It's cool. I agree with you about upgrading. I forgot this game uses a different engine. I've sunk so many hours into Asphalt 7 that I'm still getting used to this one. There's definitely quite a big difference between the immersive and other camera modes. The infected thing is pretty cool.
Its still true online multiplayer. Just lacks the play friends option. Something that is being looked into and will be considered for a future update. The rest of the multiplayer is still a true online multiplayer experience.
My earlier post may not have been clear. So thought I'd just simplify it. Is the iPad 4 the only device that has the added motion blur, dust particles on the windsheild, etc.?
Tried a little bit more online multiplayer. Pretty fun. 8 races or so. One I lost because of a nasty crash just in front of the finish but in the other races I was under the first three. But how could I LOSE points (those points showing up under "rank" in the main menu screen the second from the left side)?! I had almost 1200 before and after some online mp there are only 703 left. An error? And "position" just displays "without rank" but there was a rank before (don't recall which). Never was a fan of online mp altogether. Cheating, hacking, buying ranks fellows… The races are fun, yes, but the rankings need to be fixed obviously. (Maybe it's me.) Can't await until I meet my buddies for some LOCAL multiplayer races. No cheating possible when you play with the same account.
I have returned and will now proceed to beat all these ghosts. Don't see it. I don't like the Camaro all that much. Only thing I've said about it is that it accelerates into a drift and doesn't lose speed. You were talking about how some cars are worse than others at losing speed when entering a drift. Well look harder. Nonsense. I've played racing games for hours on end and never had a problem. Do a push up or something. You're not doing it right. This makes no sense.
iPhone 5 has all the effects as well. Started on the iPad 3 then tried it on my phone and now I can't go back. It looks awesome on the i5.
Combine that. When you're doing the barrel thingy while drifting (first a bit nitro power and then drifting) you'll see a very special air ballet dance of your car believe me. Hard to describe: Kind of combination of barrel and screwdriver movement. But it will land fine (mostly). Love the "new" adrenaline mode, I think it's called "perfect nitro". In prior Asphalt versions, you had to wait until the nitro display is full (in A6 it got blue additionally) and then trigger the superfast adrenaline mode. Without a full display you could trigger nitro power in three steps. Tap tap tap. Now in A8 when you launch nitro mode watch the display! There will be a red section sometimes. When you tap the nitro button when the red section is reached then you'll get the new adrenaline mode "perfect nitro". There will be an additional all-over motion blur visible (iPad 4). It looks different than in A7 (there was an all over neon blue similar to the neon green/thermonuclear color of A8's infected mode). A complete different technique! Also, in A7/A6 you were almost (!) invulnerable in adrenaline mode. In A8's "perfect nitro" mode you are better shielded against crashes but not invulnerable.
Yeah, no go on the 4S. Still looks great. Wish it was like the Android version where you can choose the graphical level. Would like to see how it would run with the effects enabled on the 4S.
Because the multiplayer is based in a grading scale type of system. Rather than just allocating xp for position, it combines factors such as your previous finishes, other players in the lobby finishes, rank positions, allocates anticipated finish position and some other factors and rewards accordingly. Its designed to be a fairer reward system later on when newcomers are playing experienced. You lost points because you performed lower than the software expected you to against the opposition you were playing. That's a simplified version but its very similar to the system used in Blitz Brigade online multiplayer. Its just trying to reward fairer so that it doesn't be as simple playing all the time to reach the top. It grades skill level also so that the leader-board is occupied by the actually skilled as opposed to the constantly playing.
Well, damn. My Nexus 10's running okay again (I dunno, maybe it was going through a virus scan before or something), even when I turn the graphics to max, and... damn. It is a seriously nice-looking game with the extra glitter. A lot of it is still down to good art direction, IMO (though it really is hugely impressive what Gameloft are pushing out of the iTouch 5G). I've seen better track design in a purely mechanical sense, as in tracks that are more fun to race, but the background details here are frequently superb. I hadn't even noticed the robot before someone on this thread pointed it out and now I can't stop watching it every time I go past.
And I'd wish that we get some nitro as a reward when we accomplish a complete 360° turn in those tube tunnels.
Very bad would be the answer. Framerate takes a very big hit in that case. Some developers have left in a scaler like you're talking about but it left them open to very bad reviews because a lot of people had the maximum graphic level on devices that it shouldn't have been and they ended up with many support emails and bad reviews. Its generally not recommended anymore. Android only has it because of the huge range of devices and devs don't have the option to test them all or know all the hardware specifications of devices.
Thanks for your very good explanation, Rip73! I'll try to read and understand that once more. (I wasn't that bad in the online mp races afair.) But good to know that everything is okay; I had no idea that you can lose points (my online mp races were were very rare even in A6/A7). Btw the A8 servers are running fine, most races are ready within 30 sec.
Did anyone think the drifting was a little wonky? I only had time to play one race, however I really sucked at drifting. It didnt matter the AI was complete crap on the first race; I was in the same spot for about a minute but I still finished first. Also, for the people that have some experiance in the game, is it better to buy new cars or to upgrade older ones?
Seriously...the premature complaints on the drifting and sense of speed need to come to a stop. Once you get into the meat of the game, you realize how fast and awesome the drifting is. Your first car will suck at drifting, it's a crappy car. They had to strike a balance. I can't wait to see how fast the real good super cars are!
There's been a few people that have said the same thing, but I actually think they're better here. I feel more in control of the vehicle while drifting vs. Asphalt 7. Able to change direction and don't find myself slamming into walls while drifting as much as I did in A7.
Playing on iPhone 4 and I can confirm there's no multiplayer (aside local wi-fi one)... Still an awesome game, of course, but I really do hope that it will be included as soon as possible on older devices... For now, it lacks a really big and appealing part of the game...
