Exactly. It sounds like it is outrageous that Ubisoft dares to charge the fortune of $5.00 for the game. Because we feel so entitlet is that mobile market is messed up. We get what we deserve, unfortunately.
Whether this is good or bad is irrelevant for me - this is the company who put out the Assassins Creed card game that I spent a lot of money on. Once interest waned in the game they shut down their servers and closed down the (online only) game entirely. They'll do the same again, for sure. They're all about the bottom line and if that means stiffing their loyal customers then so be it. Jamie
Yeah, this kind of thing happens all too often on mobile. That's one of the things I dislike the most about mobile gaming. It's way too temporary. But the more that temporary is accepted, the shorter game lifespans will probably have. But, on the plus side, this release has prompted me to download the older AC games, including the card game AC Recollection, and see if they still work. Thankfully, it looks like I can still play through the campaign... and somehow buy cards on the market? Anyway, I am glad this one still works. Were you referring to AC Memories or Recollection? It's a shame that both of them are no longer on the App Store.
If you want to own a game for life and expect a team to release compatibility updates for years you're going to need to spend more than a few dollars, sorry.
This doesn't just happen in mobile. It happens on PC. It happens on console. It's not mobile specific. This is the risk you take when you spend money in a fully online only game. many Facebook games do this all the time. I learned my lesson the hard way. I played a game called World At War on Facebook. I was actually one of the top players. We used Roger Wilco and coordinated attacks. I was really into it. I spent about $100 on the game. Well a hack came out and it got out of control and the devs gave up and shut the game down. I lost all of that money. This game is not the same. It's online only for the store and for the drm. If the game needed to be shut down they would just have to deactivate that and the game would work offline just fine. So I'm not too worried. Plus it's $5 and it's just really fun. Any game that is online only. That is online multiplayer only. Has a guaranteed shut down date the moment it is released. You have to know that when you start playing it. You play those types of games for enjoyment of the moment. If you spend money you have to go into it knowing the game could end tomorrow. This game isn't the samething. Billy
I'm still mad that Super Mario World hasn't been updated yet this year for my SNES. It's not fair. My parents paid good money for that back in 1990. This is ridiculous. I say we boycott Nintendo because of this.
Great point. Here are a few other games that people paid loads of money on (MUCH more than $5) that are shut down: City of Heroes, City of Villains, Asheron's Call 2, Darkeden, Earth and Beyond, Emil Chronicle Online, LaTale, The Legend of Ares, Matrix Online, Mythos, Phoenix Dynasty, Priston Tale, Rusty Hearts, Shadowbane, Soul of the Ultimate Nation, Star Wars Galaxies, StarQuest Online, Toontown Online, World of the Living Dead, Zu Online, and COUNTLESS other single player games that never received updates or are not longer supported.
So, you are bound to suffer. Because it is not economic viable for devs, specially the small ones, to update games for every single OS update that might break the game. Maybe iOS gaming is just not for you. Have you considered that? You want to feel like you are playing a modern vídeo game but it is not what mobile is at the momoment. Maybe most people that play on mobile don't want that, but small bite experiences. TA members, unfortunately, are not the majority of people who own cellphones and tablets. And you thinking that KOTOR is part of the problem, I don't know what to say. Some people don't seem to realize that. It is not economic viable at the moment, sadly, for most devs and publishers. That's not the same thing. If, and a big if, the cartdrige is still working, you don't need any kind of update to playing on any SNES console.
Sure, and I get that...but I was just making a point. I know comparing the 2 might seem silly, but I wasn't sure how else to compare. I see your point though.
You played Asherons call? I helped develop it. I still play it. Lol I worked for Microsoft from 1998 to 2000. I'm glad to see one person liked AC2 Ok this went way off topic. Back to topic now lol. I just had to say it. Billy
I thought my /end sarcasm was apparent... I am at a loss for words.... I have many PC games I purchased for Windows 98 that are probably no longer compatible in Windows 10... Of course that's just speculation because once I beat a game enough times, I usually forget about it as I'm sure you will with any dead .99 mobile purchases you've made
Glad you agree because all the rage on this post is just funny to read. The game is great. It has a good long playable time and you couldn't ask for. If you want more buy the console AC games and go play those. Don't play mobile games if you want a long time to play. I only have a iPhone 6s and I enjoy gaming on it because I don't want to sit in one spot for hours and play games that is just me though. Love all you guys and your opinions. If you need to preach your emotions do it.
If I ever win something like Powerball, I'm going to set aside a hefty chunk of money to play with. Part of that will include setting up trusts for people like fulcizombie so I can say, "Here you go, here's $1m startup capital, build a sustainable studio releasing games for 99 cents with lifetime updates." If nothing else, it'd be hilarious to watch.
