Something along the lines of "you can get and upgrade weapons later on, but you'll be bored by then". Again, nothing that indicates they actually spent time with the game. How are you liking it, EP?
I dig PG mainly for their writing but I've seen some strange reviews come out of it in the past. Super Hexagon got a 7/10 but was written up as quite average. This is another odd one. I think it would be a heavy move rating anything under 5/10 that has an obvious amount of polish and thought gone into it. You can bicker over gameplay or direction but if there is a distinct attempt at quality then the game deserves 50% IMO
Isn't 7/10 the same thing as quite average? Or you think 5/10 means average? But yeah, anyway you slice it no game that is of this caliber deserves such a low rating. Thanks metalcasket for answering my questions.
I'm Predator biased but they get all the varied cool weapons. Gotta say I love the whip over the blades. Wide range and you can "pull" people in for executions rather than having to be right next to them. Killing multiple enemies all surrounding you at once is pretty sweet
Was me. I keep coming back to this game and I really like it. There's a ton of variety and the game really opens up the more you play. The early chapters are a bit 'huh?' But once you get into it it's very cool. I think it's safe to say that if you're like me and enjoy third person action games like Shadowgun you'll really enjoy this
Modojo seems to have done a proper review that they invested time in to it. They do give it a 4 out of 5 and they obviously like the game. It is a very good game that simply requires a little bit of time invested in it at the start to open it up and get past the learning curve. Easily well worth a look. Here's the review as it says it all much clearer than me. http://www.modojo.com/reviews/2013-02-28-avp-evolution
OK so I think everyone can agree here that this is a "good" game if you put a little time in. Would we also agree with Racer 007 that this a possible flaw in the games design? I mean I turn down a novel if I'm not caught within the first chapter. If it takes me till level 6 of an ios game for it to start showing its true colours than I think there is an unnecessary learning curve. In the generation of tweets and single file music downloads surely we know by now that the hook has to be pointy?
im a big alien fan! i think that this game is going to be much better that the colonial marines... im going to buy it.
Great review and yeah, it's quite obvious they've actually played the game, rather than throwing out a review a couple of hours after launch just for the sake of it. That's the funny thing...whether it was my initial comments, those of Exact Psience or Connectors, we really didn't scratch the surface of the game before making them. I still haven't come across the net from Predator 2! Looks like we're all guilty of jumping to conclusions too soon. Obviously others may feel differently though. Now that I've put some time into the game, I've come to the conclusion that I don't regret the purchase at all and can wholeheartedly recommend the game at it's current price...just with a warning to others that you'll need to be a tad bit patient (an extra half an hour won't kill you, you know) till you get to the delicious chewy center of the game. *scurries off to play before girlfriend comes home*
I think I'm about halfway in and haven't even come close to needing to buy any IAP. Hell, I don't think I've even needed to upgrade a single thing (even though I have). I guess I could say the game's generous enough with handing out currency, but you can replay levels to earn more if you need to.
alien has something called rage mode, that changes the camera for a short time and gives the alien increased damage and damage resistance, but I don't think there's anything beyond that for alien vision.
Plus you can gain a crap load of honor points Just get the wolf set and stay cloaked forever and do side mission 4 I believe the one with the timer Apart from the invisible shotgun dudes nothing can see you And with your overpowered disk (last one you buy) everything is easy to kill anyways)
I am just glad most of you who bought it come to common sense and actually went playing game for more than 3 levels, not just complaining about gameplay and shuffling it aside after some initial impressions ( modojo review will help pursuade more of you to buy it hopefully ). Just have to add to my initial impressions - I am in love with predators gadgets ! Having 10 marines enter dark room and predator turning thermal sight and cloaking on is awesome, not to mention with upgraded wolf armor and locking them with dual plasma guns while still cloacked.Standing near frightened marines that run around trying to find me and taking them out one by one with blades and slicing boomerang.Classical movie experience with predator , unfortunately I can say same for alien experience. Camera is still a bit of pain even on auto, but I got used to it. I got bug with 2 marines with miniguns on platform in Lv 6 ( I think) , when you have to circle around boxes and kill couple of marines to get to that platform with that 2 guys with miniguns, they appear as white flashing polygons ( have it on pic but don't know how to attach it here ).Also game crashed at that point twice.Maybe a memory leak ?
That will happen it a few places more where it's the white flashing stuff, least that was the first time I encounted it as well..... And expect the game to crash a few more times as well, had a few of those after that point as well kinda annoying but nothing truly upsetting
I am maybe an hour in, just unlocked the first Predator side mission. So far I cannot complain about the rate at which I earn currency. Graphics look good enough and run smooth. Really liking the game up to now, hope it continues like this. Issues I had so far (@GuerillaBob: you still reading?): 1) Camera: Sometimes does weird stuff, like others mentioned already. Especially the "see through the wireframe model" thing is annoying. 2) I second the request for an autolock on opponents. That would help immensely. Especially if you could switch it on/off. Also, a "return camera behind you" button would be nice. 3) Can only say this for the first plasma gun, but it is extremely hard to aim properly. Twice, I even missed at point blank range. Autoaim, please? Or at least a good aim assist. 4) Some combos are very difficult to do, most notably the AAB one, both for the Alien and Predator. As far as I can tell, you need to hit the buttons with the right timing. Personally I prefer the "no timing needed, just hit the sequence" approach e.g. "The Gods:Rebellion" uses. Maybe make that toggleable, so players can decide if they want an extra challenge or take it easy?
This just sold me on the game. I was already pretty sure, but holy sh@t. Straight out of my beloved Predator movie memories... and onto MY PHONE. Again, . Thanks for the imps! DBC
