Gameloft's Twitter just said that April 15th is the release for Xperia version of BackStab. So perhaps a release of May 15th at the earliest.
I've been feeling the same way. It's not that they're choosing to release this first on Xperia that bothers me, but that they're doing it for no reason except that Sony threw a wad of cash at them. One thing that I enjoy about the iOS gaming scene is that publishers don't engage in the "exclusive content" shenanigans you see in the console world. The app store is one of the best examples of nearly pure (and heartless) market capitalism: if Chair is making iOS exclusives it's because that's where the money is. There is no way that Backstab will make Gameloft any real money on Xperia -- the installed base is simply not there. But they'll take Sony's payola, no problem. I guess the fact that we're seeing this in the "mobile" market means that it's come of age (or more accurately, lost it's cherry).
Wow the lighting is actually really nice. The textures look like crap. They need to use parallax occlsuion mapping or at least some bump textures. Everything is too "flat".
That looks pretty awesome. However, it looks like it has crappy artificial boundaries - look at 1:17, it's just a crapp wooden fence to block your way. I hope it is true open world. don't forget this is probably the version on Xperia, so could be why it's crappy. Although I don't know what specs are compared to iPhone..
i think the xperia play might have better gaming specs then an iphone... im not 100% but i know it can run big games such as lbp or god of war ghost of spart
The specs look similar to the iPhone 4. They both have a 1GHz processor and both have 512MB of RAM. But the Xperia Play looses on resolution. The iPhone 4 has a 960 x 640 resolution, whereas the Xperia Play only has a resolution of 854 x 480. I just hope they manage to scale the game to retina resolution correctly, and get the controls right.
Well the Xperia has more GPU power...not by much alone...but the lower resolution is only about half as much as the iPhone...so it would play the same games over twice as fast.
Maybe, but the graphics won't look as sharp or detailed. The resolution is a step up from the PSP, but now I'm spoilt by my iPhone 4's pixel density, normal screens on other phones look bad in comparison.
