    It is.
It is saved using you're gamecenter id (or your Facebook one if you use that option, I don't) for the profile and time stamp.
It only saves when you launch the app and not when you close it so bear that in mind.
Also, it is not cross platform.

There is a process I use to ensure both devices are up to date because it is an odd sorta save.
My iPad which has the most use and furthest progress so when I close it in that and I want to sync to the iPhone, what I do is open it on the iPhone, a dialog box will pop up after a second or two and will give me the option to use the cloud save or the device save.
I select the device save because the cloud save is the one from before my last play session. It loads up and then I close the app.
I go back to the iPad and open it on that. The same dialog comes up, cloud save or device save. I notice that the cloud save is the same save from the iPhone because when I selected device save on it, it loaded the device save up to the cloud.
So what I do then is select the device save from the iPad because that is the furthest along one. This loads up the save from the iPad to the cloud.
I then go back and open up the app in the iPhone, dialog box appears and now the cloud save is the one from the iPad so I selves that and now both devices are at the same point.

Now I'll grant you this is awkward sounding but it is the safest way to ensure they are both the same because of the way it saves. It's not a full sync when you close it or as you go along. It saves at the point when you launch the app first.

So essentially if you only have one device now and intend on deleting and transferring to another at a later date, ensure you follow the above steps before you delete. Be sure and open the app before you delete it so that it does a save before hand.
To know if it is saving, the + icon beside your currency amount (on the middle left ish) is replaced by a circulating icon (a loading icon basically) when you open the app and it is uploading.
If you have two devices at the moment, just follow the process I do and it'll keep them synched. Again, this is just because it loads when you start up the app only.

Oh, and you must be logged in to either the same gamecenter account on both devices or Facebook account on both devices and be on the same platform (eg. iOS).

For the iOS app, I have a way but it is fairly convoluted!

    - first press the quote button on the first comment you want to quote.
    - submit the comment as usual.
    - press the quite button on the second comment you want to quote.
    - select all the text in that comment.
    - copy it
    - discard this new comment
    - go back to your original comment and hit edit.
    - paste in the new quoted comment below/above/wherever.
    - repeat this for however many comments you want.

This is a bit long winded, but it's the only way I know of on the app. Hope it helps :)

I'm only starting Asphalt 8 now and I would like some tips.

How do you guys use drift in this game? The drift itself feels good, but I'm not sure it's really worth using since it slows down your car quite a bit. Is the trade off (turbo) worth it when there are so many other ways to get nitro?

Also, what controls do you use? I feel that the wheel is a tad unresponsive...

Any other tips on buying cars and upgrades?

    Wow, no easy question there.
I find tilt best but that's a personal preference. I recall some comments on the wheel and the general consensus seemed to be tilt is better. But obviously that's very much a personal preference.
On drift, I find it pretty easy because it's only a matter of tapping the brake while steering and then controlling the drift by continuing the steer in either direction. It only straightens when you straighten the steering or tap the brake again.
There is a speed loss but the boost when you come out if it more than makes up for it and try not to go into strong angled drifts because the higher the angle, the more speed you scrub off.
Drifting works particularly well on sharp corners where you drift in and nitro out from the apex point. It's also possible to drift slightly while travelling almost in a straight line once you're control if it builds up and it can build up a lot of nitro that will be very useful.
On nitro, be sure and aim for a perfect nitro. When you hit a nitro, the nitro indicator on the top of the screen gas a section that turns red. Hit nitro again when the indicator is in the red and you'll get a better boost.
On buying cars and upgrades, my personal choices are Audi S4, lotus Exige, Ferrari 458, Ferrari F12, Lamborghini Veneno.
But other good options are Sesto Elemento, Citreon Survolt (for multiplayer), Mclaren, Clio. You'll get a lot of different opinions on that one though.
On upgrades, handling is the only one that really matters. It just gives better overall control. The rest are obviously important but handling has the best impact. The other upgrades, up to level 2 or 3 will be more than enough for the campaign. For tournaments and multiplayer, you'll obviously need more because you'll be competing with those that have more upgrades.
For multiplayer, so far the Survolt seems to be the best option because it's acceleration helps you not to get knocked out at the start.
And do play multiplayer. There's a lot if boosts and upgrades to be won just for finishing in the top 3 in consecutive races. And if you win some coin doublers, save them for later seasons to maximise them.

