I am playing A8 mostly on iPad 4 but I tested it (for 30 min each or so) on iPad 3, iPhone 4 and iPhone 5 (all with latest iOS, never jailbroken). Failed: iPad orig. ("iPad 1"; can't install "not compatible because of missing gyro sensor", obvioulsy A7 was the last Asphalt for iPad orig.—and A6 the last for OS X). Absolutely full playable on all those other devices. Well, I didn't count the pixels or some graphical details being present or not. But very smooth framerate. (No online multiplayer on iPhone 4.) There are some light freezes even on iPad 4—but only once in the presentation/title screen shortly before the race begins (when the camera pans around in the cities and landscapes for a few seconds, see screenshot below). At this place there always were freezes in all Asphalt versions and on all devices. I guess it's because at the same time the software loads some essential bits and bytes in the background to RAM and/or connects with some servers (if online multiplayer). Other than that minor, minor complaint it's PURE iOS POWER how FINE this software runs on all those devices. During the races and in all menu screens 99.87658% smooth. Not only one crash to homescreen or any other slightest problem with A8 even with some devices in local multiplayer during 4x combo crashes (played 3–4 hrs altogether on multiple devices). And it's complex software believe me. Most sophisticated and advanced hightech programming. The absolute best you can get right now. Modern video games always need the highest amount of technical software and hardware resources. There is more trippy speed feeling inside than in any air combat. Welcome to the third millenium! And no, I'm not affiliated with Gameloft in any way. Just enjoying and recommending highly, highly A8. Greetings from a little country in the Alps! And no, you can't drive through avalanches in real life.
Oh, I completely agree with these statements and absolutely love the game on my 4S. All I'm saying is that my Tegra 3 Nexus 7 is more than capable of playing highly graphic intensive games at great framerates. But even on lower graphic settings this doesn't perform well. And you can say all you want about Android, but it's just not right to think it shouldn't run better than it does. I understand that it's hard to ensure that games run smoothly across the board on Android devices. It's impossible with so many different chipsets. So I understand why things like this happen. In fact, I've read where other Android devices with LESS horsepower than Tegra 3 are running the game just fine. So it's not the OS, it's that different chipsets require different optimization. On iOS there's just a few chipsets to test on so it's a lot easier on devs. I'm by no means an Android fanboy. I have both devices, but tend to play my iPhone 4S more generally because there are a lot of games on iOS that simply aren't available on Android. And I've also played on iOS much longer. Anyway, my only point is that an Android device like the Nexus 7 should be able to handle this game and when it doesn't even using lower graphics settings, it's not optimized and the Android OS is not the problem when other Droids play it just fine.
How exactly would you like them to optimise for every Android device in use? A major study released in July has shown there is almost 12,000 unique Android devices on the market. That's different phones from different manufacturers. Along with many overlays that manufacturers choose to put on their devices. Its not only difficult to optimise for Android, its also extremely expensive and time consuming. Also, how exactly can they test against all of them in order to say in the description that it doesn't run on it as you asked for there? The description would go on forever. Testing would go on forever. There are very legitimate reasons behind the Android fragmentation statements. Its still not poor optimisation. Its just an impossible hill to climb. @Awp. I take your point and the Nexus 7 (previous gen to just launched one) issue is a known one. It will be solved. These scenarios do crop up and is most likely linked in some way to it being specifically used at new Nexus 7 launch. The numbers above show just how easily it can happen. On that, I'm leaving this subject. I've no real interest in getting into the usual type of debate a particular member regurgitates on each and every thread.
The default one is "close". As you tap through the camera icon on top left while in a race, you will see the name of the camera angle pop up as it changes. There is fixed, close, action and immersive options.
