm disappointed with it. Still I will persevere for now but it's bloody annoying already.no fun.
Since I've been playing Vice City, I haven't had much time to play Baldur's Gate, but I have started at least a tiny bit of a game with a lawful good paladin (redundant... I know... it was either that, or I was going to make a chaotic good fighter, name him Jack Bauer...). I rolled this (or well, adjusted a roll to this): - Strength: 18/99 - Dexterity: 18 - Constitution: 18 - Intelligence: 5 - Wisdom: 13 - Charisma: 18 Now my understanding is that intelligence and wisdom are only important for mage/cleric characters and aren't needed really for fighters/paladins. But I am still a bit concerned about having my intelligence be that low. I've never played Baldur's Gate before, but my experience with other RPGs is that sometimes if you're intelligence stat is too low, it can affect NPC opinion/disposition toward your character because they think you are an idiot.
I finished the tutorial with no issues. What irks me is that the text is not retina. Seeing as its a text-heavy game, it's really annoying to read blurry text.
I can't put a spell on belt either, have tried sleeping for 8hrs as well, can someone help me with this (probably)easy task cause I really want to like this game. Thanks guys