I'm not sure if all that is very clear (or spaced properly even) so what I'd recommend is using the search tool to search this thread for posts by virtualboyfreak, habukak, running bird or myself.
The first 100 pages or so has some good tips by each of us and some good tips in replied for those starting out so the search should show the page number they are on and it'll help limit the unnecessary ones.
Sorry if that's a bit vague but there's just a huge amount if useful tips by those guys and loads more that it would take forever to retype them all here.

Are you sure, Rippy? I'd say it saves (to local and cloud) when you quit the app completely (even in the multitasking page; or after 10 min or so automatically when you don't remove it manually from the multitasking page). And it loads (asking if from local or cloud when there are different savings) when you launch the app.

Saving scores and upgrades makes only sense when you're done with playing/progressing.

Thanks Mess, I will try that when I'm not drunk and sleep deprived. Seems really confusing right now but maybe it will come into ficus tomorrow. I'm sticking with ficus.

Rip73, how do you have the energy for your crazy detailed and well thought out posts. Good jerb. I'm on vacation and have no wifi till tomorrow(hopefully). I'm sure I'm out of the top 499 by now. I was hoping to try again today but I'm afraid it's gonna be over before I get a chance. Did you move up/ break into 1:01 territory?

    I'm pretty sure.
It saves locally when you quit. That's automatic of course. And the cloud save won't override you're local save at any stage unless you select that option.
But it doesn't get a chance to upload to the cloud at the closing stage nor have I ever noticed it running any process while closed to multitasking bar or in the background and that's why it uploads when you start the app.
It obviously checks local save against cloud save and does other complicated stuff at start up that I won't get into at this point (mainly because I probably don't understand all of it and definitely couldn't explain all of it) but if the local save is further along than the cloud save it uploads. If the game has been opened on another device, the cloud save detects that and that's when the pop up appears. More or less, there are some variations on it.

I have done some comparison tests by hopping from one device to the other in sequence (on a lot of different apps that use a developers own save servers) and they all seem to be at the point when you launch an app. It's not specific to just this one and it's why when I always close a game, I tend to reopen quickly and close again to ensure cloud save is equal.

Of course there is variety in that because iCloud itself (ie Apples own servers and service) will save at multiple points while the app is open and will push a save while its in the closing phase or in standby, multiple times basically. Mainly because it's built in directly to the operating system itself. Gamecenter synched saves are another way that use achievements as save points, in a roundabout way, by linking achievements to xp or other game specific items or events.
And some developers use a similar system to Apple when using their own cloud service but not all do and this one didn't at the beginning at least. And it doesn't work in quite the same way as iCloud anyway because developers obviously wouldn't have the same depth of OS access as Apple uses for its iCloud service.
With the ongoing updates, they may have changed it to a continuous cloud update or upload at close but it wasn't that way in the beginning and I've continued with the habit I built up.
I have lost some data (not much, but enough) in other apps by not doing it that way so I just default to the cautious way.

Either way, in relation to the detail I gave earlier about how to sync and device switching, that whole process of opening on one device and then opening on the other to upload your most up to date save point, that definitely applies in this case so definitely do follow those steps if you want each device to be equal. That process apples to all of Gamelofts recent games with cloud so the same process for those with Gangstar Vegas and GT Racing 2.
(Edit, just noticed that post is at the top of this page, definitely going blind, but definitely follow those steps, they always work best in the case of Gameloft cloud saves.)

    @heringer, you're welcome, I hope it helps.

@scrotally, thanks, I had a lot of time on my hands yesterday and I kept thinking of other details to add just when I thought I'd finished typing. I'm ever so slightly OCD as well so couldn't really help it:)
By the way send me another gamecenter friend request when you get a chance. I did accept but I can't find you in my list now and the search doesn't give me a result. Cheers.

Yes! Finally, this works on my 5s after countless crashes on start up. Cloud save transferred. Lovely :)

What's the best way to farm for cash since the last upgrade? I used to run the elimination and get $700 just letting it run on its own. Now it only pays around $100. :(

Which elimination? Because that change can't possibly be correct.
I've seen a few posts from people saying similar and Gameloft have confirmed to me that none of the in game reward economy has been changed at any stage since it released first day.
The only thing that did change was the price of the Veneno but that happened very early on.
And just to check the rewards, I've run the majority of the races again since the last update and I'm 100% sure none of the rewards have changed. So I don't know where that 100 is coming from as I can't find one that rewards that for a win. The minimum for a win is 215 and that's the very first race in the game on a re run (ie after one has got all the medals and re races it, its much more when you run it first) and you will get bonuses on top of it.
The last race in series 8 gives 4250 for first place and then more for bonuses on top of it (and a lot more the first time with the medal bonuses).
That's the same as it always was and doesn't include the usual bonuses.

