Speaking of ghost races, I discovered an awesome new feature while racing ezgi hatun's ghost: The game let me start at the same grid position as he did! Given how close most of our ghost races are these days, that's a huge step forward. EDIT: Still doesn't work like that on other tracks. Odd.
That is a great improvement. Your right....in some cases that tenth it two is just a lot to over come.
This one? It's one of the most impressive barrel roll jumps in Asphalt 8: Airborne. Here you can see how I did it in Season 6: Adrenaline for two times, Classic, The Great Wall Reverse, Lamborghini Veneno, Class S. It's pretty risky, you have to approach in a steep (not in a too flat) angle. Subscribe to the TouchArcade YouTube channel Sorry for the bad technical quality of the video. I have some serious fps (and sound) problems on recording my iPad Air to MacBook with Reflector. Playing with 3-5 fps (the video is a bit better) and that's NOT fun. That worked better with the previous Asphalt version.
That's the one. It's the first barrel roll ramp in Asphalt 8 that behaves that way. Basically, the car doesn't seem to know when to stop rolling, so you have to get the jump just right to get your car aligned properly with the ground when it lands. Every other barrel roll ramp in Asphalt 8 has a built-in roll limiter, if you will — they won't let you do 1.5 or 2.5 rolls. So why is this one different, is what I'm wondering. Bug or feature? -- EDIT — forgot to reply to Turbo 343: The main issue with those differing grid positions, in my opinion, is that in some races, one will allow you to knock out the cars that start ahead of you, while the other doesn't. If you're in a no boosts ghost race, the resulting nitro difference determines the result of the race.
Don't forget: You land on a steep downhill. Let's say I wouldn't risk doing that roll when I am the leader and there's enough nitro and distance to the second. Love it how the car bounces up once more on landing after that endless jump. Never seen before in Asphalt. It's a very hard landing and I'm sure the Agera would crash in the video. It's always impressive how the graphics in A8 reveal clearly uphills and downhills. That's VERY difficult to show on 2D screens believe me. Hordes of cinematographers worked out little tricks how to bring that in an imposing manner for movies. I managed it on almost all other barrel or flat spin ramps to land on the roof ("wreck"). Sometimes, rarely. There is always a tiny bit of risk in those jumps especially when you drift on the ramps and have a lot to steer in the air. Little advantage in the new version: In career mode it remembers the location of the menu list where you launched the previous race. Even if you scroll the seasons.
I don't agree 100%. It's true that most of the times there are roll adjustments so that you don't make 1.5, 2.5, etc. rolls, but sometimes yo do make .5 rolls and end up with the car smashing the floor upside down. This doesn't happen many times, but it happens sometimes. In fact, I remember one in which I got the barrel roll so "perfectly" that the car began spinning like crazy and did 6-8 barrel rolls before crashing upside down. I'm sure this wasn't intended, but it happened. EDIT: after watching Habakuk's video, I can assure you there is a roll limiter on that ramp too. The thing is that the .5 roll ocurrence % might be higher on that ramp (due to the steep road) than in other ramps, so you end up upside down more often than in other ramps.
True, that's why I mentioned a minimum car and a proper angle. I can't think of a single other ramp where going straight on (i.e., in line with the ramp's "entrance") with a Sesto Elemento or a Veneno can result in a crash. But yeah, when you approach at an angle or drift onto the ramp, all kinds of weird stuff can happen — there's no doubt about that. So unless it's a deliberate decision on Gameloft's part, I still think the downward slope is the most likely culprit, and I'm glad Habakuk agrees. EDIT in reply to your EDIT: I've tried the Veneno a couple of times, and my results jibe with that video. It looks like the limiter works when you land on that plateau that's halfway down the slope, like Habakuk did both times. Miss the plateau, and it's a matter of luck. Further evidence for the slope theory.
That is so true.... I completely forgot about that until you said it..... That is a much bigger reason indeed.
Wait, which Asphalt 8 version are you on? The new one finally displays non-ASCII characters for me. If you're still on 1.2, maybe he is, too.
I think it's pretty awesome that at least 3 of us (that I know) on here are on the top 11 of the new tourney. And yes, I say top 11 because I was just bumped from the top 10 by .01. The anti-cheating thing seems to be working. I still refuse to play any more MP though until it gets changed back. Ps please add me- Jonm626
Personally I love that ramp, it makes the game so much more realistic, and cool when your car barely lands it. Though it is an arcade racer so I understand why most wouldn't like it.
And yet, his name is displayed as blocks. I wonder if that's a clue somehow. Or maybe the name is three Emoji characters or something, and Asphalt still can't display those. At any rate, being anonymous is very convenient for the guy, because that makes it harder to report him. Just you wait. You'll get your score back up, then you'll have the privilege of racing a phalanx of 599XXes. Which country is that? The US? Note to self: Remember to change country to "Worldwide" before entering the next cup. I think it's a nice new aspect, actually. I'm just curious about what's behind the scenes.
I have done it already and hope that during the next event it does what we hope it will. Boy judging by the post time you are up late my friend
