Universal Asphalt 8: Airborne - (by Gameloft)

Discussion in 'iPhone and iPad Games' started by Sanuku, Aug 21, 2013.

  1. Here's the way I'm seeing the multiplayer

It takes a rich person to unlock a fast car straight away, yet it takes a skilled racer to use it to it's potential

If you don't know the right course path, or the right drifting/boosting times, then you can easily be beaten by less powerful cars who know about them

It's how in a B class car I have managed to beat a number of S class and A class cars. I know the right shortcuts to take, I drift practically whenever I'm not boosting and I always do flat spins on ramps, which can zoom me straight past the competition into the top position

TBH the Aventador is less appealing because it's very geometric, just something I couldn't explain, I <3 the Veneno (+Aventador too). I agree with the Urus, though, it looks like something you would use in space :3 They aren't really crappy, anyway (like, WTF? The Urus is faster than Benz SLS AMG and Chevy Camaro! The name Urus sucks, still)

    Equal skill = money wins.

And that makes any real competition impossible. No level playing field means no fair competition.

I definitely feel like the cash gaining in this game is a bit slow, especially compared to A7. Its also
much more challenging and competitive than A7.

Thank you. Well, two laps seem to be enough for the time being. As said before: The tracks are pretty long. Each inch an experience and a pleasure!

Wow. Really? The IAP isn't mandatory as bullwinkle had just explained. He got ALL the way or close enough to endgame without spending cash. You need to have skill and map knowledge of each map in order to win >_>

However, the iPhone 4 is running off of an A4 chip and a single core processor, similar to the iPod 4.

  8. Yeah, I hate wait timers, glad A8 doesn't have them, cause wait timers do nothing to make a game better, only make it worse.

If this is anything like Asphalt 7, Gameloft will probably update the game frequently to add in new cars.

Me too. I'm a Ferrari fan and I still don't have the money for the 458 Italia (and already own the Citroen B class car). The game is kind of oriented to "buy exactly these cars in this order if you want to progress. If you want to buy the remaining cars, grind a lot or spend real money". I'm enjoying the game a lot so I don't mind grinding at the moment, but cash comes in real slow.

I've also read that there are 180 events. Let's say you get an average of 5,000 coins per event. That means that without grinding you'd get 900,000 coins if you do 1st in all events and gather all the stars. Unfortunately, there are way too many "car X vs car Y" events which force you to buy a car that you don't want, or a "rank 10,000" event which leaves your "rank 100" car next to useless and you have to buy another car which you don't like.

Car upgrades are also oriented to making the first upgrade and not more, or spending real cash, because the second upgrade costs 10x times the first upgrade.

I'd also love a coin doubler for this game. The problem would be the price that GL would set for it. Bear in mind that buying all the car packs (permanent IAP, not consumables) means spending around $200. That's a lot of money. And the consumable IAP can go even higher if you want to upgrade all the cars.

In the end, paying $1 gives a lot of great gaming, but if you want to obtain the maximum of the game, I feel you have to spend more on it...

The tracks are exaclty the same. The thing is that they play with:

    1. Running the track one way or another.
    2. Putting walls on some routes so that you're forced to take another route.

I've noticed this in Tokyo and Iceland ATM. It's great because they feel different tracks.

I don't consider this to be "pay to win". That's coming from a person that, in general, has been dissatisfied with what Gameloft releases. I will say that the game is designed to give you a little push towards spending some cash (in game currency is a little slow to earn). I felt the same way about NFS: MW after spending more money on it though. As others have mentioned, lower rated cars can easily win multi player races. Unless your car is drastically underpowered it's anyone's race. I believe the multi player only pits you against somewhat even cars though.

There are 2 shortcuts in the game that I may consider mandatory. Even those, with different cars are not. With different classes of cars I have found different routes to be more ideal. It is mandatory to understand the course/car you are playing with and adjust your route accordingly. That's true of just about every racer with multiple route choices.

No there's snow everywhere. Wish I could upload a pic but TA app is not letting me do this. The paths are same but environment is the one changed!

The dog barks, the caravan moves on

On top of A8 running at well above "10-15FPS" (per DK's vid), you're making unfair and rather naive assumptions about two very different games. We get it, you could do a better job optimizing 90% of the games you've played. No need to toot your horn to the same tune half a dozen times.

My newest baby. Maserati GranTurismo Sport (my first Tier B car). Here in the Alps. Very good car!

Could win some Season 4 events with all stars on the first attempt although the Maserati is not tuned yet (at all). I am getting much more money now (p. e. 3,000 coins for a won race with some medals).

Well, I was talking about this thread specifically. Of course, I haven't read the entire thread, so that number may well be pretty far off the mark.

    Bought:

    Lamborghini Veneno
    Ulteriormente Potenziato

(Wikipedia.)

(Just kidding. Not bought yet. In local multiplayer mode you can drive some cars "for free".) Look deeep into those eyes:

What should I tell you about that weapon? If someone missed sense of speed—try this one! It was a fight for splits of seconds!

All images from iPad 4. Tap/click to enlarge. London track.

Tried some more local multiplayer races with iPad 3 (buddy) and iPad 4 (for one hour or so). Works perfect! Fresh install on my buddy's iPad 3. Logged in Game Center with the account of iPad 4 (mine, already on Season 4): Voilà! All scores, stars and cars on both devices! Won some trophies. But I'm afraid I can't logout Game Center on iPad 3 to change account (inside A8). Maybe via the Game Center app. Will try that tomorrow.

    Look at those graphics! Incredible.
