Multiplayer is actually the best way to grind once you've leveled up a bit. And as far as I can tell, there are no cheats for the new multiplayer yet, so it's a lot of fun right now. Speaking of multiplayer, I was skeptical about the new boosts at first, because it seemed like you had to pay to cheat. Turns out, though, that you can easily earn the credits you need for the nitro and tuning boosts while using those boosts in multiplayer. All things considered, I'm glad we have those boosts now they'll come in handy when the infinite nitro cheaters are back.
@bokuwoof this game started very fun and positive, but now it leaves me with bad taste in my mouth. that being said, the game is fun alright, probably the only game in my ipad that i play, it's just so limiting for people who doesn't want to spend more $ into iap or too much time and mood grinding. Asphalt 8 or Real Racing 3? Or both?
I installed real racing 3, but i find it too serious and not fun. Its been calling me for weeks and giving me free credits or gold but i play for fun and ive got enough serious stuffs at work, i want fun, so no thank you. The only game that i play is asphalt, starting to enjoy multiplayer like running bird said i play more of it now, because its fun and no cheaters, despite so little money i receive... Come on, $1000 per win? I get $1500 for losing in career!
So essentially what people are saying here is that 99c is the very top end of what they are willing to pay for a game that gives them (and has given them judging by the number of stars and the series numbers being quoted) hours of fun? Hmmm. Interesting. I guess developers don't really deserve a reasonable return for almost 2 years of work and what is probably one of the best games available on iOS.
We are actively monitoring the multiplayer scene to do our best at making sure players have a fair and fun experience. Similar to before, if you see different types of suspected hacks, feel free to message me or post here so I can pass that information along. Glad to see that the measures we have taken are still holding up in the meantime though!
When do the earnings in multiplayer improve? I've played about 50 MP races and am currently level 10, but I still only get a measly 1,250 for a win. Based on the progression, I'm a long ways away from ever earning anything worthwhile in MP. That's the worst thing about this game, and my only real complaint. The car/upgrade prices are just completely ludicrous in comparison to what you can earn playing the game normally. It wasn't like that at all in A7.
I paid a $1 for this on release day, and feel completely ripped off. All I got was the best racer on IOS and countless hours of enjoyment. But now I feel that in order to keep playing forever, and to avoid any grinding, I need to spend more then a dollar! Shame on you Gameloft for being so damn reasonable!
I think it was more or less linear, but I don't remember the details. Maybe the earnings only increased every 5 or 10 levels, or maybe they increased with every level, and I just didn't always notice. Eventually, once you've reached level 85, you'll get 6,500 credits for a win. That's a lot of races, but if you enjoy multiplayer, that's not necessarily a bad thing.
Haha, that is a lot of races. I've been doing MP a lot today, and I'm almost to level 13. It's going to be awhile before I get up to your level. Thanks for the info. Back to the grind. I've also been running into a few players who can seemingly crash whenever they want and not have it effect them. They just get placed back on the track well ahead of where they crashed as if nothing happened. Not sure if it's a glitch or a hack, but it's pretty annoying. Their cars seem to flash rapidly when they're visible on my screen. Anybody else noticed anything like this?
Read this and lol'd. It's alright for everyone to have different opinions about this game. I do my best to convey community thoughts to the team so when they make decisions they are informed. We really feel the switch to F2P doesn't damage the gameplay and the game is in fact still balanced so that players don't have to use IAPs if they don't want to. I'll always be present in this thread and will keep an eye on the thoughts and concerns of all A8 players.
Gameloft_Ryan What about the "other cars"... What do you guys earn with so much mystery? Sorry... But Gameloft sometimes is a pain in the ass!
It's not the "pay more than $1" that matters. It's the scheme of paying more and more that gives me a chill. Today i pay $20 and then tomorrow i have to pay another $20 and then another day more $20, it's a scheme. Its their new business model. I get that. Hence, if youve been playing asphalts since series before you'll find asphalt 8 (with iap and its scheme) COULD cost considerably more. If youre new to asphalts, then i can understand your giving in to the scheme. This kind of scheme, I never said it's unreasonable, in fact it's pretty common nowadays, but it's just unlike their way of charging us money before this, and sadly it's not my cup of tea. In other words, i (again personally) feel i'd rather pay $9.99 or even $19.99 or $39.99 like console games up front and get fun all the way to the completion of the game than faced with situations midgame where i have to pay and pay and (again) pay to get forward in the game (without spending too much unnecessarily boring and repetitive time, quoting jake 7905, countless hours of, jake's fun, literally countless). However, i dont think $39.99 initial investment would be appropriate given the competition and common industry practices nowadays. How about creating two versions? A free versions may "politely" recommend iaps by making it harder to earn credits and a paid version gives more or double credits? Well im just a customer expressing my idea, cant say it'd matter much. Now that i only have 3 games left to enjoy the double credit boosts, that sounds like more grinding (with double credit boosts) or reset the game from scratch to me. Edit: or mp all my way to lv 85. Is lv 85 the highest level? I thought i saw a friend at 99??
Like what other cars are we adding? The reason I'm so vague is because I don't know what the development team has planned right now. Things also change between updates so it's better to just tease rather than promise something that might not happen! I/We aren't trying to be a pain, just showing that we are definitely invested in Asphalt 8 and providing content for it!
update to my rant grinder news: tournament gives you 3,500 credits per win (some are 1 lap game only) multiplayer is fun (but still measly $1000 per win for beginners) i need to raise around 1,000,000 credits to complete the game - purchase cars (not to mention another 500,000 for upgrades - favorite cars only. all cars? millionS!)
