Hi, I seriously need help on backing up. I have an iPhone (1st gen) and I want to transfer to all the saved games to the iPod touch (3rd gen). Do I press back up on the iPhone then connect the iPod touch and add in restore back up? I don't know if this would work, tried looking through apple support but I am lost right now. This is also on a new computer... What I see so far- an Apple icon with a bar below it (on iPhone 1st gen screen), will that do it when I come to restore back to iPod touch? I think it might work now.. >no, it's not working. It only works with one library at a time, how do I transfer the library from the other computer to the new one? Is that even possible? Would home sharing work? It also said something that the iPhone was from another computer and that erase "something something" and sync this library or something Thanks Any help?
You have two problems here. FIrst you want to transfer your save data from iPhone to iPod. And second, you want to change the computer you sync your iDevice with. I dont really have personal experience with any of the situation so cant be 100% sure. First back up your iPhone on your regular computer(the one you currently use to backup your iPhone). Then plug in the iPod and restore it in iTunes using the iPhone`s backup. Dont see any reason why it shouldnt work. As far as changing the computer is concerned, I myself have been looking for that solution for quite a few days now. Any help by anyone will be greatly appreciated here.
I can do that but I don't think it is working on the new computer. I'm going to try the home sharing build and try to sync the iPhone to it. It might sync and maybe I can create a backup with the saved data on the new computer- it needs its original library data collection. Thank you for the response, been at this for hours...
Why not try to set up the new iPod using the old computer first. Atleast you`ll get the iPhone backup on the new iPod.
I tried that with the iPhone and tried to sync it through the new computer, doesn't work.. Hmm. I'll try your method if the home share thing doesn't work. EDIT: The home sharing does not work. I cannot get the saved files that I'd transferred. I guess I am going to lose all my data (saved data from the applications). If I sync the new iPod to the old computer and get the saved data, which I think I will, I won't be able to have the saved data if I start syncing on the new computer..
I`m assuming both your computers are on the same OS and using same iTunes version(if not then upgrade iTunes to make sure both are same version). In that case you can simply copy the whole of iTunes library from the old computer to the new one. After that your iPhone/iPod will think it`s the same computer only and will sync with the new one without deleting the old data. Problem solved But you`ll need to google and find out which files you should copy and transfer to make sure the whole of iTunes + Backups do get moved to the new computer. I forgot about this earlier as it`s a solution which wont work in my case.(The HDD crashed and there`s no way to retrieve that iTunes data now). But it should work in your case without any trouble.
Tried sending the files over to the new computer, its not working. I guess I will lose the saved data..
