Another update is out that adds Open Feint intergration and more control tweaks. While there have been some complaints about this app, you really cant argue that they haven't been supporting it. I'm personally very happy with it, and have no regrets about buying the full app. EDIT: I tried out some of the new controls and they are great! There are a TON of control options for most of the games now. I hope retro lovers give this some respect now.
Honestly, I don't know how you can say they don't have enough VCS games, there are a TON of them. I guess you could argue that there aren't better titles, but a lot of the "premium" 2600 titles were by companies other than Atari (Activision for example) which wouldn't license them for this. As for being poor, I disagree. There are a lot of great titles here, and with the new control systems available, very playable. As I've stated before, this collection may not do much for younger gamers, but as someone who obsessively collected 2600 games when they were new, to have this collection on my phone is a dream come true.
I agree completely. I think that this collection is for those of us who played the 2600 games many years ago. It would be great to get the Activision games (River Raid, Pitfall), but that's probably a licensing issue.
I love 2600 games but just feel there's not many classics in the app. Shame the licensing for the Activision games can't get sorted. The controls are better though I must admit
New update is out. Million dollar question is for users that got all the games for free, will we lose this capability after updating? I'm really scared of updating cause I don't want to lose all the games. But I hate having programs that I can't upgrade due to not being able to do an update all in itunes. Anyone upgraded yet?
Connector, Good point. psj3809, The Activision games are what us old-timers want to see, no question! WAITING!!!!!!
Everytime i see an update for this app i get excited thinking theres more games but no ! I'm sure theres tons of difficult licensing issues but still i wish we could get more Anyway i've updated so just checking So you get the initial intro screen by the programmers. Then a new screen which mentions token play and how that works. Underneath it says 'already purchase games?' (Shouldnt that be purchased ?) Anyway says for unlimited play for any game on any device click on restore purchases under the game list. Looks like i didnt have to restore purchases, for Asteroids it had 'quick play' or 'unlimited play' buttons, tested that out and it ran fine and didnt nag me for a 'gameplay token' or anything. 'Presume' if i hadnt got all the machines it would then have a button saying 'play for 1 token etc' So dont worry oooooomonkey and others, it seems fine ! Ran it a second time and that page about freeplay etc didnt appear. Only moan is obviously more games (Same for Midway Arcade which is a great app but needs more packs)
I don't understand how some people can be so cheap. If you care enough to play 30-year-old home video games, surely you'd be willing to pay the asking price to unlock them? I gave them the original $15 at launch just so I don't have to worry about these things. Yes, many of the best Atari VCS games are licensed from other companies. It seems pretty clear Atari isn't going to try to get them. We still have lots of Namco and Capcom stuff elsewhere, and Pitfall is coming from Activision. Buy that when it comes out (instead of complaining if it costs two dollars) and maybe they will make more.
Updated for iOS 8. Game downloads are working again, and it seems stable. Also, no problem restoring my previous "unlock all" purchase.
Not only did the update fix iOS 8 compatibility, but the app is now has retina graphics and is optimized for the iPhone 5, 6 and 6+! Great update!
yay - cheers for posting. Downloading the games again now. Having to do it one by one. Cheeky little banner advert that I hope disappears in game. quick edit: yep, only banner ad in menu. I'm hoping they replaced openfeint with game center but I think that may just be wishful thinking on my part.
