I'm in ipad but here it took a pretty long time for the update to go through and install so maybe it solves itself. Took 15 minutes for the download to complete and process the update or so, a lot longer than normal

You can now compete for the 2015 Ford Mustang and the Chrysler ME412. I tried the mustang and its a LOT harder to turn than the Challenger

Looks like some of the talented racers (e.g., Rhinolabello) have fallen for the trap and activated their free extra tanks for multiplayer. I wonder if they even know that they'll have to pay real dollars to keep it up in a few days.

I have to admit that hiding the switch to pay-to-win behind a bunch of free boosts was a clever move on Gameloft's part. :)

    Don't worry, I ain't kidding myself.

There was plenty of reaction to the rental fees for cars and plenty more from those that didn't own the cars that were specifically needed for certain TLE's.
And plenty of it on here.

The timer gives you the opportunity to use a car that you don't own (or so it seems unless I've misinterpreted that part) or is not available yet to own in a TLE without having to spend credits on rental or whatever.
Now if that's not clear, I can see no way to explain it as it seems perfectly clear to me that if you don't have to spend credits on a rental fee, that one is saving on credits.

If you recall some cars were 10,000 to rent for certain events. Some people on here have claimed to have spent the price of the car on renting it in the event.
Is that not clearly a saving if one can use the timer pips as opposed to actual credits now?

If you choose to spend and acquire more timers, well, that is your own personal choice. However it is not forced upon you so the choice is ultimately you're own.
Everybody will get an equal number of chances for free. If they can't do it with those free chances, they can choose to let it refill for free and try again or they can choose to buy more.

However, all people are left with the option of not having to buy more, beyond their own compulsion, and will have taken part in the event for nothing more than a few pips on a timer, not for 10,000 rental for each run.
    Clearly a saving.

If others choose to buy more, well, so be it. That, again, is their own choice that they are entitled to make is they so choose.
Others can just compete away for a while for nothing.
And I certainly wouldn't consider that kidding oneself.

    It's OK, a switchoff/back on has resolved.

Wow, I leave the forums just for the night and there's already a lot of mixed opinions about the update.

I like the new fuel system, it allows newbies to compete even though they lack the currency to be able to on previous updates (for rent, or for the car). This alongside the decreased booster prices helps a lot with saving money.
The extra tank is a clever move from GL, people that are dedicated to win will definitely buy that. Newbies may have a chance too. On the opposite hand, if a good player buys it, then the race is already over.
There are some sour parts in this update though, one being the decreased duration for boosters. Sure, they can still give back the same amount spent for them, but that decrease is too much IMO.

Then again, I'm saying this w/o having seen the update with my own eyes, so my opinion may change once I get my hands on it.

Edit: a question: how many tries do you have with a full fuel bar, or whatever the name is, and how much does it cost to refill it?

So the purchase-only extra tank automatically fills up your nitro bar? How do you activate it?

No, it simply makes your nitro last twice as long, which equals infinite nitro on most tracks (or maybe all of them — I haven't checked). You activate it the way you activate any boost: Buy it, and it will remain in effect until the countdown hits zero.

EDIT: Oops, CobaltBlue (below) has it right. After testing it in single player, I think that the effect still comes pretty close to infinite nitro, though, at least when combined with a nitro starter boost.

Well, I for one like the update: I don't have to rent cars I don't own to play events, fuel doesn't apply to events of cars which are already available to purchase (at least the Hispania event shows 0 fuel consumption to compete) and best of all, it's much, much smoother on my iPhone 4S!!! No lags, no reboot after installing update. I like the update a lot...

It basically gives you a second nitro bar to fill during races (and comes full if you have the nitro boost). It does alter the dynamics quite a bit since you're much less likely to run out of nitro at any point now...and it makes triple boosting viable in a lot of spots where you would've perfect boosted before.

I got 9 of them as collection rewards and activated one to check it out. Didn't realize that they cost money once I run out of the free ones. =/

Also got like 7 tuning kits and a 3 nitro boosts...that still list out at 4 hours and 2 hours respectively...though I'm not sure if that's because I already had them active/some in reserve. I did always feel like the 8 hour tuning kits kind of largely went to waste for me, and I often felt compelled to play for 2 hours when I decided to use boosts due to the nitro boost time.

Top 10 WW for the Mercedes is pretty harsh. Think I might have a shot at top 50 on the Mustang, but it's obviously still really early. I'm fine with this fuel system thing and prefer it to rental.

Oh, they did update the country list...I think basically all of them are now there. Unfortunately, it also seems that they instituted a country-lock. You get to change once and then are stuck with it. I suppose that was inevitable...though it still makes me a little sad.

Also, times seem to synchronize essentially instantly at the end of races now.

Oh, and I like one lap multis. Basically flips the maps I'll be choosing from now on. Going to be much faster getting to level 85 than I expected. Also makes for decent credit grind compared to TLE.

Well, that just sucks. One might be able to get around that with a car like the McLaren P1, which covers enough ground in nitro-mode to reach the bottles (on most courses, but not Iceland obviously), but it will have devastating effects on, say, Mini Cooper races, which always involve strategic drifting to refill your bar.

This will also have a devastating effect on tournament results, as those who have "super nitro" activated will be able to cut corners/not be dependent on collecting any bottles or pulling off stunts. Imagine no longer having to do flat-spins on the Westminster Bridge track because your nitro can last all the way to the sharp turn now.

It's not just MP that's going to be affected by this update!

Yup, I got knocked down often enough this morning to confirm that.

My explanation was slightly wrong, though — see CobaltBlue's post.

Indeed. I forgot to mention that, because I am not affected by TLE changes. YMMV. ;)

I'm assuming Rhinolabello was behind most of those knockdowns. Do you remember what his winning times were? They must've been a few seconds faster than beforehand.

Not liking the looks of this update one bit. I can't play again till Saturday night, so in the meantime I'll cherish my memories of how playing this game used to be. :(

Two of them — a lot of Mini racers have activated their extra tanks by now.

The resulting scenario is similar to when infinite nitro cheaters dominated everything: On certain tracks (e.g., French Guiana, where I did beat him), you can outrun those guys, because there are enough nitro sources along the way. On other tracks, you don't stand a chance.

I'm afraid I don't. I never look at times, and even if I had looked, the difference between his time and mine would have been influenced by, you know, him knocking me down. :D
