Itunes link: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/discover-truthful-china-past/id431449670?mt=8&uo=4 Here is a short description of China. It might help on the journey. •Diversity--China is the largest nation in population and one of the four biggest countries in territory in the world. Contrary to the popular view, it boasts a cultural, geographical and ethnic diversity. •Openness -- China used to be quite open and globalized, say, in the Tang and the Soong Dynasties (more than 1,000 years ago). Today’s China, after the 30 years’ open-doorism, has presented a picture of a bustling and open country. •Popularity-- China, as one of the four biggest ancient civilizations, is the only one uninterrupted old civilization which has lasted till today. That’s the reason why the outsiders usually regard China as the model of ancient Oriental culture. However, today’s China is much more than the image of the four ancient inventions and silk, tea and porcelain. The popular culture of this country, which is integrated into the historic heritages, also attracts people from near and afar.
This app reminds me of some of the China-sponsored travel ads that i have been seeing lately on TV. (Visit Chengdu! Where pandas live!) I think a major drawback is that it takes so long for the videos to load, and I have a pretty fast connection. I'd like to see some videos of southwestern China-- Lijiang, Yangshuo-- as well as Beijing, of course. Good luck!
Thanks for the suggestion. Have you used our app already? We are still working on how to speed up the download rate and another new version is in review, which might be released this week. Have a nice journey with our app!
Updating Version 1.1 is just uploaded. It takes less time to download each site, which is complete now and where more information is added, for example, the pronunciation of observable signs in Chinese. Much is there for you to discover.
The latest version comes next week! The download rate is about 5 times as fast as the previous version, and the total number of sites reaches 25. Have a enjoyable journey.
yeah, that's true! I've been to Yangshuo, many foreingers from all over the world and a cool pub street there.
Are all sites free within the app only for a limited time or once you view a site does it remain free, even after the promotion ends?
Thanks for your question. Each site is only temporarily free, and later version will not, since we will add more details and new functions.
Are cities such as Shanghai and Beijing planned for future versions? Also, will in-app purchases sell areas by region or individual cities?
I figured I might as well leave some feedback while asking questions. I really like the idea this app has of virtually visiting China since I would really like to go there (and have plans to hopefully go in the not-so-distant future). Pros: Beautifully detailed pictures. It was such a pleasant surprise to find out that not only could you advance in photos as if you were walking but that they are panoramic shots and that you can turn 360 degrees and see everything around you as if you were there! One thing that would be a big plus would be if you could pinch the screen to zoom in. The detail certainly seems to have more than enough high definition detail to handle zooming in closer. Another pro point is the fact that you have both video and pictures. There are two suggestions that I have in regard to this. One is that it is very tedious and time consuming to scroll around on the Google maps trying to see where there are icons to click on that have information. It would be much better if there was an option, such as an on-screen icon to list what cities are available to view. Not only that but it would be helpful if under each city it listed what destinations within the city you could view and separated them into the categories of photographs only and videos only. Cons: As others have pointed out there is heavy lag when clicking onto a destination until the video or photos load. It took a really long time even on a broadband connection. If this is the speedup-up version, I shudder to think what the previous version was like. Once you are watching a video it is not very clear how to get back to the main screen. A home button icon or something to that effect would be helpful.
Really appreciate your constructive feedback. Sites around other cities like Beijing and Shanghai will definitely be introduced in later versions, since they have their own Chinese features. As to in-app purchase, we probably still charge by site, and the fee depends on how much information you will learn from each site. As you have pointed out, we also realize that it is really a big problem that the slow download speed makes the journey discontinuous even on a broadband connection. We have been working on solving this drawback these days. You advice is fairly meaningful, and we will do some adjustments to the design for more clarity and convenience. Thank you.
