Need for Speed is a bit more realistic, the atmosphere is more gloomy and the physics outstanding, graphics and animations are superb. Asphalt is a lot like Burnout Paradise and games similar. The atmosphere is upbeat, the colors sparkle and there are a lot more particle effects then NFS (graphics wise similar). Physics are much more like NFS compared to Asphalt 7, but the disparity is there. The main attraction Asphalt has over NFS is the multiplayer and the fact it will likely be updated multiple times.
Mmmm... They are different. If I had to choose one, I'd choose A8 because there's more variety of things to be done, more cars to buy and tracks are more dynamic. In NFS:MW tracks are more monotonous. Touch control is IMO more precise in NFS, but once you get the hook of A8 touch controls you'll do perfectly too. Also, NFS requires a lot of grinding to buy high end cars. I think A8 will also require a lot of grinding to buy the most expensive cars, but it feels less monotonous. In NFS I ended up grinding in the same race over and over again because it gave me 50,000 coins for a 1st place and I needed 2.5m coins for the car I wanted. After I got 1m coins I got bored and deleted NFS, and I've finished (and deleted) the game twice. The second time I installed it was because I wanted to play with the new cars (Zonda R and another one), but it didn't give enough variety to keep it installed.
Thank you, VFB! I appreciate your insight and will probably follow your lead. I need a 128 GB iPad so I don't face these dilemmas
Game Impressions My personal strategy with those display options: When I begin with a new track I choose a huge overview (top/behind the car). For learning purposes. Later I'll switch closer and closer to the bumper for precise steering. Love it how the software shows you the air ballet anyway even when you are in bumper view: Zooms quickly back to complete car view, let's dance, and again back to bumper view exactly on landing. Try it out! It's meraviglioso! Venice—The City Without Cars Venice is my second home. I was there 15–20 times. And I never saw any car inside the laguna. Not a truck, not a super sports car, not a classic/vintage car at an exhibition. Nothing. The only motor vehicles are boats. Not even 50ccm motos. Okay. This street exists WITH cars in real life inclusive the railroad (watch closely for the Campanile tower at middle/right far in the background)… It leads from the onshore suburb Venezia-Mestre some miles to the border of the laguna. In the sixties there was an electric trolleybus route along that road (I never saw those ETBs personally—too long ago). At the end of that road there is a giant parking area where all cars (even police and military cars) have to stop and/or turn around and go back to Mestre. Why? It's easy. The streets are far too narrow for motorized traffic. At the Piazza San Marco in Venice, with St Mark's Campanile (right) and Basilica (left side of the pic): No vehicles with tires and motors. Not even a trace of an ETB. Very few bicycles (if any). Little quiz: Where are we here? A little help: It's not Venice. (Mind the lots of alternative routes.) All images: iPad 4 screenshots of Asphalt 8: Airborne. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Venice Everybody should go there at least once in life! Please guys, show A8 to your wifes, girlfriends, grandmas, aunts and daughters. I know they will love it because it's SOOO pretty! And be warned: I was surprised more than once how good and intuitive the girls are driving in this action video game.
That one is very useful and shows that it is in fact quite well optimised even for iPod 4. Thanks for that and reminding about that video. And Der Kleine of course for putting it up in the first place. Cheers. Much appreciated to both you and DK.
I checked that out some months ago with an up-to-date Samsung…, well: smartphone. Asphalt 7 worked mediocre, controls mediocre. Playable and…, okay: fun. There was an option for online multiplayer but it didn't work. There was an option for local multiplayer (I don't remember WLAN or Bluetooth) but the owner of the device told me that he tried it with another Android device and it didn't work. No cross platform races. Personally I didn't miss that and I don't miss it today, who buys an Android device may blame himself, but I have almost always a second iOS device with me for a showdown how you setup a local multiplayer game within 30 sec (stable for 5.5 hrs until the battery drains) without ANY cable and without ANY monitor; read that, old-fashioned consoles. No local multiplayer races with Andriod devices and Macs in the same race via Bluetooth or WiFi (as it was possible with Asphalt 6 on Macs + iOS—the only software EVER that offered this option).
