I play with touch controls and steering wheel. I find that when I am turning (keep thumb pressing so that steering wheel is turned completely) and make a quick touch combination of brake & nitro to take a sharp turn as fast as possible, the game sometimes misses the steering thumb press and thinks I have released it, making me crash against the wall. This happens to me specially with S-class cars which are maxed out. My guess is that screen touch recognition in such high speeds is pushed to the limit, and the CPU sometimes sacrifices touch input in benefit of keeping the framerate, which in an all-touch configuration is terrible... I understand your point of being able to control the throttle (my bad read when I said gear change, but in any case it would mean an extra button which should be controlled simultaneously with nitroing), since I sometimes feel I would be able yo scratch a few tenths of second by controlling acceleration, but I firmly think it would be too many things to have controlled onscreen. Something completely different is support for iOS 7 controllers. Those would fit perfectly with a control-all button scheme. Btw, what were your best times and input configuration in this last tournament? I got around 1.18, but haven't been able to get a better result. I always end up crashing when in the last S turns. Maybe tilt control would make me improve? I'm completely lame with tilt steering
Sounds slow to me...But as you get higher (at least for me) I see that it takes a full race to gain points at all.....and it can be hard to find a full race. Could not tell you how may races I have won with no gain at all.... I have spent half an hour leaving rooms that I see only a driver or two in..... Is this what happened to you or am I off in my guess? Or is that too good as of your last few weeks of struggle with hackers? At the end of the day I see moving up good no matter the pace anymore. I give what is wrong man
I think this is the one thing that works as expected: The higher up you are, the harder it should be to make further progress. Otherwise, it would be impossible to catch up for people who started their multiplayer career late. You yourself are actually a great example for this: How would you ever catch up with me if I still got a point for every race I won, while not losing tons of points when I come in second? -- EDIT, and totally unrelated: Did anyone else get asked for feedback on an iPad steering wheel concept today? Here's my reply: It's a pity really. I like the idea in theory, and I can definitely relate to the mucky iPad problem. (Then again, would a mucky steering wheel be better? The iPad is probably easier to clean.)
Yes, me, a few minutes ago. I watched the video, but just ignored the message. They're looking for your e-mail to have a database: a new member with 0 posts redirects you to a Youtube video and asks for feedback to be sent directly to an e-mail address. Nah, been there, done that. And I like the idea of the steering wheel. If they send me a prototype home for testing purposes, I'll happily provide feedback (even though Sanuku is a much better option for this, since he plays on iPad. I play on iPhone ). Back on topic: where's the update? Nearly 9pm here in Spain, and no news of it whatsoever. Maybe it's a Thursday release?
I just hope this isn't supposed to be a marketing ploy. Teaching people that the "Update" button doesn't actually trigger an update is not a good idea.
Same here. Looks interesting, but it's not for me (even though I play on an iPad). For one, I've never been one for tilt controls, so the steering wheel serves no purpose for my use. Also, I agree with RB that it looks like it would be more cumbersome than just holding the iPad by itself if I were using it in a comfortable sitting position, and the mounted setup looks awkward altogether. Honestly, I wouldn't even be interested in trying a free demo. ETA - another problem with the design is that it's for the 4th gen and earlier versions of the iPad. The bezel on the Air is much smaller, and the clasps would either cover up part of the screen, or the iPad wouldn't fit properly (tough to know without seeing it in practice).
Only a sec to reply. The configuration I want in A8 is precisely what I use in RidgeracerSS n I have no issues at all. RRss' entire gameplay is centered around boosted drifting. Mayb more so than A8. Nitro takes about a quarter sec to innitiate which I hit with my steering thumb with no issues. Anyway, I've spent very little time playing A8, even tho I keep it on my 32G 5S.
Hopefully they just had some miscommunication with Apple, and expected the update to be available in the app store by now. Usually when a company pushes new content that requires a version update, they've already gotten the go ahead from Apple saying that the update has cleared the review process and can be pushed into the app store whenever the company is ready to release. I'd say there's a good chance Gameloft thought it was ready to go but Apple is holding it up for one reason or another. Hopefully that's the case, because I agree it's not a good practice to start advertising something as available when it's not. Based on Gameloft's solid reputation for customer service, I don't suspect this was intentional.
