It will play just fine! I got an issue with a corrupt save file and contacted them about it, a few people reported occasional crashes, which I also got a couple of times, but the issues seem sporadical.

I’ve played three campaigns now (unsuccessful, obviously!) for a few hours and am thoroughly enjoying it!

Yep, same here. I search, see the story, tap on it, turns out it’s the Mac version.

I am absolutely loving all the unlocks, items and the progression of the game. It’s so great that I don’t want to stop playing!

Have you used any of the upgradeable unit skills? Because I’ve been focused on upgrading their raw combat prowess, but damn does that Plunge ability look tempting...

Anyone know the penalties for armies being fatigued? There doesn't really seem to be time to rest with the fog closing in constantly. Wish there was time to grind out gold if we feel like it.

Just means you can’t use them more than once in the same turn.

Later on, you could have enough armies to do multiple islands in one turn, as long as the same ones don’t get sent out twice. I’m currently trying to do an island with one army to save 3 for another with a permanent unlock!

Early on, Vikings only advance one island at a time - which you should take advantage of! I tend to skip islands that would only give one or two coins and go for high value ones. By turn 10 I’m usually two turns ahead of the fog, which is enough to have a choice of where to defend later on.

Yes I have, and it becomes a must have to smoothly survive in certain islands.

Every time you increase the Raw unit, it increases the damage, HP and an other stat depending on the unit (Accuracy for archers, Resistance to knock back for infantry for instance). It is really important for archers because they tend to miss a lot of they shots if they are on high ground. And it is even more important for Infantry because soon some enemies have such strong Knock-backs that you can just loose half of your squad by drowning of falling down. Still, I would recommend upgrading the archers first because they can kill everyone on a boat even before they can set a foot on the shore :)

However, skills are also something useful, but I don't think it is as mandatory as Raw improvements. It helps you strategise some invasions so that only 1 squad can be enough while others are optimised. At one point, you will be surrounded by many small boats so you will have to split your forces.
If your infantry have a Plunge skill, they can wait in ambush on a higher ground and simply overwhelm the invaders by jumping at them (it also saves you time because you don't have to run around the island to position yourself).
The Charge skill of Pikemen is also really powerful in some islands where the enemy land in a corridor and can only advance in a straight line. I demolished a dozen of invaders with just 1 Charge at one point and the other 3 could focus on more urgent matters :)
The Arrow Volley is a nice skill but it just helps to deal some damage and doesn't have as much of a strategic value as the 2 other skills imo. Still, it is nice to support your troops with some damage (the arrows doesn't seem to damage your units so it is always useful).
Every time you upgrade a Skill, it seems to increase the damage, range or duration. I guess at some point, some really armoured units will appear and you will have to upgrade them.

What I really like are the items. Too bad that once you give them to a unit you can't unnequip it anymore but it makes each squad specialised in a certain job. And every item can also be upgraded for more damage, uses, range, duration, etc. There also seem to be a consumable type of items but I have yet to use them.

The more I play it and the more I like it. it's fun to stand your ground and kill the invaders just with archers before they even reach the coast. It's fun to struggle when you have half a dozen of boats arriving from every side. It's even more fun to discover new islands and layouts and adapt your strategy accordingly.
I am looking forward to do a new run and use the unlocked Passives and Items on a higher difficulty.

Just started playing, quick question to anyone who has played more - I’m on about the 4th island with enough coins to buy upgrades and (I’m guessing) define my characters class. Should I just do this or should I wait until the in gam3 tutorial gives me some kind of prompt.

    thanks in advance

There’s no tutorial prompt for this, up to you to do it as soon as you’re able. The militia (pre-upgrade units) are pretty weak on their own.

I have had two save files get corrupted so far. I get the error message “Error- Failed to load data Campaign #”. Does anyone know of any workarounds or fixes for this issue?

Did you install the new version that was released late Wed / early Thu?
Wonder if that fixed the save bug reported in the initial release.

That might be the issue. I had it pre-ordered, so it auto-downloaded before it was pulled from the appstore. I could have sworn the app updated once it was resubmitted. I will try deleting it and re-installing.

Had to download after reading the comments here despite having so many games already it sounds like something I should really like.

Although I’m sad I didn’t have time to check out more about it earlier and save some money on the preorder.

Likewise... but it's only a buck more, although every time I buy a premium game for $4.99 a little Tim Cook w/ horns appears to remind me that's one month of Apple Arcade. ;)

I bought Bad North and have NO REGRETS, I can't even remember the last time a found an RTS I could get into.
