    Playing iOS games, duh.

Oh, and since I got my iPad I noticed that the character's eyes widen just as it is about to die. Never noticed that on my 4S.

    Nice touch ;)

    Clonespikes?

I've completed every mission in day 1 except for one... Clonespikes (noon level 6) without cloning. Can anyone provide any hints? You have to fly close enough to the super clone powerups that they get magnetically picked up without fail. And yet I've watched YouTube videos where people fly right past the things and they don't budge..? Is there some trick that I'm missing that turns off magnetism or something? Any help would be appreciated... This has been driving me crazy! Thanks

Something has changed in the past couple updates. When I completed this mission, it was pretty much a breeze (like in the Youtube videos) because the clones were already stuck to the walls. For some reason they no longer are stuck at the start of the level, making it very difficult, but still possible.

Would be helpful to hear from one of the devs on whether this was an intentional change or a side effect from something else they tweaked.

For now, the only advice for the challenge is to try and approach the clones close to the sticky walls, so that the direction they come at you is directed into the sticky wall, making them move only a little before sticking.

First, I want to thank both Johannes Vuorinen and Juhana Myllys for an outstanding game. Everything has already been said so I'm not going to add much to the table in terms of praise but for a 2 persons job what you guys have achieved is simply phenomenal. Addictive, polished and extremely well designed, BADLAND is overall an incredible indie game experience - THANK YOU!

A few questions and other random ramblings:

    Hidden / Secret Achievements
Would you be so kind to give us more hints as where they are / what needs to be done to unlock them? No, I'm not lazy, I'm playing this game to death (save the clones!) and still have 3 Hidden Achievements missing. I still don't have it but I know of the GOD mode one in 'Day 1 - Dusk - Flaw' only because of a YouTube video. I discovered UNFASTEN (the button one) thanks to these forums, but the remaining two I have absolutely no idea (except for the fact that one is new and somewhere to be found in the recent release for 'Day 2 - Dusk').

    Challenges
The game is great without them - really - but it reaches whole new levels with them; I'm having a blast! Some challenges are extremely hard - and therefore extremely rewarding (you should see my wife's face when I beat a clone record) - and I want to thank you (again) for including those. No traps, power-ups and other landscape oddities seem to be randomly placed in BADLAND, you guys must have been beta-testing this game to death.

    User of these toucharcade forums
Matt33, congratulations on ranking #9 in the Total Clones Saved category!
I'm currently #29 on the Leaderboards and climbing… Or hoping at least ; )
I keep replaying every single level (I'm obsessed!) to "squeeze" more clone into those sweet humming exit tubes, but I find it more and more difficult and for the life of me cannot comprehend how people get to the 2,000 mark (2,098 for #1 on the Leaderboards as of 10/12/13). Matt33, you saved an impressive 1,898 clones (!!!), that's 321 more clones than I have saved and honesty at this point I can see how to maybe, maybe reach 1,700, but beyond that I truly don't know what to do anymore. Would you be willing to share some tactics? (Are the top guys beta testers with early access to 'Day 2 - Night,' hence why they are able to save so many clones? Just wondering…)

    Which brings me to...

    YouTube Videos
I was hoping for a bigger YouTube community around BADLAND, there is a lot of challenges walkthroughs out there but so very few about Clone Saving records. I posted a few myself that I'm proud of (http://www.youtube.com//grandmort) and I hope I can spark some interest for other to show off a bit and join the fray (guys, while the replay feature in BADLAND is insanely great, use it in conjunction with Everyplay and boom, posting game footage and other records has never been easier!).

I'm an addict, I need to save more clones, I really would like to see who else is doing what out there… Thanks to all.

    Oh, and… Can't wait for 'Day 3!' ; )

Thanks! Although, my total clones saved score isn't very indicative of my placing amongst other players at the moment (1,096 clones saved on Day 1 is more impressive than #9 overall). I haven't really played the Day 2 Dusk levels at all, apart from completing them, and only have 133 saved there as a result. I've been too wrapped up in competing with KULLUA (and others that are close) for the top spot on the Day 1 leader board. When I get around to improving on the Day 2 Dusk levels, I'd expect to be #1 or #2 overall.

