The example you give (the one from dictionary.com) illustrates my point very well: to paraphrase "You think their political influence is great. You are mistaken." To overrate means to rate incorrectly: that's not debatable -- it's right there in the freaking word, for crying out loud. It's just a more polite version of: "HEY this game blows ass, and you're all wrong if you disagree with me!"

Part of the reason I keep harping on that point is because -- unlike GTA:CW, which people were salivating about from the moment it was announced -- AC2 has been generally expected with mixed feelings by gamers. Go look at the now-locked upcoming game thread: half the people posting were damning Ubisoft for giving us an "inferior" version of the franchise. Some were even pining for the PSP version, which was pretty much universally panned but, glory to the lord, was actually in full 3D. Even after the game was released, I read very few "this is the best game ever" comments, though some of us expressed a deep appreciation for it as an action platformer -- a rarity in the App Store. Personally, I understand and accept that, for whatever reason, some people don't feel that way -- and I wouldn't start a thread called "AC2 is underrated?"

Anyway, I'm done with this subject.

Hmmm....Squarezero makes an interesting point. [Goes back and re-reads thread from the beginning to see if my earlier post was too hasty]

there's a difference between paraphrasing, and word twisting. that statement that was given as an example is blatantly set up as a personal opinion. there's a key difference between "i think you overrate their political influence," and "i know you overrate their political influence." you're taking it as if it's the latter, which it isn't. in this situation, a more proper paraphrasing would have been "i do not think their political influence is as great as you make it out to be." you continue to take opinions as if they're being stated as facts, when they're not at all. again, you should re-read the topic post. he welcomes all discussion on the subject and is open to the positive opinions. not once did he claim anybody was in the wrong. in fact, he even created a followup post to clear up this fact. it's not black and white "i'm right, you're wrong." it shouldn't be taken in such a way.

I actually thought it was a bit overrated at first, but after playing a bit more of it, I'm really liking it. My only complaint is that you go a bit fast sometimes during the stealth missions and can't drop down when in stealth mode from a ledge, forcing you to go too fast, but other than that I love this game. You can take more than one path through a situation, and see what works for you. For example, if you're trying to get by some guards, you can use the rooftops to avoid them, kill them in a face-to-face fight (which works surprisingly well for having only 1 combo), sneak up an assassinate them from behind, or hide in an environmental object like a bale of hay or a barrel, then sneak past when the guard turns their back. It's awesome, just too bad my iPod lags for some reason.

yeah i do like that they at least offered different situations with alternate means to get through them, and placed cover smartly throughout the levels. admittedly, i'm enjoying the rooftop running more than the stealth. which is a shame, because i too am suffering through some rough lag on my 2G which kills that awesome feeling you get when you really get up to speed. it almost gets to that sonic the hedgehog level adrenaline rush, but then the framerate begins to skip once you go too fast or come into contact with an enemy while running. good thing i'm upgrading come this september!

I'm actually getting more entertainment from stealth. Sneaking up and killing your opponent silently really is one of my favorite parts of the console games, and it translated well onto the iPhone. That and using counter-attacks in fights are just insanely fun. I'm glad I spent the $10 on it.

I started writing a long post about the word "overrated," but screw it -- let's just agree to disagree. In any event, I think the experience is very different on a 3Gs: those chase sequences are pretty awesome when they run without lag (though, like Somerandomdude, my favorite are the stealth levels).

Consider this game costs $30(or $40?) on Nintendo DS with inferior graphic. I'm really satisfied with this $10 game. Although I do hope there could be a 3D version of AC just as good as PSP version if not better(for 3GS or iTouch 3G). They can always tune down the graphic for other device. After all 3GS comes close to what PSP performs

Agreed the game runs beautifully on the 3gs. A real adrenaline rush gets me genuinely excited. Stealth, to be honest, gets boring for me; I have never had the patience to camp out in a place and wait for the guard to turn hiS back

Totally agreed. It can be argued that the PSP version can be sold at roughly $30 and still b worth it(better graphics and a reAl analog sticks add to the experience) but this is a much better version than available for the DS, and for a fraction of the cost. IMO, the idevice has become the most influential handheld gadget because of it's excellent prices, it's above average graphics, and the "funness" of it's touch screen. Nintendo and Sony better watch their backs or the idevice is gonna put them out of sales for their handheld gadgets

What disappointed me was that it's just a side scrolling fight game. Assasins Creed to me is about completing tasks or assasinations. Yes there were big fights but the whole game wasn't just endless sword fights.

I just filed for a refund!

I didn't think it would be this bad really, too samey, bad menu navigation, doesn't have good enough save features and I feel rushed to complete the levels so I just end up running through it, dodging as many people as possible. I mean why have a timer when doing stealth!? Surly taking ages should be rewarded... It also has nice backgrounds to make it feel more filled out, but the people are just fuzzy pixels, and they all pull the same pose.

I'm not sure why you filed for a refund......refunds are seldom(if ever) given out and you really have no reason to request a refund.....as long as the game is not crashing, you can not accuse the developers of making a bad game and demand your ten bucks back...you should have read the game description and reviews before buying...that's like goingto a restaraunt, buying and eating a burger, and then asking for a refund because the burger didn't taste good. It just doesn't make sense. I agree though that the game is not impressive

Agreed. And what makes it worse is that the fights were not particularly engrossing or brilliantly done

Well it was actually an accidental purchase but i thought I'd play it to see what it was like- if it was good I'd keep it, but it wasn't. And to be honest, the description is about 2 sentences long!

Just got an email back saying £5.21 has been paid back to me. Not the full amount, but I suppose I did get 78p worth of play from it!

    Right. Behind. You.
The feeling of being a super-slick secret assassin guy jumping across buildings through super-detailed 3d worlds appeals to most. It's nearly a free-roamer.

The only bad I see in it is the controls, which are too sensitive.