From my (very extensive, unfortunately) experience with the app store review process, there are only two official options: 1) It's a timed release. If it were set to be released today, it would have gone live at 12 AM in each app store's time zone. This is what I initially expected to happen, because it would have explained the early tournament announcement (think Australia). But that's not it. 2) They release the update themselves — manually, by clicking a button. Once you do that, the update is usually visible in the app store after somewhere between 5 to 30 minutes. But if it's a manual process, there's no reason to release the tournament that early. So that can't be it either. Again, that's the only options there are — iTunes Connect is a simple beast, and there's little room for misunderstandings. But if they have extra release options Apple doesn't offer smaller companies like mine (which would be unusual for Apple), it's even weirder that they managed to screw this up. EDIT: Alight, alright, there's actually a third option: You submit the update and tell Apple to release it as soon as it has cleared the review process. I simply refuse to believe that Gameloft would do that, though, especially when there's a related content update in the mix. No developer in their right mind would bet on the review process being timely and rational.
Gotcha, thanks for clearing that up. I guess I didn't fully understand how the manual release worked (I've never dealt with Apple directly, so all my info is second hand). I was under the impression that companies could do a manual release at any point after the app had cleared the review process, but even with a manual release, Apple still has to do something on their end for it to show up in the app store. Now I'm really confused. I wonder what's holding it up.
Well, some interesting theories floating around I'll have to say. Unfortunately, it's really very simple. The tournament is pushed from Gameloft's own servers to device. No Apple or Apple approval process or so on and so forth. (Other than app, content and procedure approval at the approval process itself of course.) The tournament simply pushed too early from the server side. Nothing more, nothing less. Perhaps someone hit the wrong button, put in the wrong time or a incorrect local time for the push, clocks weren't synched, a server in the chain went down or simply a miscommunication. Who knows. But it is as simple as the server pushed the tourney too early. I suppose I should qualify that by saying its just my own opinion and not based on any direct information in this particular case but does have a basis in previous experience in other similar cases. Edit. Just in relation to timed release process mentioned earlier, there are options of a full international release based on Cupertino time or a staggered release as international time zones hit certain dates or just a button that releases everywhere right now or further to that an instantaneous release at approval stamp. And beyond that certain developers have their own internal procedures beyond approval. But in general, updates hit everywhere at the same time, as in not local times, as in 2 pm LA time equalling 9pm London time and not in staggered international time zone releases. Its safe to say the update is done. But it's also safe to say that's not necessarily the final step and oftentimes plans change or something gets caught. The initial schedule was the next week or two. Obviously it then got approved by Apple so it was moved up to before this week was over. Then it got moved up to today. As to what happened, I dunno, it could be any number of things either related to Apple, Gameloft, the servers for both, an internal matter, a marketing matter, or a hundred more reasons. But the day isn't over yet. Nor is the week. So I'm personally not worried. It'll be worth the wait either way. But, definitely in relation to the tournament that was pushed, it pushed too early. I've seen the same thing in that area in other products for the App Store three times already this month in avery small pool of apps. It's not a particularly big deal and is ultimately just a sync issue that will be sorted when it needs to be. And just in relation to RB below, I wouldn't necessarily call it amateurish at all. I've seen it more than once in RR3 for example. Sometimes servers just don't behave themselves .and have nothing to do with people. It is a pretty complex (to put it lightly) worldwide server system they have going on. I was at a server farm recently in London (not a Gameloft one) that was linked to one in Silicon Valley, that was linked to one in Dublin, that was linked to one in Signapore, that was linked to one in Belgium. And if the temperature rose a couple of degrees in the London server room, or something just as random, it could kill 20 million people's internet connection in mainland Europe. Which would be pretty annoying. An extreme example, yes (with a certain level of lets say artistic licence to accentuate the point) but its all just very complex at times. Oh and what's this steering wheel add on controller thing you are all talking about? I'm sure I read some stuff about a few in development by a few parties over the last few months but is this one a random research pm around to people or a developer related product? Or is it just spam? Or genuine product research? I haven't seen it myself so I don't know. On another random point, just to add to the rambling, its amusing myself greatly that its two updates (Dead Trigger 2 arena update and this) that I'm actually anticipating most on a Wednesday where I'd normally be clearing stuff off device to make room for new stuff....Most strange. Great to see that updates are coming in to their own and adding anticipated and exciting stuff. Bit disappointing that nothing new to launch has really captured the imagination yet this year for me personally.
Well, yeah, something does happen on their end after you release an update manually. I've always assumed that this was an automatic process, if only because it has always worked as expected for us so far. But since we've run out of likely explanations, that particular step might as well be the culprit. EDIT: Oops, didn't see Rip73's reply — if it's as simple as that, then it's interesting that they can't (or don't want to) disable the tournament again. Also, I find this the most devastating scenario of all the scenarios we've discussed, because it's such an amateur mistake. But I guess that's what huge corporations are like.
Ya I got it too, if it was free I would be in.... to help with just comfort...that is I could find a good position for the screen....But oh well.
I hope Gameloft release that Shelby SSC Tuatara Supercar in a month or two. Because... I'm dreaming with it since now! And if it costs 1 Million... I simply will pay!
