So I bought a 3GS this past Sunday, November 1st. I've been wanting a frickin' 3GS since they came out... but my upgrade wasn't until Nov 1st. I went to 3 different AT&T wireless stores trying to schmooze them into letting me get it early; no dice. They all said Nov 1. So on November 1st, this past Sunday, hungover, I went to the AT&T store to get my 3GS, at 11am, right when the store opens on Sunday. I was more excited than a kid on Christmas morning. Being hungover I completely forgot about Daylight savings time and so had to wait an extra hour until they opened. I tried getting my upgrade and these frickin' bastardos tell me that Nov 1st is NOT my upgrade date... it's not until April 2010 WTF! I argued with the manager for 45 minutes, made him call another store to verify... No mother freaking dice. I left went to another store and they told me the exact same thing, no upgrade until April 2010. I was so freaking furious but there was no way in hell I was waiting another 6 freaking months until April. I had literally been counting the days since July... I know, I'm lame but I really wanted this damn phone. So I forked out $500 bucks and bought the 32 gigger straight up. I could have freaking bought it for 500 bucks months ago! So whatever, I get it, it ROCKS! I'm happy, don't care about the upgrade, everything is all good. It's lighting fast, just works perfectly, and I was stoked... I jailbroke it, loaded it the hell up with 22 gigs of data! All my games and apps, lot of music, videos, photos, yeah baby I was set. I bought a bunch of jailbreak apps from Cydia store too. Many of those I had already purchased on my old 3g but they were tied to device, not account. Took me damn near the entire Sunday to get everything set up, synced, backed up, jailbreak stuff backed up, theme customized, all apps and jailbreak utilities settings customized, etc. It was a lot of work until I was finally satisfied. Then today (3 days later) I notice I'm not getting any responses to the text messages I've sent out. Then I noticed I hadn't gotten a single text message since Saturday. Weird. I texted all my friends, my chick, asked them to please text me back if they got this. I'm not Mr. Popular or anything but usually I get a few, at the very least my girlfriend sends me a couple every day. So I waited till she got off work, took her phone and proceeded to text about 15 messages back and forth across both our phones to test it out. No dice. So WTF! I start getting worried. If I happen to have gotten a faulty phone and I have to restore this mofo, get a replacement, and do the whole damn song and dance again, including re-purchasing those paid Cydia apps, I was thinking it'd be easier to just shoot myself. So I call ATT wireless support and tell them my problem. The guy tells me in 10 seconds what the problem was. When I bought the new phone, they accidentally turned off my messaging plan............... Am I happy it was an easy fix? you betcha. am I pissed off beyond all belief? you betcha. After this bs I am seriously considering canceling with ATT, getting T-mobile and just unlocking my phone. ATT SUCKS!
You know, I wasted 5 minutes of my life reading this, and I want those 5 minutes back. Thanks. PS: I don't think you needed to get that mad.
LoL but I prefer that these youngsters let their angst out in this forum rather than kick a cat or something.
Hey thanks smart@$$, wanna really see me get mad. I'm going to keep those 5 minutes but I do sympathize you lost 5 minutes of prime spanking time
Who the hell is a youngster? I'm 26. Edit: and since when do 'youngsters' have $500 at their disposal?
reminds me of dell's customer support. HORRIBLE i like my iphone, but the coverage just sucks, so back to verizon for me
^yeah that! Your overreacting for nothing, you could have easily called 611 and asked them when you can upgrade instead of arguing like a child for no reason. AT&T accidentally turned off my messaging plan when I got my 3G replaced. 611 fixed it in less than 2 minutes. About your T-Mobile threat to AT&T lol, didn't you hear today T-Mobile network was down all day!? "T-Mobile customers may be experiencing service disruptions impacting voice and data. Our rapid response teams have been mobilized to restore service as quickly as possible. We will provide updates as more information is available."
K first of all it's you're overreacting. 2nd of all, did you miss the part where I went to three stores and they all said Nov 1st. How is calling 611 better than going to a store? They are looking at the same screen Einstein.
You could have stayed home and called 611 instead of wasting time going to 3 stores... Your a genius! 1 store says no... 2nd store says no... mabye 3rd times a charm!! nope! LMAO
Once again, it's you're a genius. Learn some basic grammar before you question the intelligence of others. I can tell you are quite the genius yourself... sarcasm\ This does not take away from the fact that they said Nov 1st, up until I actually tried upgrading at which point they said April 2010. Calling 611 wasn't going to change that. I am not angry about wasting my time going to 3 stores, I am angry that they can't figure out something as simple as telling me my correct upgrade date.
you should have asked to renew your contract. I got my 3gs a few weeks ago for $200 by renewing for 2 more years even though the contract wasn't up until April 2010. Then again, I would have paid $500 to not have to use my Pantech Duo during the remaining time. Perhaps there was something with my original contract that allowed me to do this... or maybe it was my threat that "getting an iPhone is the only reason I have to stay here, and I can't afford to pay more than the discounted price" that did it. It does seem odd that they didn't let you upgrade for cheap though.
I don't know man... I really feel like I got ripped off, hence all the anger. I did have to renew for 2 more years anyways, even w/o the upgrade.
I found the hungover aspect of the post to be a lame attempt at adding depth to an otherwise dull anecdote. The characters were flat, the plot had more holes than swiss cheese, and for god's sake, learn some subtlety. You can't just go telling people how mad you were, that makes me angry! And the title could use work, it kind of gives away the ending. If I'd gone into reading this with maybe "AT&T Problem" or possibly something more vague, I don't know, like "Frustration", hell, maybe even something ironic and sarcastic like "I Just Love AT&T", I could have really gotten some feeling out of the revelation at the end about how mad you were. But as it stands, the pacing of the post was just off, it's all climax, no anticipation, no suspense. It ends almost as soon as it begins, with no resolution, I don't feel the protagonist really learned anything, he just came out more cynical and angry. I came into reading the post thinking "Well, this guy is mad" and came out "Well, yep, he's mad". Overall, it could use some work. Some interesting plot devices like Time Travel or a spunky side kick could have really livened up this post.