Anyone know why the cloud save will only save my money? When I switched to my iPhone from my iPad, it transferred over my (less than you start with) money, but not my cars or stars. Very frustrating!
Thanks robo. I think I'll hold off on A8 for now since I'm not into multiplayer. Probably will end up deleting NFS when more AAA titles are released
I've got a few questions and impressions here. First off, this game runs great on my iPod 5. Sure there aren't as many added effects as the better devices, like the iPad. But I haven't noticed because the game is so fun! So, anyone asking about 4S performance, it runs fine. As I mentioned earlier, this game is so fun! I've just a few hours ago got all 60 stars on the first season. Infected mode is by far my favorite, but it seems like something that would suck on multiplayer. To iTouch 4 users: you have an old device. Obviously, if iOS 7 isn't going for it, consider your device "outdated". Most high end games these days are not going to run on 256MB of RAM. As mentioned a few pages back, is it possible to do a barrel roll off of a flat ramp? If so, how? And my brother has the new Nexus 7? Is it worth giving him a dollar so that he can play it? Or is the performance wonky like some other Android devices?
Again, I'm far from being an Android fan as I too have learned that despite it's many plusses as far as being more customizable and a place where emulators run rampant without being dumped by the Apple Gods, it isn't and may never be an equal as far as gaming. I'm not talking performance wise. I'm talking content wise. There's just way more games available on Apple and, as Rip73 and I both expressed, it's just so fragmented that it's impossible to get things running great across all devices. Only reason I decided to post is that things are turning around a bit with multiplayer with Google's equivalent to the Gamecenter. It's far from being great, but it definitely has improved. I'm not a big multiplayer gamer anyway. I like my Nexus 7, but still do the vast majority of gaming on my iPhone. There are some games I play on it that are on both systems (mainly due to lack of space on my iPhone for keepers like Epoch and the Bard's Tale that I double dipped on) and some Android exclusives (or once exclusives like Puddle and ExZeus 2). By and large, I still come back to my iPhone 4S for new releases. Anyway, I won't drivel on about it. Asphalt 8 runs like crap on it and hope that changes (because it shouldn't). So back to my 4S! On topic, I'm still blown away by everything in this game. Love the jumps and there's so much more to the tracks as far as multiple routes than just about any linear racer that I can remember. The vertical takedowns and tricks are great. And I know some have complained about drifting, but I actually like it much better in A7. I don't find myself crashing into walls as much as I did in A7. What can I say. This is the best arcade racing experience I've had since Burnout Revenge on Xbox 360 (Paradise was good, but for some reason I'm not a huge fan of open world racers).
I think it's fine on the new Nexus 7. It's the old Nexus 7, which still is entirely capable, that is having issues with it. I'd say to tell him to go for it. It's only a buck and Google showcased it on the new Nexus 7 so I think it's probably more optimized on that device than any of the other Android models. Can't speak from experience though.
That's funny because I used to have that issue in A7, but don't have a problem in A8. Don't know. Guess it just feels natural to me here, but others have mentioned not liking the drift in A8 too.
It seems a bit rough. What I have found works every time (though its annoying having to do). Let' say you play on device 2 and thats the save you want. Close device 2 open device 1 choose Keep the game from device/overwrite cloud. Now reopen device 2, which will now detect a difference, chose keep game from device /overwrite cloud. Then When you open device 1 again chose use cloud. Then you should have it. Don't mess this up so you by mistake delete your cloud save.
And it runs pretty well for the most part on an ipad 3. Would probably have to recommend the immersive bumper camera first person view for best framerates and sense of speed. Even in A7, for the most part, this view was the best in terms of framerates.
I've been there in Venezia-Mestre! I recognize that road. Ohhhh. Haven't reached any race in Venice yet, but I think I'm going to love it
Anyway you Android users can start an Android Asphalt 8 thread in the Android forums here? This thread is for the ios version of Asphalt 8, and for the most part, it runs well on ios on most current devices. Android fragmentation issues are better discussed in the Android forum, as rip explains above, there are reasons for it.
Hey fellow racing friends! Is there a playlist of all the songs played in Asphalt 8? Maybe Ryan could help with that. Would be interesting to know. Cheers!