One of the devs posted some tips for improving your clone saving:
It's really about how effectively, and often creatively, you implement those ideas. As for the beta testing, nope! We've all got the same amount of levels to save clones on.

hi grandmort. nice to see a fellow badland addict. i once was where you are in clone count, and have wondered endlessly how the top guys have saved so many. what helped me a whole lot was studying carefully each and every power-up to see how they may or may not affect the level's game dynamics. then i try and figure out which i need and which ones i don't. i'm sure you've figured that part out. i also give as much careful thought to finding ways to pick up or avoid power-ups. i think this is key to saving more clones. i checked some of your youtube videos and can tell you're equipped with good reflexes which sure does come very handy. you mentioned that you find power-ups meticulously placed. just keep in mind that a lot of them, if not most, can be avoided. if you play levels long enough, you'll start seeing clever ways to avoid power-ups you don't want.

and no, we're not beta testers. i thought that too about the top guys with their insane scores. so find comfort that the clones are already out there for you to take.

i also think matt33 is just cooking up a big surprise. i'm painfully waiting for him to take top spot yet again. kullua and kubrick are making things very difficult for me so kudos to them too. i'm sure you'll be in the thick of things too not very long from now.

and if you have specific questions about clone counts, don't hesitate to drop a note.

Some work on Day 1 has paid off and I was able to break the 1,100 mark by 8 as of writing. Seems crazy now, that I was struggling to break 1,000 not so long ago. KULLUA's score appears to have dropped off that leader board again. I wonder if he already broke that mark before me, last saw him at 1,097. Maybe now I should give Day 2 Dusk some attention.

Thanks for the replies guys, wow, ogster, you are on these forums too! Awesome and huge congrats on your insane rankings on the leaderboards! 1,093 clones in 'Day 1' WOW! I got work to do (a pale 840 for me)… AND 2,091 clones total, that's INSANE! …And 10 clones away from the top spot!

My goal is to rank at least in the top 25 (top 10 would be nice) but, funny, here is how I rank at the moment:

    Total Clones Saved: 30
    Day I - Clones Saved: 40
Day II - Clones Saved: 30
Clones Saved - Highest Day: 40

    Yes, a clean 30-40-30-40… Like I did it on purpose ; )

Matt33, you are showing everywhere but on 'Day I - Clones Saved' and 'Highest Day,' I'm not sure why?

Now, for the meat of the subject:

Thank you, but I'm already implementing all the below (I guess I'm just not good enough… Yet!)

    - If possible, avoid power up that makes you bigger
Yes, I loath becoming bigger in this game, I always try to go as small as I can go - and I like the sound cue!

    - Generally avoid speed power up
Yep, when I discovered that one it made a world of difference on some levels.

    - Try to shape your swarm as small as possible
Yep, the elegant art of 'clone swarming!'

    - Sometimes roll and bounce power ups are bad because they tend to spread the swarm
Yep, I pretty much hate those too, they've ruined some of my 'swarm art' on many occasions.

That's good to know because now I really want to become better more than ever. If it's indeed all possible I want to be there, so thanks you two for clarifying that up!

Thanks, yes kudos to both KULLUA and kubrick8888 as well, I'm very impressed at the moment, are they on these forums too?

Ok, so in closing, while I don't want to be given any direct tactics, I'd love to hear at least about some of the levels where I can improve. It seems a lot is going on in 'Day I' since there is least another 253 more clones for me to grab there… I'll get to work! Ogster, would you care to hint at a few levels I should tackle?

What I would really like to eventually see online is a 'Clone Saving' ranking for every single level, it's nice to see where you can hold a clone record and where not. Has anyone done better than my 76 clones on CLONESPIKES (if you tell me 100 I'll get depressed)?

77 here. but speaking of, i would like to pose a query. i play on an ipod touch. i'm frustrated playing clonespikes because it seems the gameplay stalls ever so slightly (but enough to disrupt play) when i have too many clones on the board. i suspect it has something to do with the ipod touch processor. does this happen to others too?

it's weird but your day 1 score disappeared too, matt33. could it be that they put a cap on day 1 scores and not show those over 1099? it's funny i'm at the top for day 1.

so you're at 1108? i'll never get enough sleep.

Ogster, while I can't guarantee 100% it's the case you are most likely right. The game is a bit demanding on the graphic side and the iPod Touch you have might make the game lag slightly on some levels with large numbers of clones onscreen.

Thanks, I appreciate that. Here is the thing tough, I go back to every single level (in order) and give each level at least 3 tries to observe, get the feel, etc. Last night, on Day I - Dawn & Noon I improved on a handful of levels by a few clones (3 here, 5 here, 1 more there...), so now I'm at 1593 clones total. If I follow you private message I should at least improve on the level you mentioned by 6 clones (the difference between your run and mine), that would put me at 1,599 total.

So, I can now see how to maybe reach the 1,650 / 1,700 mark and then - I maybe blind, I may be bad - but I truly don't get it. Am I missing something? Is there a level (levels) where one can save a massive amount of clones (that is something much higher than the 76 / 77 on CloneSpikes) and I keep missing it?