I did one once as a fluke. I was rammed while going into a spin and did a barrel roll while also slowly spinning. Pretty sure I only got points for the spin though
There have been many things going and coming in the Asphalt series. I've been lucky enough to play all the 8 editions, so if you want to read, here's a bit of history: From what I remember, A1 and A2 were for the original N-Gage, while A3 was for the N-Gage app present in the N95 8GB and other high end Nokia phones. A1 was amazing, but the ramps were lame: half of the times you tried to catch them you crashed as if they were brick walls. In A2 they removed all the ramps and integrated more spectacular crashes, which were more or less severe according to the gravity of the crash. Unfortunately, the legal A2 had a bug which deleted your savegame when you were on a 90-95% completion. The team who cracked the game released a patch for the cracked version, but the original retail version was never fixed AFAIK because the games were sold on SD/MMC cards and couldn't be updated. A3 was more of a showcase of the N-Gage app on the N95 8GB. I liked that one a lot, but it was simpler than the rest. I think that one didn't have ramps either, but I'm not sure. It had cool graphics and integrated pseudo-real time reflections. From A4 to A8 I think people here have those more present because they were all released for iOS. Out of all the versions, I'm enjoying A8 the most because it's not only about getting 1st, but about finding the shortest route and doing air tricks. You can also roll in round tunnels and things like that, which is very cool too. Unfortunately, I also miss the double arrows on the floor and the cop chases from previous Asphalt games.
Well, I've played through the majority of season one and I just want to congratulate the Gameloft guys on a job well done. I've not had this much fun in a racing game since Burnout Revenge in the early days of the Xbox 360. This is, so far, IAP done right. The IAP feels like it's there to be used if you want to fast track your progress rather than being an actual requirement like in Real Racing at times. Graphically on the iPad 4 this is utterly gorgeous. From particle effects when going side by side with another car, to the lighting, to the water, to the dirt on cars as they hammer through the various terrains, it's just stunning. I'd also recommend setting the steering sensitivity for tilt steering to 95% as I find it perfectly loose and responsive compared to the stock setting. Real Racing 3 has just been deleted.
Very interesting facts about A1–A3 which I missed as being an iOS person. Thanks so much VBF! I'd replace "shortest" with "best route for the circumstances being". Not always the shortest route is the best (but often—admittedly). Puzzle inside. And I'm not speaking of a mini game. Yes this air ballet is ABSOLUTELY great!!! First when I heard about it I was afraid that it could be too arcadeish, kindisch or toyish. But it's a perfect addition and it feels MORE THAN REALISTIC! Hyper realistic maybe. And it never gets old because each jump looks different depending on your exact direction, tempo and drifting angle. And the best are the eliminations/crashes in the air! Or jumping on the roof of an opponent. WRRRECKED!!! (Don't forget you can steer in the air, that was not possible in Asphalt 7. Even more realism!) Or the combo ramps fiesta on that narrow bridge! Better than any "real" air combat! Realistic like a Venice full of cars. Please more Asphalt history. Will try to collect some screenshots or videos when I'm through with A8 career mode.
Maybe you should be clearer next time. One minute its poorly optimised for Android. The next its poorly optimised for iPod touch 4. Over and back, the typical "optimisation" argument you bring everywhere. The iPod is weak. Simple as that. Every developer will say the same thing. Everyone. Android is fragmented. Impossible to optimise for fully. Again every developer will say the same thing. There's answers for both your points. As for using RR3 as your example, I'm pretty sure you were in that thread saying it was poorly optimised as well. Its time you found a new cause to jump on board with because you're current one doesn't stand up anymore and trying to get something to run on an iPod touch 4 (or whatever device you decide you're talking about this time) is actually holding progress back on gaming on the platform at this stage. Not that's it. Don't reply. I've no further interest because you're argument/point/discussion/debate has been done and done again and overdone far too many times by you to the point that it is as predictable as taxes and death and simply not worth engaging with in any shape or form.
This mode is where more strategy is involved. Just try to be 8th and infected half way to the finish line of the last lap. From there, climb to 1st place. It's an amazing experience beating the clock and the rivals by just 2 seconds of margin
Infected mode is pathetic. One race I won without seeing anything of an infection all the way. (Seems it was a pole1st.) In another I reached the finish 1/10 sec before I exploded (and "healed" with a 5 sec. penalty). Epic!
Sorry if the question has been asked already, but how does this compare to need for speed most wanted? I only have enough storage for one big racer. The last racer I really enjoyed was burnout revenge
Well, to put the final nail in the coffin of this particular argument, here is Der-Kleine's video showing just how well the game runs on a 4th-gen iPod Touch. It's obviously not quite the same as playing it on a 4th-gen iPad, but as you can see it is also leagues away from being "unplayable" as Goku claimed.
