It is how you use your nitro and utilizing the jumps with spins to gain more nitro ( you need to figure out which ones though :D ).... Stay tight to the inside as much as you can and hit as many city havoc markers ( either light poles or all those yellow markers at the side of the pavement ect....) as possible to help maintain your nitro. That can be challenging.... There are other small hints but try those and see how it works for you.... I am not the best but I can tell that for me 1.37 - 1.36 something is possible but will require a perfect run for sure. One of the biggest secrets that I have found is you need to run that sucker back to back to back to get the rhythm and find all the little tricks. That car does not have the best top speed with out full nitro... Hint hint.... So keep that sucker there as much as you can :)

    Cheers

Just did a run to test the speed with the boosts and got a 1:39:708.
Missed a couple of perfect run nitros because I clipped a couple of barriers.
    Not too bad though..

But.... That wasn't the worst of it. The sync took ages to go through and then when I checked my position........... 2001. One place. I couldn't believe it. Sooooo close.

To make it worse, guess the time of position 2000.
    1:39:707.
Aw, man, .001 of a second. I too gutted to make a second run at it now even.
    :)

However, once I get those perfect run nitros, I shall be sorted. Hopefully. Tomorrow. The pain of that one hundredth of a second is still eating me away inside...:)
It would also appear I was very optimistic with my earlier estimates of time as it applied to me anyway.

Also, at least now you all know what the entry point for top 2000 is. Good luck with it.
And hey, here's hoping a few more hackers (if they are still there) get the chop in the meantime. That'd really help me out.:)

Edit. @Syu_z. What turbo said is useful and one strategy that I must try.
What seems to have helped me out is knockouts at the beginning. They have to be done from the side and not rear end ones.
And zero drifting in bends. The grip on the car is very good so just try and apex each bend and as close to the barrier as possible. Stay off the dirt. It has little effect but it does have a 1 or 2 mph fluctuation that could be the difference and only use nitro on the straights because otherwise will need a small drift in bends which damaged my times.
And obviously enough do not clip any wall or barrier, particularly in the tunnel/cave as the perfect nitro on exit of the cave is very handy.
I also knocked down all the beams on the last straight for that little bit of nitro boost they give because ideally you should have a perfect run nitro coming in there.
I also did no jumps or spins for this one at any of them, even the little mound of snow before the cave I avoided as it caused me to clip a wall each time and lose my perfect run nitro.
I did only three runs so bear that in mind as other strategies may be better.

Edit 2. 1:39:697 is the new 2000 threshold. I'm now 2012 with about 6 1:39:707's ahead of me, so I feel better now.:)
Lower half 1:39 should be what people need to aim for to get in the top 2000 although that will probably slip into the late 1:38's by the time its over.

Thanks man. Will try again tonight. One small question, there are two ramps near the end. Do you guys use it to flatspin or just a normal jump or avoid entirely?

I really like the idea of perfecting the time. The perfectionist in me hahaha. Averaged at 1:40-1:41 and at rank 2700 currently. Thanks rip for pointing out the entry point to rank 2000. I shall aim 1:39:500 for tonight. Time to grind some more credits.

Thanks rip and turbo for your suggestions. I tend to go to the dirt and ignoring the city havoc to help nitro so I guess that's where the difference comes from.

I personally avoid the ramps on this event.
I did try them once but that lead to a 1:40 or 1:41 something lap so a big loss of time.
Also, note my edit 2 above. The entry point is slipping lower each time, only by milliseconds but still worth noting.
Its stabilising around the early 1:39's at the moment but if there's a lot like me out there who are going to do a final push near the end, we can expect it to slip to the late 1:38's before the end.

Ha! and i did both jump with flat spins. I should try avoiding them and see how it goes.

edit: oh man, late 1:38.. *groans* so there is no way to choose iceland reverse in quick solo race i suppose? Throwing in 3000+ for each rental can get painful since i have not reached high MP lvl. I suppose I could continue the seasons with coin doubler haha.

    Well done! Keep on TBC'ing!

You mean the one over that rocky area and the one at the beginning of the home stretch? Double flat spin on both. That final straight is long, so if you don't have nitro there, you lose a lot of time.

Oh, and with regard to that remark I made yesterday:

I should have bet on it. It all balances out — Rip73 was slightly too optimistic, and I was slightly too pessimistic. :D

EDIT: I just read the details in Rip73's guide. I tend to disagree with him about two more things, in addition to those ramps:

Alternatively, do what I like to call a micro drift. Start drifting and immediately break the drift with nitro again. This allows you to make sharper turns, which shortens the distance you have to cover. And if you come into a turn with nitro, you don't have a choice anyway.

On the other hand, driving through the dirt sometimes allows you to make a straight line where you'd otherwise have to follow a double bend. Again, it's a distance vs. speed trade-off.

    Ahahahhaha!

And that's why you're the KING.

Give me some credit though, I was only 10 weeks behind your idealistic innovation.

    You're the man, RB!

    Welcome to TA!