This is driving me crazy. There is so many levels where it's just impossible to improve. Actually there are a majority I would say... Saving 500 more clones seems just impossible, or I'm not "seeing" something here.

Matt33, You've done it! Number 1 all across! Kudos and respect!

Trying to find the newest hidden achievement has been frustrating. I've been through all the levels looking for things unique to each one, or themes in each one that could be reversed, but haven't found it. Two of what I thought to be my most promising attempts were: completing 'Swampy' with reversed gravity, or knocking off 3 triangle corners in 'Districts.'

The latter could still be a viable option, there are 2 easy corners to knock off in the level, but the third loose one I found just wouldn't come off. I even tried hitting against it as 1 size larger than default, which was very difficult to accomplish, but that still didn't work. If that isn't the achievement, it's a sadistic red herring :)

Sorry for hi-jacking the thread a bit. Just wanted to quick introduce myself, say hey to everyone as I just found this site a couple days ago. I bought Badland right when it came out. Awesome, awesome game!! I've since had more time and have gotten back into it after Day II was released.

I've slowly been trying to get the achievements (and therefore save clones). I'm nowhere near where you guys are at yet, but I'll get there (hopefully ).

Also thanks to those who've given hints as to what the hidden achievements are! That's been a big help but I do like that answers aren't just given out. Very cool community! Feel free to add me on game center!

Tell me about it! I've been re-focused on clone savings in DAY I and it's becoming incredibly challenging - but fun!
As my goal to make the Leaderboard top 25 paid off, I'm might look for secret achievements again. If I pass the FLAW one (available online - I'm not spoiling anything) I will be missing only two; the one Matt33 is looking for in DAY II - DUSK and one other I have absolutely no idea about. Anybody has a hint (not the Button one)?

Matt33, congrats again on your incredible 2,115 clones. You break a 1,000 in both DAYs, it's just mind-blowing!

Welcome aboard Zach! I, like you, discovered these forums a couple weeks ago (while hunting for secret achievement hints) and I'm glad to see that both game's creators AND top players are active on here (at least Matt33 and ogster - I haven't bother reading the entire 42 pages of this thread to see who else is there).

I've been discussing with ogster moving the community to GameFAQs (and keeping it here at TouchArcade too) and writing an advance walkthrough for challenges and clone savings, we'll see. I'm just surprised there isn't more discussions online around this incredible game, maybe this is the real beginning of it.

    Save the clones!

I've had the thought of making a google doc for clone saving where players could enter how many clones they've saved on each level. Then there would be a summary showing the average per level and the max anyone has achieved. This would give people like me an idea of what's possible (for example I've gotten up to 75 on CLONESPIKES but I don't really know if that's good/average/whatever).

There's two main problems with this though:
    1) Sample size and the types of players that would be entering info
    2) Players willingness to share. Some may not want to share info after spending hours figuring it out only for you/me to shortcut it. Which is completely understandable.

At any rate, I'll keep plugging along!

That's a pretty good idea, go for it!
Yes, 75 is very good on CLONESPIKES, ogster and I have 76 (he thought he had 77 but it turns out it was 76), I still think one could break 80 but it might be a bit more luck than skill at that point.

Well, yes, I've been discussing a lot with ogster and indeed the sharing of advance tactics seems to be almost non existent right now. As you said, it's understandable for the top players to keep such info secret, they are spending hours on some of these levels.

Plus, if you are like me, you want to find out for yourself as much as possible, first, before 'giving-up' and going for solutions where somebody else did all the hard work.

Now, with that said, I believe we can find a middle ground and start logging-in what's possible (which I'm doing with ogster and where you might want to help with your doc). All advance tricks and tactics don't have to be revealed, yet we can see where everyone stands on a level to level basis.

I'm also posting a bunch of YouTube videos (I just realized you've subscribed - thanks!) where I only show pretty straight forward levels. One could say mid-range tactics on mid-range levels, nothing too complex or incredibly difficult. Once I'll reach the very advance levels where crazy things are possible with difficult preparation and skills, I'll re-discuss with the top players and we'll see if we reveal all to the world or parts of it only.

All I can say for the time being is that indeed what the top guys are doing is possible.
Yes, one can save over 2,100 clones (!!!). I'm now a believer where I was very skeptical a week ago.

Yeah, I agree with what you've said. I don't really want to know tactics per say - like a how-to video. I really do like figuring that stuff out. It'd just be nice to know what to shoot for. So if I've only saved 10 on some level but see someone has 15, I like figuring out how they did it. I don't really want a video showing me how. I subscribed to your channel so after I think I've got what I can I atleast have one source to compare to.
