    So here's an update. After some emailing back and forth with Atari's lawyer, I agreed to make changes to the game that were approved by them. Basically, as an independent developer, I dont have the time or money to deal with this. Any amount of time I spend fighting this would be time I cant be programming or designing, or anything else that would actually be worth my time. And, as long as their demands for changes werent too unreasonable I was willing to consider them. Luckily we could agree on changes that I felt were still appropriate to my art style and looked good, and actually werent radical changes so overall pretty reasonable. For me, it was worth to make the changes to free myself up to move on and resume working on what I want to be working on, and not dealing with legal matters.

    I can post screenshots later when I get a chance.

    I'm just happy the game will remain on the App Store. Glad to hear that things seem like they'll work out alright after the potential disaster, Owens. Looking forward to seeing the screenshots and the new update (with the new IAP game mode, of course).

    Once I upload the new update to Apple tomorrow I'll do some screenshots and put them up here.

    Here's some screenshots of the new asteroid and ship graphics.

    One thing to note is that the asteroids are now actually 3D objects, but flat-shaded and with the white outlines rendered around them. So, they look 2D, but the outline shape changes as the asteroids rotate and as the camera moves.

    Doesn't look half bad :)

    I hope we keep experiencing the present version's smooth frame-rate.

    I love the asteroid shading idea; good to see that something cool has resulted from all this.

    What device(s) do you have? I tested on my old iPhone 3G (same CPU as original iPhone) and the framerate was still playable, although granted not as smooth as on my iPhone 4. I'd be surprised though, if anyone around this forum still uses anything much older than a third gen iPod Touch-level device.

    I'm not sure about the number, but a few fairly high-profile members, such as Crex and syntheticvoid I believe, are still using third gens. I agree though, older ones are most probably not worth your consideration.

    I rock on an iPad 1st gen, personally.

    Yeah I hardly ever bust out my 3G for testing these days. Usually I just test on my iPhone4 and Ipad1. Part of the reason is that actually Apple has done a great job with compatibility, so I'm always almost certain that stuff will work on any device if they work on my iPhone4. Well... also it's because my 3G's battery life is so bad that it only lasts for a bout a day (of just sitting there) before the battery dies. So mostly it just sits on my desk collecting dust.

    @AlienSpace

    As a developer, you'd do well to keep your 3G at arm's reach. Always handy to be able to test on actual hardware when bug reports fly in. Also keeps you grounded in reality when comparing app performance, if you care. :)

    Completely agree. For future projects however that'll likely change. Right now I'm working on a new render/game engine, but that will probably no longer support anything before the 3GS... so no more fixed-function rendering. That means that my poor old 3G might no longer even be useful even for collecting dust on my desk. =)

    Over the last year i have been making sure to test on my 1st gen iPod touch because it was iOS 3 and needed to make sure the weak linking for Game Center worked.
