    Hey Everyone,

I'm very happy to work for a company that develops a word jumble game called BABEL WORDS for the iPhone/iPod Touch. If you have a chance, you should check it out.

For those of you who love word jumble games, sodoku, scrabble, or crossword puzzles, this is a game that should be added to your app library. It uses 10 levels where you build bronze, silver and gold towers from the points earned from the development of words. There is a time challenge and you can post your scores against other BABEL WORDS players.

It's a great looking game, fun to play, whether you're trying to kill time, stimulate the mind, or just love good games for you're iPhone, "word buff" or not.

Check out the game by searching "Babel Words" into the search engine at the iTunes website, I promise you won't regret it.

Have a great day and enjoy playing on the amazing iPhone.

    B

Seems like a less frenzied version of Word-Fu. I might check this out. But for $3.99 I don't know how many'll be willing to take the plunge :(

    Welcome to the forums!

Actually 3.99 is very cheap considering that DS and PSP games are $30 and don't offer much more than what we're seeing in the app store. Don't listen to the cheapskates here. You time and energy is worth a measly $3.99

The game needs some updates, performance improvements and bugfixes. I hate buying games that don't get ongoing support by the developer.

I don't personally share that point of view (in case that's what you're thinking), but it is true that a lot of people are cheapskates. However, if this game continues getting good reviews, you can almost guarantee that we Touch Arcaders will give be a good chunk of your customers.

    You tried it already?

DS games usually fall into 3 categories. 1) Fun, polished titles that are actually worth the $20-30 you spend on it. 2) Titles that are good but have bad bugs or glitches. 3) Titles that are absolute garbage ie "shovelware" that are worth no more than the box they come in.

You cannot compare DS games to iPhone games. Ask the dev how much money he spent on advertising and product manufacturing.

The shovelware games aren't worht $20-30 but the games like Advance Wars are. If you want to compare a top iPhone game to a top DS game, then try titles like PuzzleQuest that actually give you an entire game.

For those lazy folks out there (you know who you are), here's an AppShopper link: http://appshopper.com/games/babel-words

I'm a bit surprised that this game is resurfacing after almost 4 months. Do the developers have something new coming out, or are they just hoping to squeeze out a few more sales on this puppy? It seems like with 15 weeks and only 24 reviews under its belt this game could use a bit of a push. Maybe a temporary price drop or contest or something? And to stop what I can already see as being a ridiculous discussion, I'm not trying to mooch a promo code. The truth is: (1) I already have a lot of games I need to play and review, and (2) if I really wanted a code I'd just write directly to the developer and ask them. I'm just suggesting that they need to do something to try and get this game into more gamers' hands.

And do we really need to turn EVERY thread into a discussion about price point - epsecially vs. DS and PSP? I'm getting so sick of hearing about that stuff. I think there's a thread dedicated to this very subject, so go bellyache over there.

Could you please expand on this some? I've been looking at this game for a long while but some reviews complain of game being slow and not much else so held off.

Well said! I agree. It seems nearly every thread has a post from someone complaining about the price of a game and or asking for a price drop.

I really enjoy word games, particularly when they try to do something a little different. Something that makes them stand out from all the similar word games. Have you purchased this game? Can you comment further or provide more information on the game needing updates, performance improvements and bugfixes? I'm interested in the game but I'm hesitating if it needs updates, performance improvements and bugfixes.

Just so the wrong people don't jump on this, I did mention a potential price drop. However, I wasn't specifically asking for it. I was just offering a suggestion that might help them increase interest. I'd go into my reasoning for the statement, but then I'd be doing the same thing I asked other people not to do. sigh...

Thanks to everyone for your response to the post regarding BABEL WORDS.

I appreciate all of the input about the game, here are some responses to some of your comments.

In regards to the price- $3.99, there is plans to put a LITE version out there for you to test out, hopefully very soon so those of you looking at purchasing this game can give it a test run.

Some of your posts involve some of the reviews running slow and getting the bugs out. This is being worked on as well, it runs pretty well right now, but there is always room for improvement when it comes to making the game easy to play so everyone can enjoy it.

This game is doing very well overseas, and part of the reason for my promotion of the game was to give it more exposure to other places, primarily the U.S. So the game has been around for a while and has been doing very well, but there is always room for improvement.

Visiware is also developing another game for the iPhone, so keep your eyes open for that, I will try and update as I learn more myself.

I hope you guys get a chance to test it out, and if you have, please give it a review, the more reviews the better.

    I appreciate everyones comments.

    Have a great one

Some people asked for more details:

    - Poor performance: The tiles don't react quick enough if you tap them. This is annoying, especially for a time based game. You can't enter the words as fast as they get to your mind. The menu and scrolling animation at the beginning of each round is not fluid.

    - Bugs: Bonus multiplicatiors don't stick to a letter. If you reshuffle the letters the bonus multiplicator moves to a different letter. To score as high as possible you have to reshuffle a lot to avoid using the bonus early and save it to use all multiplicators at once with the longest word. This results in shaking the device multiple times (sometime 10+ times) before you can spell a word without using the bonus to early. This "bonus moving" behavior can't be on purpose - if it is, it's very bad game design.

Updates: The game is still V1.0 - the developer didn't care for the app for several months; at one of the highest price points for a word game there should be more than 1 playmode, constant improvements and dialog with it's users

    - The dictionary isn't the best either. Many obscure words.

Overall it doesn't feel good enough to justify the high price. There are a lot of better word games for $1-$2.

    wow

that sounded pretty clear and to the point :) i was interested in this title, thanks for your honesty.

  15. My favorite anagram game is Muddled $2 and you can click on word at end of game for definition (no internet connection needed) dictionary definitions are bundled in it. TextTwist Turbo isn't too bad either although if you like it just showing you 1/2 (5 letter words) although word list is two taps away. Chicktionary Lite I absolutely hated. There are probably 10+ anagram games currently on the appstore.

Not sure what reasons for not liking the lite version of Chicktionary......I didn't try it, I have the full version. But just thought to mention that the full version had recent updates that show the missed words now and some other updates that possibly be reasons for your dislike of the game. These updates might not be in the lite version
..........not trying to persuade you to buy the full version or anything.....but just thought to mention it.

i'd like to know more about texttwist turbo. it's the gere namesake and only a buck. cant find a single gameplay video and it wasn't part of the texttwist clones roundup :) i think my wife would like it but i'm tired of paying for garbage and that first review that reads...

"I've played TextTwist. I know TestTwist. This is NO TextTwist."

yeah, that makes it tough to pay for without reading or watching a decent review (which i can't find).

Apparently, they didn't put a timer in it! Now, I'm not fan of timers in general, but this is freaking TextTwist. The point of the game is to move quickly. Until they add this feature, I'm not even considering buying. Also, it doesn't seem like they list the words you've already used.

I don't know why a developer would bother calling a game by a certain name if they weren't going to be true to it. Really? No timer?! Wow.

Granted TTT isn't timed and that would take away some gamers purpose for buying it. But only issue since the updates is the popup window asking if want to continue w/ game onto next level and having to tap 2x to stay in original level. Other than this I find the game enjoyable. More of a review under Coldar on iTunes.