Ryan, here's some non-cheating related feedback for a change... Some people (e.g., on Gameloft's own forums) misunderstand the message that is displayed when you try to enter a cup event that hasn't started yet: You tap the event, and up comes an alert that tells you a certain car is required. And the logical reply to that is: "But I already own that car! Why doesn't it let me play?" (There was no such time-basedness in Asphalt 7's special events, which is one reason why people don't understand, I guess.) So I think it would help a lot if that alert mentioned that the event will start in x hours and y minutes. And if you want to be incredibly clever, maybe you could somehow indicate that yes, Asphalt 8 is aware that you already own that car. Totally unrelated: I got my "King of the Ring" badge yesterday. Woo! It's so great to have multiplayer back.
I pondered about and discussed this with some local friends here for a while, maybe the next misunderstanding: We don’t understand at all why Gameloft calls Asphalt 8: Airborne now "F2P". Nothing has changed marketing-wise with the recent update, other than it’s just free now forever (obviously) instead of $.99 (ninety-nine cents) before and that they added some consumable power-ups that nobody needs ever (I didn’t even consume those which they gifted in the update). Quote from the iTunes/iOS App Store: The infamious, totally misleading and never properly documented marketing denomination/term Free To Play—possibly invented a few years ago by some silly and extraordinarily stupid marketing gurus as always like those who invented IAPs and DLC and where even perfect games can’t exist without it obviously—always implemented for me that you can download, install and play a software (mostly video games) for free, but if you want to WIN (or to play more than a tutorial) you have to PAY with real money. And everybody wants to win or beat a game or a highscore. That makes the sense of gaming imho. All other things are entertainment. Free To Play = Pay To Win So F2P is pure marketing crap. A lie. A pitfall. Dupery. Swizzle. A confidence trick. A demo software. Not even a lite version. Crippleware. Sounds like you’re getting something for free but it’s just a PERFECT WASTE of precious life time, bandwidth and money. Simply annoying. But A8 isn’t a typical F2P/P2W game AT ALL! It’s free premium with completely optional IAPs (for impatient and really bad "players" who don’t get it that they should collect stars in the first place and not cars). At least I personally can confirm that I’ve already WON some (lots of) races without paying for additional fees. Please reconsider this foolish term for A8, Gameloft. "F2P" has a very bad reputation and it’s just not right for your flagship game. "Free To Play" has an even "cheaper" feeling (in a bad sense; or maybe better: "really expensive"?!) than simply "Free". Or some native English speakers correct me if I’m wrong. Or some marketing profs could tell about typical ("real") F2P games (I don’t own any of them because I HATE F2P games and I wouldn’t waste ONE second with them). Thanks in advance. Other than that: Thanks again for the great update especially for multiplayer races!!! Keep up the good work. Best game in town by far! Edit: What a drawback! First seen right now in a Asphalt series game: They added full screen ads! Only when you start the software obviously. That’s a bummer. There was some promo stuff for car brands even in A7 (like the Clio stuff now for a limited time) but I could always ignore it easily. Be warned, Gameloft: We saved the old *.ipa and still have A7 + A6 on all devices. Don’t think that now since you are giving away the game for free that you have the licence for terrorizing your early adopters and buyers. That is a really BAD TASTE. I’m pretty upset now. Please excuse my harsh words. And we are not sure if local multiplayer mode in A7 wasn't better than in A8. Still not decided. More details soon. Reconsider your cheapo marketing. The worst thing in A8. When you can’t accomplish it—who else should do it? With your next bad step iOS gaming could be almost dead for me. The next step for me could be that I delete all my postings in this thread (watch #3 carefully) and my blog posting about A8 and all my blog postings about Gameloft games. Don’t go too far please. I never thought that I could write something like that: Please add an IAP option for getting rid of those painful ads and the ads for consumables before each race. Quick! And don’t tear me down further. Non tira mi sù! Have a nice day (we are seeing our favorite game going to hell)! Edit II: Even worse. You get that fullscreen ad even when you pull the already started game out of the multitasking area… Thanks, Gameloft. You easily found the shortcut straight into my black list. Yours sincerely first fanatic (about Asphalt series). Edit III: Even more drama. I changed my rating for Asphalt 8: Airborne from highly recommended to recommended. (From five to three stars out of five.) Will rant in iOS App Store as well. Soon. Waiting for some response first.
While it's not my decision as to what goes in the App Store description, the use of Free-to-Play is an accurate description of what Asphalt 8 is. It is now a game that players can pick up for free and play without being forced into IAPs, they are there as options. I understand your thoughts on F2P but especially since you yourself mentioned, the F2P change didn't alter the game in anyway, it's still the same premium game. If you consider those things, the price reduction just opens the experience up to those who would only consider A8 if it was free. Also, at least for me as a native English speaker, free doesn't have a negative connotation. I look at other F2P games and realize that there are good and bad experiences but believe A8 is on the good end of that spectrum. I don't have any information on what's being done with the ads so I can't really comment on that at this time. It's fair that you change your rating on the game and hope that even with the one ad when loading the game, from start up or multitasking, that you can continue to enjoy the unchanged gameplay in Asphalt 8.
