Aww thanks! One of the reasons why we went for limited build sites was to try and get players to spread out and fight all over the map. I felt that in a war, the objective is usually to take and hold territory-- but the more territory you hold, the more thinly spread your forces are, and the more easily the enemy can go guerilla and needle your weaknesses and turn the tide of battle. In many RTS games I played, it was possible to turtle by concentrating buildings and defenses in a single area, then sallying forth once I had enough units to attack-- the only reasons why I would expand or spread out were because I was running out of resource in my main base, or I wanted to capture victory points. Victory points which switch sides fluidly based on time felt like they didn't have as much investment or loss as actually spending time and resource to construct a building, while we also wanted to keep the game simple for touchscreens by reducing the need to manage peons. The approach we finally adopted was to have fixed build sites: players needed to expand to increase their power (unit cap or their rate of resource or mana generation), yet to do so they would need to spread out their forces to defend a larger area (which would create weaknesses for the enemy to attack). Plus, having limited sites would also force players to make a decision about what to do with each build site: if they needed to improve their economy they could place a farm or a camp; or they could trade that earning opportunity for defense instead, by building a fort or a tower...
I finally picked this up!!! Been playing for the past hour or so. Does seem a little light in terms of getting the message across to newbies, so I had to take some time to figure out. Also, the fact I jumped right in to NORMAL may not have helped. I played I think 4 levels, and the 4th was pretty drawn out. I lost 38 units, the enemy lost 35. This was the one where I had to capture their secret weapon (canon). I am slowly grasping the concept. Is certainly deep and will not appeal to everyone. But since I like this genre, I will keep playing. The controls are pretty good - circle to multi-select, drag to move, hold to stop....they work good and are intuitive. The special attacks take some time to fully master. As do the strength/weakness of each unit. I love the art style, ancient China feel (are you guys Singaporean or Chinese?) and music. But the music seems to die off in the menus and sometimes during the game, which is the only negative I can think of! No IAPs = freaking win. Played on iPad 2. Encountered just the once force close. Looks like a winner and this may well just sneak into my Top 10 iOS games of the year at the last moment!! PS: How many missions are there in total?
Good to hear. Really wasn't expecting this on the small screen! Bought'd. Plus if it's Bulkypix handling it there's a chance it might come to Android, too... love to see it on my Nexus 10.
We're Singaporean! To be specific, I'm Peranakan and not entirely Chinese, but I think a lot of cultures blend out here... There are 10 missions with this campaign, but we've tried to keep all of them unique! After that, there's a skirmish mode against the AI, and internet multiplayer-- mastering the special abilities and being able to use them in combination with each other would help there.
Mother of God! Amazing stuff from a developer right in my backyard. Keep it up. A lot of people find this to be a top class game and I hope your future undertaking are equally successful and creative.
Aww thanks-- didn't realise you were from here too! Ravenmark isn't too far away at Tanjong Pagar, if you're into turn based strategy games. The other question is... why are we all up at 3am in the morning?
fernfreak, thanking me for moving the thread? As we say in Lebanon: "Walaw!" Haha, don't mention it. I'll admit I've never been an RTS person and I know next to nothing about how to play them, but this looks too gorgeous to just ignore. I hate that I'm actually asking this, but is it easy for an RTS n00b to get into?
Was wondering the same thing. Most of the RTS games I've played have been on the more casual side like Ameobattle. Got Land Air Sea Warfare a few weeks ago on sale and was completely overwhelmed. Haven't really touched it since.
I've been waiting for a universal release since this first came out. Have already downloaded and can't wait to get a chance to play. My only purchase this week and that is fine by me. Big thank you to the devs for bringing this over to iPhone.
Well I have to say this was the first ipad only game I downloaded for my new ipad a couple of weeks ago, and since then I've played some of the story mode and loved it but the new update is brilliant as I'm loving the new blitz mode, I even installed it on my iPod touch 4G and its pretty impressive that it works nearly the same on the smaller screen. Over all this is my favourite iOS rts. Well worth the full price that I paid.
Just grabbed it. Very excited to play through the campaign and online. So glad it's universal now. Huge RTS addict here. Looks like this might the only game I grab tonight.
I like the new changes in Autumn. The technology research system in particular makes the Empire tree more valuable. The first ability (that reduces the cost of buildings) is more valuable early on, when I typically engage in a lot of construction. It makes pumping out a few farms cheaper and makes the economy route more viable. fernfreak: I was wondering about future campaigns and new factions/units. I asked a few questions in the "development" thread, but it's unlikely anyone is going to see it now. One of the other developers said that you might answer some questions about it. Here's my post again: Do you plan to continue the Autumn Dynasty campaign after this patch? I would really like to see some new missions/story content. Maybe some news factions, or just small things that differentiate the various factions. While the story in the current campaign was pretty much resolved it ended Spoiler foreshadowing a larger conflict . Where will you go with that? Spoiler Is it a rebirth of the rebellion under the scholar who inherited all of the rebel leader's armor? Are the White Devils going to come back? Also what's the deal with Spoiler Radiant Ming? He was kind of a dick and we never really learn why he is so shifty.
There was a novice mode added after quite a few people complained about the difficulty in the initial release. I hadn't any problems with it myself, and especially after you can now save and load back any point in the game, it shouldn't be too hard.