On the best race, one on one in the furthest season you're in is the quickest and most rewarding.
Earning win streaks in multiplayer and gaining the 24 hour credits booster is the best option and then running some of the later high end races. I earned 300,000 from the last credit booster I used and it required very little effort or time.

It would be the last few eliminations from season three and the first two from season four. The participation reward was between $400-$600 and now is just $119. Do I used to just let it run and come in last and get $500-$700 while I was doing other things but now that only brings about $120.

What do you expect for coming in last? That's a bit strange. Finishing last is bound to be the barest minimum.
I dunno, I mostly place in any race but Gameloft has confirmed that they have not changed the in game economy at any stage and they are quite adamant on that point so can't really say any more than that.

I'm sorry but I didn't mention that I am playing it on my android device. Not sure if the iOS and android versions are different and I know I should expect the low payouts for last place but it was a way to make money while still doing chores around the house. :)

    Ah, okay.
    Dunno about that one then.
I've played it briefly on android but I didn't take notice of the reward system.
I would imagine though that the reward systems are similar so I would still recommend the one on one races either way for grinding cash.
But I would aim to win. They are pretty short races when they are one on one and in the first half. I know its not the same as you're method but it is very effective.
The best way is still to try and win a 24 hour coin doubler in the multiplayer win streaks. I'm assuming that they are on android as well.
Use the coin doubler when you decide to go forward in the campaign and if possible, I strongly recommend use one for season 7 and 8 as it will substantially increase your earnings.
They are pretty easy (relatively so) to earn in multiplayer if you have a Citreon Survolt or a Nissan GTR. They are the two best multiplayer cars I've come across so far in relation to the other cars they get paired with. Two upgrades in each category for each has served me pretty well so far as I've earned 5 or 6 coin doubters along with 15 nitro boosters and 6 or 7 of those upgrade/mechanic boosters.

Actually, there was changes in reward for elimination race in single mode.
@jon427 For the iOS version I've played, I used to farm money just like the way you did. When I got season 8 unlocked, the class A elimination race gives 1400 credits when player finish at 8th pos. Farming on that season gave me 100,000 credits per hour. I bet that many user did this, so they dont have to pay for car packs.

Once the 8th Season is complete is that it as far single player goes, or will there be more content released, do you know?

At the moment that's as far as it goes in the single player.
The tournaments are the current way of adding content along with the new cars but as to whether another season or tracks will be added, I don't know. Gameloft are very secretive about stuff like that.
I do know there is a long term plan to support, update and add stuff to the game but what that includes, well, that would be difficult to say. (If I knew and told, I'm sure someone would have to kill me anyway:), I have my own fingers crossed though)

In relation to the rewards being mentioned, rewards are based on placing in top three in a race, ie racing.
In relation to participation bonus, I dunno, maybe they rebalanced the bonuses there, I can't say because when I race it , I race it to win.
To be fair, it is a racing game, the whole point is to race and place in the top three, I dunno why you'd expect anything for not even trying. It would be very unbalanced and take away any incentive to race at all if one was rewarded for doing nothing.

So when I mention rewards, I'm specifically talking about finishing in the top three. Those were definitely not changed.

For participation only, it's a long time since I finished outside of top three in campaign anyway so I haven't taken any notice of them for a long time but I don't see why one should be rewarded for last place in an elimination race either, that just unbalances things completely and throws the economy of the game out. And makes trying to win or place pointless.

There does need to be some form of incentive to try and win and obviously having a high participation bonus was removing that incentive for a lot of people by the looks of it so changing that would have been a logical step.

As to when or if or what races or how much that was changed, I dunno, its not something I ever really took notice of or heard recent comment on.
I personally think getting 100,000 in an hour for essentially letting the game run itself, finishing last and doing nothing in a racing game was a flaw and something that did need to be changed and was likely an unforeseen glitch that they rectified.

Edit. Nothing personal of course to the two posters. I'm sure if I was aware of that level of reward for letting the game run itself, I would have taken advantage of it myself but to be fair it sounds like it was somewhat unbalancing and a bit of a game breaker as it does remove an incentive to actually play it.

Loving this game. Much better than Slipstream, and I'm a Ridge Racer fan.