    1. I love the Citroen for multiplayer. It's far and away the best car to enjoy the game and avoid the cheats with. But, you have to be careful. Upgrading too far will put you in a class above the Citroen's capabilities, and unfortunately, there's no going back if you "over"-upgrade.

Total capacity is a 1318 rating, but you need to max out in the 1213-1257 level. This is what I'm keeping mine at, I feel it's pretty close to perfect (though I still get whipped by the Running Birds of the A8 universe).

    2. Those are the characters that show when a) characters applicable aren't able to display due to language differentials, or b) hackers

    3. I'm at 1:45:461, which is 23,148th place (pathetic). I did one run, and I was a little inebriated. I'm gonna have to do another one when the deadline nears (I'll spend another 10k to get 30k back). I'm going to guess the top realistic time is around 1:36:00, give or take a second.

You type/speak better English than 90% of people whose primary language is English. You have nothing to worry about. Welcome to TA, hope to see you around more!

The only bad about this game is that it does not have a good apple tv mirroring mode.

Yeah, that's disappointing. It sucks throwing your iPad up on the big screen only to have it in 4:3 aspect ratio. It's awesome when you AirPlay from an iPhone5/5s though. Understandable, it's not Gameloft's fault, or responsibility. Best solution is to force 16:9 from your tv settings, if that's what you want. It'll be stretched a little, but it's better than bars on each side.

Yeah i did double flat spin on them. Unfortunately my time is still averaging at 1:40 so I guess my line is not tight enough. For the last ramp, do you land on the elevated area or the ground? What is your time, Runningbird? 1:37?

I think my playing style is similar to yours. The things you highllighted are the things I would usually do haha. Maybe I just need more familiarity with the map. Iceland reverse is hardly my favorite.

Okay so my place has risen by about 200 since 11pm last night, to 920 place, And my time is 1:38:601, I see no possible way to get even close to 1:30.

With full nitro at the start, knockdown multiple cars without getting them stuck in the front of your car and slowing you down. Go to the left side of tye cave with a spin jump over the bump in the road before the cave. As you come out of the cave drift through the turn and hit the cement blocks in the middle of the road. For the next couple turns do a quick drift around them and then boost out of it to speed up, all while trying to hit the yellow markers on the side of the road. After the first big turn try and do a double spin over the jump and then make a tight turn while drifting around the second big turn. At the end straight away. Get the blue nitro and double spin off the jump and land on the ground rather than the higher road. Then boost while hitting as many pillars as possible and hopefully getting a perfect run near the finish line. Its probably not the best as I am in 920 place but its all I've got. I hope it helps!

That's plenty of tips, almost like the map walkthrough! I did not think to spin over the small bump before the cave, it certainly would add to the nitro. Thank you very much for your tips.

To be honest, I myself also don't see any way to hit anything below 1:36 max. I am not the best but I am not newbie to racing either. So I am pretty sure your rank is much higher than what is displayed right now. :)

Elevated area. Quick nitro boost, jump back to the ground, perfect nitro — if you drive through every one of those pillars, the nitro will last all the way to the finish.

To land directly on the ground instead of that elevated area, you'd have to jump in an 45° (or more) angle compared to the road, and I'd probably crash into a wall right after landing if I tried that. (Maybeck M is less clumsy than I am, apparently. :D)

I also ignore the nitro containers near that ramp. They're positioned at a weird angle, and if you manage to spin twice, you don't need them anyway.

1:37:8something. Send me a Game Center friend request, and you can see for yourself. :)

Sent! I'll learn much from your ghost :p

Edit: 1:39:403. A full 1 second improvement, haha. But position wise it's still shaky since it's at 1830. Will continue to do runs until i touch 1:38.
Crazy that you can reach 1:37 though. Too bad I can't race your ghost for this cup.

    Edit 2: 39:375 @ pos 1581. Averaging at low 39 now.
Edit 3: 38:994. Finally. By the way, RB, I can't see your position in my Friends leaderboard. That's odd.

Maybe that's because I hadn't been active in Asphalt 8 in the meantime. I don't know if that actually makes a difference, but judging from previous friends list oddities that I've seen, it might. Either way, I'm sure I'll pop up in that list eventually.

By the way, with the latest round of cheater removals, I'm now at position 2xx. Yay! I haven't been this close to the top in a cup in a long time. And I'm guessing that I'm actually in the non-cheater top 100.

So are you. Parallel evolution FTW. :)

Probably so. Will be waiting for your time to show up haha. I am shaving the time milisecond by milisecond. Now at 38:8xx, at this point I don't know if I should continue or call it a day. I sure hope 1 day will not make me drop from pos 1000 to 2000+.

    Congrats, RB! It's a well-deserved spot. I still can't reach low 38 let alone 37 haha.

Acronyms are probably the coolest things ever. I stole it from Bachman Turner Overdrive and their song "Takin Care of Business." Good racing tune.

Thanks for playing and saying "Hi!" Keep on racing and good luck dude!

I'm trying to emphasize just how much we love you. To max does it in a completely cool kind of way. Also, way to use an awesome phrase

Congrats on the top positions fellas! That's pretty sick!
