Ah man, I hate not recommending games I love but it does sound like you wouldn't like it. If anything, it's a little more vague that Baldur's Gate, it's certainly very old fashioned - intentionally, but that probably won't change it for you.

Pretty sure it's gone back up in price now but Avernum 6 has just gone on sale for £1.99, so a bit cheaper if you're feeling adventurous :)

If you want an easy UI, play the Kemco JRPGs. Those are very simple to use.

Avernum's UI is ok, but the plot is not as complex as Baldur's Gate. Get Avadon if you want plot. Play Escape from the Pit if you want exploration.

Looks like it would be better to play Avadon first and then Scape From the Pit. I'll try to give Baldurs Gate one more chance since it was updated.

I just finished a Avernum last night. 30+ hours. Minus some annoying UI issues, it was a real pleasure. Lovingly crafted American rpg! I personally can't stand JRPG random encounters.. so this was a real breath of fresh air.

On sale again, people. Same price cut. Do I finally pick this up now? Been on my wishlist about a year...

Go for it, the Avernum games are great. Or even better, wait till it's back to full price and buy then, more than deserves the 10 bucks ;)
