How do avatars work at MacRumors? I say, if that works well, go for it I assume it's the same as signatures and posts: there are content guidelines. You don't have to get things pre-approved, but if you break a rule, a mod will probably catch you.
I didn't read through this thread, but if the reason we don't have avatars is to save bandwidth for this site, all you have to do is enable off-site linking.
I kind of thought the issue was server related but I didn't take into account moderation too. Some forums do use a collection of preset avatars to keep the hit on the server to a minimum and also that solves the moderation issue. Aren't the Profile Pictures on here moderated?
