Yeah, I'm using an iPod Touch 4th Gen. :(
    Thanks for helping me out.

    No problem.
As for experiencing multiplayer in this game, using an iPod Touch is possible.

Playing with friends in the same house using Wi-Fi is vastly superior to the online experience, as they haven't yet implemented a lobby system where we can choose who to compete against.

It's just not the same racing against a lot of random people.
Very, very fun, yes, but not the same.

    +1 +1 +1 +1 +1 +1 +1 +1 +1…

I can't believe it!!! You, Bytebrain, are the first one in the HUGE touchArcade community telling about experiences with local multiplayer mode in Asphalt 8!!! Our preferred mode (for some local friends and me). I really don't get it why this isn't more popular. I DON'T GET IT!

@touchArcade BIG BOSSES & CHIEF EDITORS! Dr. Arn, Eli, Jared! Good morning. Ever tried local multiplayer in an iOS racing game?

@Gameloft_Ryan: There MUST be a second or even third iOS device in your company with 4,000+ employees and €164.4 million revenue/year; get Asphalt 8 for FREE right now, the sale should last for some more hours! ;)

Please all of you: Try it, share your experiences and publish extensive reviews and videos! I know it's very hard and difficult to produce a good video with a local multiplayer demonstration but Gameloft could hire a professional director, camera&sound team, editor and studio. (AND they would need eight experienced Asphalt 8 players for such a video clip…)

It's PURE iOS power!!! Since years. (Telling that one day before iOS 7.) Try that with an Android or mobile Windows device! No way.

@Apple: In the next keynote I want to see Tim, Phil, Jonathan & Craigh racing updated A8 local multiplayer mode with some shiny new iPads and their extra processor, sensor and graphics power! Live on stage via TV. Without cheating. :) (Instead of demonstrating again that super-boring Infinity Blade as if it would be the one and only iOS game since five years or so…) Please, Apple, inform those guys about iOS' local multiplayer feature. It's easy. Even my grandma and the five-years-old daughter of a friend can setup & play it!!! One of the most outstanding iOS features! Believe Bytebrain and believe me, please!

Absolutely! You should hear us screaming and see us fighting on the sofa! Flying iPads instead of swords. (Nobody got hurt seriously.) A brutal combat for milliseconds. Never seen before. A complete NEW and exciting gaming experience believe me.

Career mode (seasons) is 5% of A8, local multiplayer is 95%! A game is set up within 30 seconds. Rock solid for hours and days! (iPad 3 and iPad 4 run Asphalt 7 for exactly 5.5 hrs and need power supply then.)

Not only ONE cable. No ext. monitor (the brilliant iPad's Retina display with those top-notch graphics just in front of your nose should be better). No tiny split screen. No controllers. No additional hardware. BETTER THAN WITH CLASSIC AND OLD-FASHIONED CONSOLES OR PCs!!! Welcome to the third millennium.

Switch Game Center accounts: All connected devices with the same cars and upgrades! Up to six or eight devices (tested with max. four)! Absolutely fair races. No cheaters possible. No rubber banding possible.

I'll test as soon as possible if it works with a Personal Hotspot (mobile WiFi) provided by an iPhone. So you don't even need to be at home (or in some unreliable public WiFi) for a local multiplayer race event. (But even if it works—iPhone's battery drains fast with some connected iPads via Personal Hotspot. Needs additional power supply/juice packs.) Squeeze out of your precious iOS devices as much as you can!

I even thought about establishing a hyper modern arcade hall (!) or coffee house/pub where people can "rent" some of the latest iPads for local mp races. With championships, prices and so on. There are some great editions with this feature, sims and fantasy: Asphalt series since A5, Table Top Racing, Real Racing 2 (afair), Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing, Cro-Mag Rally and some others with top-down-view (and maybe some FPS).

I know that local multiplayer is more popular in war games (first person shooters, ego shooters). I am collecting ALL info about that very special and exclusive iOS feature. Please share your experiences. Thanks in advance!

(If you're interested please see some of my previous postings in this thread where I am telling more about local multiplayer features in A8. There is much more to explore than you thought before, promised.)

Consoles and PCs are old fashioned now?

When it comes to most exciting and cable-free local multiplayer action races in a plane, train or bus (or even at home, at work or at school): YES! (Not only old fashioned but simply unusable.)

Yes since most consoles games dont offer local multiplayer anymore. Just reminded me where gaming is going to... enjoy it while it lasts :D

    Yeah don't remind me.
Its bad now that there are so few reasons for multiple controllers now.
This game here tough is lots of fun.

Still waiting for the first one who complains that local multiplayer mode in Asphalt 8 supports only eight devices.

    local social

Indeed? First I thought Best's remark is meant cynically. I'm rather off consoles since iPad. It's true? No more local multiplayer with new consoles and racing games? How should we call that: "Social"!? And PCs?

The more "social" the net becomes—the more lonely we are… Fight against that! With Asphalt 8's local and highly, highly social multiplayer mode.

Forgive the off-topic, but I couldn't help sharing this in light of your post:

Never posted a video, so I hope it works, but it speaks to your last comment, and I find it beautiful/poignant/haunting within our current sociological context...

Will have to watch this video later on my PC. The video isn't compatible for mobile devices. Yes I can see a worsening compounded loneliness caused by the anxiety of social media. The angst to be connected 24/7 has made us forget the benefits of being alone from time to time.
    Anyways back to TA
    Thanks for posting DBC!

Just watched the video. It's very good and more people should see this
This video is compatible for mobile devices after all. It's strange I clicked the link you provided and pressed play for the video and it claimed it needed a non mobile format to watch it. So I googled the topic on my itouch, searched videos- it was the first choice, clicked play and it ran it:)
    Thanks for posting DBC!

  14. Should have been 10. Or maybe 100, or maybe 1000. :)

Depends on your device. The iPhone 4 and iPod 4 line of devices don't support the World Series style online multiplayer due to hardware restrictions. We had to change the App Store description to reflect this on launch day to let players know.

I'm sorry if this affects you ):

I have been avoiding Gameloft for quite a while now... And while I still am in utter disgust with their marketing techniques to get money, I couldn't help but be really impressed by this when picking it up for free. The menus are cluttered and confusing, and the iAP very intrusive, but once you're in a race it's actually really fun. Best Gameloft game I've seen in a long time. Has a really great adrenaline-filled Split/Second feel to it. Now they just need to drop the iAP

Well if you play PC/console Need For Speed hot pursuit or most wanted they have a large amount of social stuff in it like speedwalls. Which require online internet.

The IAP is the opposite of that. Unless you suck it's manageable with the right purchase. One person here has 900 stars and all the cars, he got it without IAP. It's possible.

What's the most money you can get from a grind? What level are you guys grinding to get money? Half way through 8 and have a few hundred thousand dollar cars left and dread the saving
