It's a bug, happened to me too, and we shouldn't be able to climb up those cliffs. There are actually quite a few options you have to take out those defensive positions, you can use a pair of catapults together, have one use Flare to reveal the terrain and the other Bombard (works on units), or use the Smoke ability along with or in replacement of the Shield ability for protection and so on. Also your troops deal less damage if they are not at full strength, so that might account for your speed? I've been doing almost the same thing and I honestly didn't find it slow.
Finally finished the campaign and unlocked all of the skirmish maps yesterday. It's great to see the developer frequently update this, can't wait for version 1.3.

Well, Touch dimensions have already announced they are working on the "Conquest of the Central Plains Expansion" via their twitter feed.

Is it just me, or does the main guy from the app icon look eerily similar to a muscle-y Dante Hicks from the movie Clerks?
It would be nice seeing the opponents name during the game in multiplayer. And it needs improving the multiplayer. Many many times I accept and then it disconnects again... Sometimes I thin I have to restart the app to get better results.
I heard the update is waiting be approved by apple since over a week. (They are slower than a unit of horsemen in the wood.)
Can't believe apple takes so long to approve an update, and especially an update that has so many badly required fixes and improvements. According to the devs on their website, the update was submitted on or before the 29th of June.
What I was talking about was not only about "usual" updates with various tweaks, improvements and bug fixes (wich is also quite cool, actually) but also new content. We're actually thinking about some cool stuff to develop with Touch Dimensions but we can't talk about it just right now So stay tuned (I'm sure you already are ^^) and don't hesitate to continue to give us some feedback. Thanks a lot for the update and the new skirmish map. It is great fun and gives lot of opportunity to exercise with different units and strategies. Right after the update I had a game and I won. My opponent surrendered. As I was confirming the victory, the app crashed. After restart I checked the leaderboard and I didn't see my victory there. (after some hours I checked again and I saw; I am leading the leaderboard, lol. It won't be for long) But this leads me to my question: - what happens if a opponent just disconnects before I could win? Since the update I had two app crashes, the second was while sending a friend request after a game.
